  • @genericperson1 it's left right LO right ..

  • im trying to decide between enlisting next year or doing nrotc Marine Option. Can anyone help me how they choose to enlist, over being an officer. Anyway tomorrow is the MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY!!! Oo-rah!

  • Fuzionrider,

Being a Marine is being a Marine. If you have the opportunity to be an officer - take it. If you leave the service (not the corps - you will never leave that) your education will be a plus in what ever you do.

CPL Evans Alpha Company 4th Tank Battalion 4th Marine Division , Fox Company 2nd Battalion, 23rd Regiment 4th Marine Division.

  • That was one of the proudest, and happiest days of my life. The motto run was plain badass, too.

  • i remeber marching in formation and it was family day and that was the first day we got our uniforms so we felt good lol, o yeah it was air force though lol

  • i love how boots always argue about which one is better San Diego or Parris Island.

  • i don't see why, Parris Island and San Diego are both fantastic places to become Marines. The training is the same at both places is it not? It's also not really going to matter in the fleet.

  • PI is better

  • I disagree. Ive met many-a-turd from Farris Island.

  • All Marine training should be done on Parris Island, the Real Deal!

  • maybe. idk. ive always wanted to experience boot at parris island after being in for a while. hmm maybe i should get a new identity and do that. lol. :P anyways S/F

  • I have an assignment for you, read the following book: Five Years in the French Foreign Legion.............then tell me what you think. You'll be glad you did!

  • Sorry pal, I went through bootcamp at San Diego and was a Drill Instructor at Parris Island and the Training schedule and SOP are all the same. Only difference is the geography. All Marines get exactly the same training. The rest is folklore

  • #1. As a Parris Island DI, I ahve 100% respect for you! Sir, PIDI's are more than awesome! I really respect you!

#2. I did "basic" in Parris Island and later visited MCRD San Diego and San Diego looks less strict. I hope you get the book, Five Years in the French Foreign Legion

  • Well friend as a man who experienced both all I can say is there really isn't any difference. The only difference is the geography but the air is still the same. Uniforms, traditions, classes, and all standard operational procedure is exactly the same. There are not two different books for each place.

    Semper Fi

  • I visited MCRD San Diego on family day, so perhaps the DI's were taking it easy on the recruits? Agree or disagree? I prefer to see the maximum amount of hardcore training, even if that means no family day where families SEE some of the training. Never let up until the moment they graduate, but I do believe writing letters & receiving them is very important, since no one is a robot.

  • Well, Sundays at both MCRD's are pretty laid back as far as no real training on those days. It is at the discretion of the DI's and since there are no classes or organized PT usaully after chow there is lots of COD and also studying your knowledge ,squaring away utilities, writing letters home or the DI will hold his own small classes(Pit). When did you go to bootcamp at PI? I was a DI there from 1983 to 1986 with 2nd Bn.

  • I was a PI in Feb. '83, but can't remember the Bn.-----------------it makes me mad that I can't travel back in time and do it all over again and that my memories are fading of those times, but I am happy that I was there...........now that was a true wake-up!, ha ha! One of my Sgts. was Diaz, he was about 5'4", do you remember him and Senir DI Staterwait (or sounds like that)???

  • In Feb 83' I was still in a Rifle Co India Co. 3/6 and got my orders to PI mid year. The DI's you mentioned might have been in 3rd Battalion. They sound familiar. I was in 2nd Bn.

  • Thanks for your comments. You have a very good memory! Are you still in the Marines(active)?

  • It is funny to read so many Marines/people who will argue to death that PI is harder then SD. I try to explain that both places do the EXACT SAME TRAINING. The USMC puts out a training schedule for recruits and both places must follow it. The same goes for each company or battalion. There is no harder battalion or company. EVERYONE must follow the exact same training plan. But it is fun to watch how people think one is harder then the other.

  • Agreed. Thats what I've been trying to say. Both recruit Depots are under the same SOP (Standard Operational Procedure) layed out at HQ Marine Corps. Locations are the only difference and I am afraid that with the current socialistas in power they could actually close one of the bases down or even disband the Marine Corps. God forbid!

  • disbanding the Marine Corps would be the stupidest thing anyone could do. it would be disrespectful to all of those who fought and are currently fighting and also to those who lost their lives as a Marine. i dont think it would happen though, we need the Marines! they are the most hardcore fighting force in the world!!!

  • I agree with you. Still, after WWII president Truman had planned to disband the Marine Corps but the war in Korea apparently put an end to that stupid idea.

  • Physical only one thing gets me is SD has the reaper witch sucked balls and the humps where harder and PI from witch i heard has no hills. other then that battalions and company's do have the same training yes but different ways of going about doing it. each company does there own shit and some are more brutal to me then others.. Mike company was laid back to me.. there where some companys like alpha in SD that where brutal it looked like lol.

  • @VirkDS ..It's all the same training no matter what battalion or company. A PT run of 2 miles is the same no matter if A co or H co does it. Sitting in the class room is the same no matter what does it. Drilling all day long is the same no matter who does it. A company or platoon can not train in their own style since they have to follow the exact same schedule all other compnaies follow.

  • @23PorkNBeans "other then that battalions and company's do have the same training yes but different ways of going about doing it" im pretty sure i wrote this... and no its not always the exact same.. they have different ways differnt sayings and its not always on "schedule" your rite 2 miles is 2 miles no matter ,drilling is drill,. but its just like a teacher and a class you might have the same class with the same schedule as someone else but differnt teachers its going to be a differnt exp.

  • This video clip really touches my heart. I was marching on that same spot with my platoon 31 yrs ago. The RTR building in the background exactly the same and just like when my big brother was there in 1966.Imagine, all these young men weren't even born yet and the tradition carries on 31 yrs later.
