wowzers i just notice the 5400 series are like almost 10 years old!!!!! im remember i first rode 5404 by suprise one morning on the 21 to school and i was in the 7th grade, lol now im like a sophmore in college. time flies fast!!!!!
Exactly 2 more years and they will be, twelve, its prolly because septa kept the neo's for so long the new flyers really didn't get to rule the streets completly until this year 09, but some ppl would prolly b confused on why septa will b retiring them since they look and sound just like the rest of the new flyer fleet thats running now despite their age lol
The first generation hybrids has a lower rpm along with good diesel engine sound as heard than the second generation in which for most of the part, the hum is mostly heard.
What? All of Septa's remaining Neoplan An440's were retired when the trackless trolleys came in. And the hybrids will not last as long. As soon as their batteries start dying, Septa will probably replace them with something newer.
According New Flyer's website, Septa exercised its option for 20 more Second Generation 41 ft hybrid bus just like the 2008 models. It looks like Septa is having an all hybrid fleets after the last diesel bus was placed in 2005. Now I'm wondering if Septa is looking at Artic Hybrid from NABI or New Flyer to replace their last Neoplan Buses on Septa's roster.
I hope Septa gets New Flyer DE60LFR hybrids. But I also hope that doesn't happen for a long time. I hope the Neo artics stay around as long as their 40ft cousins, which is almost 20 years.
I know because I was mad when I found out that all Neoplans were retired back in June and I wanted to get on one again. But the Neo Artics should last up to 20 years. Do you think Septa will get any more old hybrids like the 5600H or 5800H? I still like these hybrids still.
No more of those will be bought. Septa has already started to receive hybrids in the 8100 series (like I rode), and the newest are in the 8200 series, which some are already in service in the suburbs.
Because of the hybrid design specifically for Septa who wants to include an A/C on the roof like all other buses on roster. That's how Septa standard buses is like when including the hybrids for their standard bus operation.
The only fun way to ride these buses is in the seats RIGHT by the steps. lol.

Aw dang! How long do you think the old hybrids should last for?

It is from 2004, so it should be around until at least 2016? As long as the batteries last that long.

The Neoplan Transliners lasted from 1988 and 30 of them still run today... You think the hybrids could last longer?
