The problem is that as long as the meat is wanted this will never stop. We need to fight for these horses to have better lives and treatement! I just rescued a pony from slaughter and she sure knows that we saved her life! We can do everything we can to help but we won't stop it. Lets fight for these horses to have a better life before they go!

This happened once where I lived. I pulled several horses out. I held horses up, I carried dead foals out. I remember my boyfriend telling me it was dangerous to hold them up, and I told him if he wasn't going to help me, he needs to get away from me. Seeing them die, and seeing them crush eachother, seeing them suffer, I didn't care how bad I suffered for them. They had to be saved.

@RachyRoo10 You are right at your first sentence. But no animal nor horse needs to be put down because of their behavior. They can be tamed, they need to find the love inside of them. Horses are special, but some people just can't find that they are special. (Not being rude if oyu think I am) They are magical, special, and many more names for these horses. If you can or anybody can believe that you can find some place in your heart to be with that horse, they will love you, with no bad behavior
here in Belgium we still have horse slaughterhouses but it is gentile. and don't be against horse slaughtering if it's done in a gentile way. I also think it's to bad for that horse but still. I've been to country's where it's illigal to do it and believe me it's better for the horses that it isn't. there horses are put in back of trailers sick and skinny because they have nothing to do with the horse. some poor people let them die of hungerbecause they can't pay to let him down it isn't all bad
the real guilty ones here are ofc the former owners of these horses, who just discarded these horses coz they werent good enough for them anymore, or bought younger horses to replace them. Instead of looking for a owner who doesn't care about riding but just wants to give a horse a good old day, it was easier for them to sell the horses to a company who's gonna slaughter these horses
There is a horse at my stable named Gringo. I knew that this existed... I never knew it was this inhumane and cruel, however.... Gringo was saved at a slaughter auction. I can't imagine that this would have been his fate, and he wouldn't have been so lucky.

This makes me sick. The way these horses were just discarded like they were unloved an unwanted is beyond me. I think that the only way that this will end is if the auctions and sales of these horses are monitored more closely. This is UNACCEPTABLE. NO HORSE DESERVES TO BE TREATED THIS WAY!!!
We need to monitor the Auctions and sales of these horses more closely. These horses ended up like this because people got desperate, had no use for these horses any and they wanted to make a quick buck. This is unacceptable and we need to do something about it in this country.

I think that god does care about animals. How we treat animals as people is definitely a test of our worthiness. More people need to do what is right rather than what is easy. This accident was probably the best thing that could have happened to these 41 animals.

This is a heart warming story, amazing people like yourselfs could come to these horses rescue and save them, without you they wouldn't be alive, I would rather be flipped over in a truck then tortured by the scum bags at the slaughter house.... God bless everyone who was there that day and helped I have 2 horses of my own and I can at least grantee they will never end up there, lets just hope people start thinking before they sell to just anyone.

But you know what REALLY needs to be done is.....backyard horse owners need to stop breeding their horses! The population is way too high. If the public was more educated about horses, and what it takes to own, handle, and train them, then maybe we could start making a difference! Instead of just breeding a horse because you want a cute foal to train, go out and rescue a horse! If you want a foal there are TONS of PMU foals that need rescuing! This is what we need to work on in the world!
Horse slaughter was horrible. This incident is terrible. But ending it destroyed the horse industry. People can't afford to have horses put down, and now since its ended many horses are being neglected, abandon, and starved. And the thing is, now they are STILL being slaughtered. They are being shipped to Mexico where methods are 10 times more inhumane than they were in America. We should have tried to make slaughter more humane, with better shipping methods and handling at the plants.
whoever was responsible for this should have been prosecuted. 41 horses in a semi ?! Maybe the companion horses were stolen. There's one video here, people in Florida were going onto private property and just taking people's horses/pets and then slaughtering them not too far fm the property.

