It happened to Cassie Bernall (and Rachel *sorry forgot her last name*) at the Columbine Shootings..
2 boys asked her if she believed in God while pointing a gun to her head. She said yes, and they shot her. She immediately died.
They also asked Rachel, the same question, and the same way. She also said yes, and she got shot too, but she didn't die. Then the 2 boys asked her; "Do you still believe in God?" And again she said yes, and got shot again. Then she died.
Actually there were two girls who said yes to the question, Cassie and Rachel. Rachel didn't die from the first shot so they asked her again and got the answer of yes from her twice. This song is in reference to Columbine high school shooting.
There is a dispute about whether it was Cassie or Valeen that said yes to that question. Eye witnesses place that it was Valeen who said yes to the question.
ii love this song and the meaning behind it BUT we must not forget that 11 other ppl died that day (not counting the killers, of course) and they were not Christian (possibly) ... remember that MONSTERS see no color, no age, and no faith, etc. - they just see the victim before them ... there were no right or wrong answers that day, so please stop believing that there were.
@XxSLiNk3exX soo she pulled the trigger on herself? and y wood someone kill her if she sed yes?? just a random person ran up to her and killed her cuz she sed yes??
@linkinrockergurl17 no, there were two questions: Do you believe in god and do you want to die. One answer for both questions. Cassie said yes because she would rather die than go against her faith. At least, that's what i got from it. Hope I'm not wrong.
christians call other christians "sister" or "brother" though they are not related. It's in relation to all believers being children of God, despite biological bloodlines.
@Melaeka96 Correct.. we are descendants of Jesus... trough faith alone.. the idea that we are all family though Jesus comes from when he said.. who ever believes in me is my mother and my brother...
..took me a while to actually recognize it as "Cassie". Sounds a lot different from the other acoustic version and the actual recorded version. I have to say I like this one more though
That includes yourself, no? Many people aren't that brave, yes. I think that anyone who could say "yes" should be honoured with sticking by their beliefs.
i would say no because i don't believe in a god but if i did i'm sure that if a gun was pointed at me i'd still say no and by the way the thing theyre singing about didn't happen
I know very well that it did not happen. I am just saying anyone who truely has the guts to say "yes" in that situation should be honoured. Human hearts are fickle things.
it's easy to say that now in a safe house but if you had a gun to your head your answer might change. anyway since this never actually happened and i'm tired of talking about it just listen to the song and enjoy it
There's no matter if that fact was happened, what counts is the meaning of this song and generally if it wasn't cassie, surely there was someone else. There are so many people who suffered because they believed in God...The song is awesome and flyleaf have taught me so much about life!

Val Schnurr was one of the people asked that question in the library that day. She was shot before it happened, answered "Yes" and explained to Dylan why. Dylan, luckily for her, got distracted and she managed to crawk back to, for lack of a better word: shelter; a 4 foot by 6 foot wooden table. She confirmed this.
Actually, the girl who was asked if she believed in the God was in the library -- not far from Cassie. She was confronted, shot and as she tried crawling to safety, she screamed "Oh my god! Oh my god! Don't let me die, don't let me die!". Dylan turned back her way and fired again. He was, fortunately for her, distracted by something and she crawled away, to, for lack of a better word, 'shelter': a 4x6 wooden table.

do you know that a girl named cassie acutaly died the same way this song goes. the killer pointed a gun to her and asked if she belived in god she said yes they pulled the triger. every year on april 20th cassies mother visits her grave
@tubbytwin1 i didn't say it was the only day i just said every year on that day her mother goes. the story i read about it the end only said she goes on that day but it doesn't mean that i think she only goes on april 20th. i'm sorry if i made it seem like thats the only day. i don't want to be one of thoes people who starts fights over comments
@Theevilestangel97 That is true because it talks about the Columbine HighSchool shooting and it talks about a girl named Racel Scott and it doesnt talk about Cassie Burnall but April 20th was the day of the Columbine shooting and the shooters names were Eric and Dylan they had been students there but killed themselves after it all they didn't even wait for the cops to find them :O
@tayrex77 even if she said no they would have killed her because the two shooters (eric and dylan) their goal was to kill as many people in the high school as possible, as said so in their journals
@DevilishGermanGirl Actually their goal was to kill the people who had tormented/made fun of them for the music they liked, THEIR religious views and so on...it was just unfortunate that it was such a large amount of people who did it. There were several students who were nice to them in school that Dylan and Eric told to leave when they seen them, and they even told some not to come to school that day.
@tayrex77 Kinda doubt she would rather die than say she didnt believe in god, ppl taking in way too srs, its a sad story really no doubt, but she didnt sacrifice herself for her believes i rly dont think, but thats just me
Honey, they interviewed a girl who was hidding under the same table as Cassie and she told them, along with the others who were near by, that that is what happened. The reason Cassie's mom isn't getting shit is because she lost her child and the country had already made Cassie out to be a matyr {Sp}.
I love this version! The lyrics are great. Especially the part where she says "Don't be shocked that people die. Be surprised you're still alive." Thanks for posting this! :)
