you guys r freakin idiots. of course this is a c major pentatonic scale. hes just showing the pattern on the relative minor of c major. i do agree tho that this video sucks ass
@mpm111144 it's part of the c major pentatonic scale, if you listen to him in the beginning, c major pentatonic is ALSO A minor pentatonic, he played the c major scale in the position that mimics A minor pentatonic
Why are you calling i'm a moron?? This is the major pentatonic of C... You are lower than a beginner =D Hint: built this scale along the arm and you will get What you want in the 8º space!!

@316katings By saying "You are lower than a beginner" does that mean you think I'm really, very short? :) AND....I am "lower" than a beginner. I'm 66 years old, started playing guitar around...let's see...before Eisenhower was President, and Always willing to learn, and become even better. So, yes, I am a beginner. Everyday. Thanks for the compliment. :D)
@mpm111144 Well your half right since he started on the A note it is A minor if he had started on on the C it could of been called C major since both scales have the same notes. But on a side note, I'm with you expertvillage my ass:)
if you are a beginner, I would suggest not learning from expertvillage, as they are crap. learn from rockongoodpeople, martyfs74, or guitarjamzdotcom.

ok maybe somebody can help me out i'm self taught i notice i use this scale a lot but in different places depending on what the first chord is of a song is this what it means to place in the key of something in a scale..any advice would be great..
well if the song's key is G minor (usually the song starts with the key note/chord), then you would play the minor pentatonic scale in G. so yes, that is playing it in the key of a scale.
another perspective on his answer is that lets say your playing
C Em G youd play this c major scale. But if the chorus was lets say Am G F those are in that scale too, but its gonna give you the minor pentatonic sound now that ur stopping on A as the root.
To go even further lets say there was a third part in the song Dm G C. Thats when a mode of the c major scale kicks in. In this case you could play d minor scale over it, but since youve been using the cmajor scale and theres no A# in the chords c major will work over this progression if you change the root to D
So basically what im trying to get across to some of the beginners is that every major scale is also a natural minor scale if you change the root to the 6th note of your scale. But remember the pentatonic is cutting two notes out that you still have to count to figure this out for your self. Hope that helps enlighten you a bit.

a pentatonic scale is always in minor so how can it be a a c major pentatonic
Chargeglass 2 years ago
@Chargeglass a pentatonic scale is NOT always in minor. the minor pent. scale goes 1, m3, 4, 5, and 7. a major goes 1, raised 2, major 3, 5, 6.
however, the c major pentatonic is the same notes ads the a minor pent. if you prefer to think of it that way.
ISS5731 2 years ago
a cmajor pent is like a aminor pent with the c as the root instead