Having never seen this video before today, it was hard for me to watch. My daughter and I adopted Stan, the horse shown at 5:19 in the red, white and blue halter. Knowing what he went through and seeing how bad he looked then is tough. The miracle is that you'd never know it seeing him now float across the pasture, play in the snow, and boss our other horses around.
personally i think we shouldnt kill horses at all unless they are suffering.and why should we let other people eat our horses many people would do so much for a horse or pony and yet so many people send them to slaughter because of verious reasons. i think charites should help abit more instead of worring about how much room they have. Oct 18th, 2010, there was an accident, involving a car and double-deck trailer, filled with horses for slaughter. 6 out of 24 died. This happened in Ontario, Qc, lately. This is illegal, to carry Horses in.
While I can see why some people are pro-slaughter, due to the overwhelming number of unwanted horses, the poor economy, and backyard breeders who don't have any thought for the quality and health of their animals, I believe that this is atrocious. If there must be slaughter, don't torture the horses on the way to slaughter. I can't say that I'm for slaughter, but I'm also against cruelty towards unwanted horses, so what is to be done?
This video proves that horses are so much better then any human. What person could ever still love, trust & forgive such cruelty? Horse slaughter & transport needs to be stopped all over the world. Anyone who takes part in any stage of this deserves to die a VERY slow VERY painful & VERY lonely death! I organized a protest that took place OCT 4th 2010 outside the Bouvry slaughter plant in Fort MacLeod AB & success or not, I will NEVER stop fighting to end this & all horse abuse. Bless these ppl!

I am totally against treating animals inhumanely...this includes using them for rodeos, whipping them around a race track, soring their hooves to make them life their feet higher, abandoning them to starve in fields, etc. If the horses were trucked with proper horse trailers, fed, watered and not beat about because the horse handlers don't care what shape they are in as the slaughterhouse doesn't reject badly bruised , cut animals, and the horses were killed very humanely, I could see it.
Many race horses produce foals which are not considered good enough to race so they go to the slaughterhouse. Race horses which have been famous have also gone to a slaughterhouse, Ferdinand, to name one.
Belgium mares are kept pregnant so that the drug Premarin can be made from their urine. Their foals go to the slaughterhouse., so it isn't only companion horses. You cannot legally bury your horse anymore and no one will come and get them. So what do you do when you can't afford them any more?

It's sick that we take our companion animals we don't want anymore and sell their meat to other countries. Might as well kill your dog when you realize it's too rowdy. Same thing. I'm glad this is being fixed now though. Just got to keep the low-lifes from taking them to Mexico and selling the meat... :(
My grandpa is going to take me mare to the sell barn if i cant sell her by this weekend and i know whta those people do to those horses. And with my luck I know where Dalila will end up. And i hate to think of it.

I think it is nothing about eating horses. You know, thekinastetic, if you eat cows or pigs it is just the same. If someone doesn´t like these picts u should think bout your whole way of eating. If u want to eat meat u have to watch this and be aware that your "meat" made the same journey. Maybe not if it is from a very local farmer, but I guess this is just a small percentage who is doin this.

It's sad but cows are cute, chickens are cute, and pigs are cute as well as deer, fish and other animals who are slaughtered and eaten. Why is it better to eat them than to eat a horse? All killing and eating of any animal is cruel.

ALSO these slaughterhouses wouldnt exist if not for the willingness of Americans to discard these noble creatures in such a horrifying manner. Its sad to say but those horses that died in the trailer accident are probably luckier than the ones that make it all the way to the slaughter house. I hate how people treat any animal before slaughter. Hunting wild animals with a slap chop would be more humane than what they do there.
my sister used to ride horses and one time when she was heading back to college from the summer a trailer flipped on its side and she was like "Holy crap if there are any dead horses that come out of there im going to flip out!!!!" but thankfully there were none :D

Accidents happen but what are the regulations for transporting horses in the US? Seeing the inside of that truck it looks like the laws need to be reviewed and conditions made considerably better! Even if they are destined for slaughter they should be humanely treated until dead. Good on those that helped with the rescue it must have been very distressing!

yeah but you know what is frustrating, no one would have known or cared if the truck didnt crash. I did a huge research paper on horseslaghter, its an everyday occurance to perfectly good horses who are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even pregnant ones are not safe. I have found both loving and kind, if you ban horse killing why are cows and pigs not as important, I really don't understand. I love horses! I guess it was better for them to get in an accident the all die! I am very upset! people who do this have a mental siickness! How would they fell if thay had to be slaghtered and not be able to stop it!

