I think you missed his point. You DONT have to be consistent under the current points system. Gordon would have 6 titles by now if they went under the old points system. So saying he's inconsistent and that he dropped the ball is wrong. Now all you have to do is stay in the top 12 which, seriously isn't too difficult most years for the top drivers (though every driver has a bad year at some point). Then just be good the last 10 races, it's not about finishing well consistently anymore.
