How is running outside a big no no...?

Fire Department, and usgs say that is when most people are hurt, or worst is when they run out. Because in order for it to be safe you have to clear at least 2 times the building structures height, and be away from cable lines. I also heard that the doorway isn't necessarily the safest spot, however I heard the interior wall is, and get under something and protect your head. I got this from my ex who is a Fire Captain, and from emailing the usgs.

Watch than217 video, and look for California Earthquake, when the big one high northern cali. You see how fast everything happens, and they say that is when people get hurt most is from running outside instead of finding something to protect themselves, It literally takes seconds for things to come crashing on you, and if you have everyone running outside the chances of you getting hurt are greater. You can also email usgs, they are great at assisting you with helpful hints.

I know it was like a big jolt, then little shaking and it was done. I just hope this doesn't lead to bigger ones. How prepared are you? Because quite frankly I'm not. Most of my neighbors ran outside on Sunday, and I hear that is a big no no.