The video made me cry, I can understand that people want to stop horse slaughter BUT now that it is banned in the USA the poor horses have an even longer journey to an even more horrendous death in Mexico. i was looking for a perificed horse i did find her we when to look at a horse she wasent wat i wont i thot but i bought her because they were going to send this horse to the slaughter house when that horse got home you could have sat a baby on that horse and she was so sweet and kind judt to think they would do that to her it made me cry and it terned out she was ever thing in a horse i wanted

I don't eat meat, and I haven't for years. I'm as healthy as can be, and even more so without those fats from the meat. All it takes is eating plenty of nuts and soy to get your protein. The real problem is that people don't WANT to give up meat because it 'tastes good'.
@Spork09 you are right. We were made as omnivores, but there is a difference between a pray animal and a compainion animal. Would you eat dog or cat meet if it was served to you when you went out?

The problem is that as long as the meat is wanted this will never stop. We need to fight for these horses to have better lives and treatement! I just rescued a pony from slaughter and she sure knows that we saved her life! We can do everything we can to help but we won't stop it. Lets fight for these horses to have a better life before they go!

This happened once where I lived. I pulled several horses out. I held horses up, I carried dead foals out. I remember my boyfriend telling me it was dangerous to hold them up, and I told him if he wasn't going to help me, he needs to get away from me. Seeing them die, and seeing them crush eachother, seeing them suffer, I didn't care how bad I suffered for them. They had to be saved.

@RachyRoo10 You are right at your first sentence. But no animal nor horse needs to be put down because of their behavior. They can be tamed, they need to find the love inside of them. Horses are special, but some people just can't find that they are special. (Not being rude if oyu think I am) They are magical, special, and many more names for these horses. If you can or anybody can believe that you can find some place in your heart to be with that horse, they will love you, with no bad behavior

here in Belgium we still have horse slaughterhouses but it is gentile. and don't be against horse slaughtering if it's done in a gentile way. I also think it's to bad for that horse but still. I've been to country's where it's illigal to do it and believe me it's better for the horses that it isn't. there horses are put in back of trailers sick and skinny because they have nothing to do with the horse. some poor people let them die of hungerbecause they can't pay to let him down it isn't all bad

the real guilty ones here are ofc the former owners of these horses, who just discarded these horses coz they werent good enough for them anymore, or bought younger horses to replace them. Instead of looking for a owner who doesn't care about riding but just wants to give a horse a good old day, it was easier for them to sell the horses to a company who's gonna slaughter these horses

There is a horse at my stable named Gringo. I knew that this existed... I never knew it was this inhumane and cruel, however.... Gringo was saved at a slaughter auction. I can't imagine that this would have been his fate, and he wouldn't have been so lucky.

This makes me sick. The way these horses were just discarded like they were unloved an unwanted is beyond me. I think that the only way that this will end is if the auctions and sales of these horses are monitored more closely. This is UNACCEPTABLE. NO HORSE DESERVES TO BE TREATED THIS WAY!!!

I think that god does care about animals. How we treat animals as people is definitely a test of our worthiness. More people need to do what is right rather than what is easy. This accident was probably the best thing that could have happened to these 41 animals.

This is a heart warming story, amazing people like yourselfs could come to these horses rescue and save them, without you they wouldn't be alive, I would rather be flipped over in a truck then tortured by the scum bags at the slaughter house.... God bless everyone who was there that day and helped I have 2 horses of my own and I can at least grantee they will never end up there, lets just hope people start thinking before they sell to just anyone.

Some people are hypocrites, you can't eat a pig, chicken, cow or sheep then say its wrong to eat a horse, to stop animal cruelty we must evolve and learn to not eat something that was once breathing, for me the idea of eating a animal that had a heart, a brain and was breathing is alien, i just can't understand how you could eat something that was once alive...

