I looove that he speaks english so well, I get so embarresed when Norwegians speak bad english, just cause it sounds so damn awful. Sondre Lerche is a living proof that even us Norwegians can speak english well.
What chord is he playing on the 'know' when he says 'all I know' it looks like a C but it doesn't sound like it and it's the only chord that he doesn't describe. it's at 3:58.
@RapidPixel The chord is an F#7 played 24X32X. That is low to high on the strings (EBGDAe) X=muted strings. He is playing the chord keeping the same shape as the C chord that he strummed right before it. All you have to do is keep your hand in the C chord shape and just drop your middle finger down one string to the G string, and slide chord up to the 2nd fret position. Use thumb on low E playing the '2' note. Mute the D and high e sting with your fingers in the chord shape.
@RLaidEPeas Thanks' a lot, but actually the note I was wondering about was the one right after that one. I think it's just an E bringing you right back to the beginning. He just holds the G string with two fingers making it look like a C on the video.
@MrBerenstain Em/G is definitely one of those tricky chords that you have to use in the right places for it to sound as dreamy as it does in Sondre's music. Also, he's playing a very nice guitar with new and freshly tuned strings, so that probably helps too.
He acctually show and tells how to play the song right instead of letting us try and figure it out, which noone would've probably figured out the right way to play it. Thank You Sondre!!!!
Hahaha, i love haw he realeases at the end that he actually spent a LOT of time doing the "how to" ... "you can cut it if you want" :D he's norwegian and he's happy :D i love him! :D
I don't know Sondre Lerche or this song but thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated this patiently detailed, instructional and highly entertaining lesson. I might have just become a fan, right out of the blue...
This is so awesome! I like how he kept forgetting the lyrics, it makes it so much more natural. Also, how he gave them permission to cut it but they didn't. lol
Wow! this is great! I searched around youtube ..nearly every live performance of this tune I could find, trying to figure out the chords , looking for a camera shot of his left hand at certain points in the song for certain chords. Now I find this video with Sondre himself thoughtfully explaining exactly what I'm looking for!! OUTSTANDING!! I was already really impressed with Sondre Lerche and this video proves that he is a mensch. Musical, charming, thoughtful and generous. Thanks!
I love how at 5:01 he gets really excited about the chord "and then you've got...this...i think this is a beautiful chord..." He's the kind of guy who makes you want to be creative with your music. I <3 Sondre
This guy is amazing. I just stumbled upon this video because I like the song. I'm so captivated by this lesson even though I know nothing about playing the guitar.
I feel like picking one up and learning all about properly applying A major sevens and playing E minors with a G in the bass that sound like a dream!!!
omg.. this song is seriousley one of the most amazing songs iv ever heard. like, all of it is perfect!!!! im learning guitar and i want this to be the first full song i can play. it seems pretty hard, but because it's so amazing, im gonna learn it. thanks for this AMAZING lesson!
I really don't get the chords, some of them I get, but.. And. since he makes up so many and combines them it's hard to find them any places and when the camera doesn't really show how he does them, it's really hard. Anybody who can help me ?
which chords are giving you trouble? he tends to use lots of strange chords compared to other popular musicians. but most of them seem pretty straight forward.
Herlig Sondre,, Du må komme til Bergen og spille konsert, men ikke 18 års grense for da kommer jeg meg ikke inn. Feita det nye albumet ditt forresten ;)
My favorite video on YouTube. I've been looking for videos of how to play your songs. PLEASE add My Hands Are Shaking and Modern Nature! Thank you Sondre! Look forward to seeing you play Boston again in the future!

@RapidPixel Yep, that's right, it is just a regular E chord on 'know'. This was a really cool video. Wish more artists would put stuff up like this.