But you know what REALLY needs to be done is.....backyard horse owners need to stop breeding their horses! The population is way too high. If the public was more educated about horses, and what it takes to own, handle, and train them, then maybe we could start making a difference! Instead of just breeding a horse because you want a cute foal to train, go out and rescue a horse! If you want a foal there are TONS of PMU foals that need rescuing! This is what we need to work on in the world!

Horse slaughter was horrible. This incident is terrible. But ending it destroyed the horse industry. People can't afford to have horses put down, and now since its ended many horses are being neglected, abandon, and starved. And the thing is, now they are STILL being slaughtered. They are being shipped to Mexico where methods are 10 times more inhumane than they were in America. We should have tried to make slaughter more humane, with better shipping methods and handling at the plants.

whoever was responsible for this should have been prosecuted. 41 horses in a semi ?! Maybe the companion horses were stolen. There's one video here, people in Florida were going onto private property and just taking people's horses/pets and then slaughtering them not too far fm the property.

westerners, and the rest of the world. please relise that the reason we dont eat horse and dog is because we regard them highly. they have helped humans shape our western world. helping us win wars and farm.
it is the same way a hindu will not eat a scared cow, we regard the horses as almost sacred in a sense. we eat beef but wonder why hindus dont eat such a tatsy meat. maybe the rest of the world just enjoys the tasty horse, and cant see why we wont eat it. have an opion, but be open minded

Most of these horses probably had a good life - until people sold them to the wrong people - aka auction houses, who then sold them to slaughter houses :'( and they had a horrific death.
And atleast with cattle that go to slaughter, there kept in good conditions, treated RIGHT and killed humanley and quickly!

Having never seen this video before today, it was hard for me to watch. My daughter and I adopted Stan, the horse shown at 5:19 in the red, white and blue halter. Knowing what he went through and seeing how bad he looked then is tough. The miracle is that you'd never know it seeing him now float across the pasture, play in the snow, and boss our other horses around.

While I can see why some people are pro-slaughter, due to the overwhelming number of unwanted horses, the poor economy, and backyard breeders who don't have any thought for the quality and health of their animals, I believe that this is atrocious. If there must be slaughter, don't torture the horses on the way to slaughter. I can't say that I'm for slaughter, but I'm also against cruelty towards unwanted horses, so what is to be done?

This video proves that horses are so much better then any human. What person could ever still love, trust & forgive such cruelty? Horse slaughter & transport needs to be stopped all over the world. Anyone who takes part in any stage of this deserves to die a VERY slow VERY painful & VERY lonely death! I organized a protest that took place OCT 4th 2010 outside the Bouvry slaughter plant in Fort MacLeod AB & success or not, I will NEVER stop fighting to end this & all horse abuse. Bless these ppl!

I am totally against treating animals inhumanely...this includes using them for rodeos, whipping them around a race track, soring their hooves to make them life their feet higher, abandoning them to starve in fields, etc. If the horses were trucked with proper horse trailers, fed, watered and not beat about because the horse handlers don't care what shape they are in as the slaughterhouse doesn't reject badly bruised , cut animals, and the horses were killed very humanely, I could see it.

Many race horses produce foals which are not considered good enough to race so they go to the slaughterhouse. Race horses which have been famous have also gone to a slaughterhouse, Ferdinand, to name one.
Belgium mares are kept pregnant so that the drug Premarin can be made from their urine. Their foals go to the slaughterhouse., so it isn't only companion horses. You cannot legally bury your horse anymore and no one will come and get them. So what do you do when you can't afford them any more?

It's sick that we take our companion animals we don't want anymore and sell their meat to other countries. Might as well kill your dog when you realize it's too rowdy. Same thing. This is horrible. Good that some of them could be helped. It is just sad how humans treat animals.
I think it is nothing about eating horses. You know, thekinastetic, if you eat cows or pigs it is just the same. If someone doesn´t like these picts u should think bout your whole way of eating. If u want to eat meat u have to watch this and be aware that your "meat" made the same journey. Maybe not if it is from a very local farmer, but I guess this is just a small percentage who is doin this.

This is the horrible truth about how our horses die in OUR OWN COUNTRY!! THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! Absolutely disgusting, horrible! @makersmrk While I agree that we shouldnt let it happen on our soil, that will not stop the problem. When they cant find a slaughterhouse nearby, they ship them to Mexico. ALSO these slaughterhouses wouldnt exist if not for the willingness of Americans to discard these noble creatures in such a horrifying manner. The solution lies in fixing the problem, and the problem starts with us.

I don't own any horses, but whenever I get the chance to, I'll be looking for a good rescue place. I mean.. These are our loving animals, they didn't do a thing to us, all they wanted to do was be loved, and this is what we're doing to most of them.. If there's something wrong with the horse, have it put down by a vet, the humane way. God Bless these people who are helping these gorgeous animals in need. Its sad to say but those horses that died in the trailer accident are probably luckier than the ones that make it all the way to the slaughter house. I hate how people treat any animal before slaughter. Hunting wild animals with a slap chop would be more humane than what they do there.

my sister used to ride horses and one time when she was heading back to college from the summer a trailer flipped on its side and she was like "Holy crap if there are any dead horses that come out of there im going to flip out!!!!" but thankfully there were none :D

Accidents happen but what are the regulations for transporting horses in the US? Seeing the inside of that truck it looks like the laws need to be reviewed and conditions made considerably better! Even if they are destined for slaughter they should be humanely treated until dead. Good on those that helped with the rescue it must have been very distressing!

yeah but you know what is frustrating, no one would have known or cared if the truck didnt crash. I did a huge research paper on horseslaghter, its an everyday occurance to perfectly good horses who are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even pregnant ones are not safe. People are very ignornant to these things because they choose not to see. ADOPT DONT BREED OR BUY PEDIGREES!

I have a pet cow called Nina and would like to add I ride her, shes loving and kind. We never broke her in just walk up and jump on, I also have a horse and love him very much too. I have found both loving and kind, if you ban horse killing why are cows and pigs not as important, I really don't understand. I think they should be working towards making slaughter houses as quick and painless as possible for all animals.

this made me cry, i am so glad that there are people out here like this :) i try to do everything, but would be so much easier if no one killed these companions to us. we in Canada have to pay 20-30 thousand for a good horse, and people just eat them.....

i'm against hunting of any animal. i would be a vegetarian but i love meat too much. i feel ashamed every time i look at a hamburger :(

I love horses! I guess it was better for them to get in an accident the all die! I am very upset! people who do this have a mental siickness! How would they fell if thay had to be slaghtered and not be able to stop it!

The video made me cry, I can understand that people want to stop horse slaughter BUT now that it is banned in the USA the poor horses have an even longer journey to an even more horrendous death in Mexico. Breeders need to stop fueling this trade, sadly horse slaughter will always happen, it needs to be as humane and stress free as possible - WITHOUT THESE LONG HORRENDOUS JOURNEYS.

i was looking for a perificed horse i did find her we when to look at a horse she wasent wat i wont i thot but i bought her because they were going to send this horse to the slaughter house when that horse got home you could have sat a baby on that horse and she was so sweet and kind judt to think they would do that to her it made me cry and it terned out she was ever thing in a horse i wanted

These people all act like they care so much and it seems like they do! But why only horses? Just because they are cute?? I dont eat ANY animals, all animals have feelings and can give affection. If you love animals this much then prove it by not eating any animals...

I don't eat meat, and I haven't for years. I'm as healthy as can be, and even more so without those fats from the meat. All it takes is eating plenty of nuts and soy to get your protein. The real problem is that people don't WANT to give up meat because it 'tastes good'.

@Spork09 you are right. We were made as omnivores, but there is a difference between a pray animal and a compainion animal. Would you eat dog or cat meet if it was served to you when you went out?
