I started dating a guy with a Mac, and I thought he was a dork for it- that was, until I used it... and BOOM, my life became simpler. Everything... just worked. Nothing was slow, I could have multiple things open at once and everyday things such as file sharing, internet and word processing was just awesome.

I am a 100% satisfied customer with my Mac. I was a music major for five years and our department had nothing but Macs. I hated them. Absolutely hated them. Why? Because I was ignorant and did not want to try and use them. I have had my MacBook for over a year now and my life has been so simple since! It doesn't take forever for my computer to boot up, it rarely freezes and I am able to do everything on this computer that I ever intended on doing. In fact, just bought an iMac about a month ago, which is awesome as well. i would like to say that for 1600 you can get a macbook pro with 4 gigs of ddr3, a 2.53ghz prcessor and a 250 gig hard drive. even though the it has 250 less hard drive space, the macbook makes up for it by having bluetooth, a solid aluminum body, a multi_touch trackpad (that actually works unlike the ones in some windows computers) and all of the macs come with ilife. so the mac is deff the better buy

Yes, they're all portable. If you got a laptop that isn't portable, you bought a desktop. If you pay anything for a Windows machine you're getting ripped off. Sure, when it comes to price the PC gets the edge. The dollar menu at Wendys cheaper than going to Logans, but it certainly isn't better. The PC Vs Mac argument is basically Cost Vs Quality. People can pick crap if they want, but i'll pick a quality computer with a nice design and amazing software over cheap EVERY single time.
Not all laptops are meant to be portable in the fact that you can take them anywhere with you. Most gaming laptops are meant for home use as a desktop replacement to save space (the same way an iMac is an All-In-One that uses laptop parts) or for taking to LAN parties.

I've built plenty of computers. You totally overestimate the Hardware Vs OS part of the equation. The OS is much more important than specs. And i'll take my Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz iMac with 4, soon to be 8GB of DDR3 over any Windows Machine, ANY day. Hard drive storage is pointless to argue. You can buy external HDD's and huge flash drives for cheap as shit for either system.
If you built machines then you would know, that the speeds of external usb/firewire storage, that your stuck with on the macs, cannot compete with the speed of internal sata, and not to mention that you can add esata for external on a pc.
Also you seem to be forgetting about the application, vs hardware. Since it's where the applications is where hardware really counts not the os. For example how the macs are severely lacking in proper GPU's for 3d modeling. Last I checked the best card offered standard on the macs is a GT130. Which is just about the lowest end dedicated graphics card you can get with a new computer.
So say your running autodesk maya, it's not going to care what OS your running, but it does care about your GPU. It's going to run slow if you have a slow gpu, regardless of what OS your running. Your overestimating OSX.
I OWN the Dell Studio XPS 13, so I can say honestly that you're incorrect on several things.
The Dell has MUCH more powerful graphics, and the memory is NOT shared like it is on the Mac. The 500 GB hard drive is built in. I don't need something dangling off my laptop.

battery life more or less comes down to your to what kind of hard drive you have and its speed. I changed the hdd in my HP to a 250GB SSD. It more than doubled my battery life. I can spend half a day in class and the library and never have to worry about charging.

Well your guarntee was wrong because I never has walware or adware before by going on ANY site(s). I use norton 360 2009 and it works great. I havent got a single virus or malware or spyware etc ever in my computer. If I download a file that has a virus firefox scans it first and if it misses anything then norton 360 can prevent it from going in my computeer and it deletes it

What are you talking about? You can right-click on a Mac.. and you don't have to install anything to put Windows on a Mac.. Boot Camp is all you need, and it comes on all Macs. that's really true I thought I would be able to use the mac for some light coding and writing but the keyboard sucks copy and paste, moving files and etc all a chore on the mac, so much for superior. Both mac osx and windows have gives and takes. What I do like about macs is final cut and other software like it, but apple rolled it all up into a studio package not going to buy a studio package when I only want 1 program from it. And that +the pricing pyramid is why I dislike the mac platform.
I can run Windows Vista fine on my old AMD Athlon 5600+ clocked at stock settings, so I don't see why you're trying to emphasize that OS X doesn't require as powerful a processor.
As for the DDR3 memory, it shows little to no improvement over DDR2 due to poor latencies, and DDR2-800 is fine for anyone.
Also, why not get an external harddrive for the Dell as well? That seems more fair to me, to use the same for both. lol
Do you even have a clue how much smoother OS X is than any Windows version? It runs much, much better on a slower CPU than Vista does on a much faster one. I had a PC with 4GB of RAM that didn't run half as smoothly as my Mac with 4GB of RAM.. when I'm running every application i have.. while exporting a 1GB movie.

How many PC's are a unibody frame made of aluminum? I'd guess not many at all. Most are plastic junk. Apple computers aren't that expensive. In an iMac, the screen alone is almost $1000, so $2000 isn't bad at all. And don't even get started on customer service Apple vs PC vendors. Not even remotely close.

These commercial are absolutely stupid - a typical clueless MSFT marketing defensive stupidity. Having said this, about two weeks ago I was given a MBP 15" as a gift and absolutely hate everything about. It should be so easy for MSFT to completely destroy the garbage that Apple puts out (FN+Delete for DELETE, CMD/FN/CTRL+4 to copy screen, limited driver support - Canon 4370 DN printer, etc, etc.), but MSFT remains clueless. I am going to get a Sony Z series - I had it before and it was great!

I started dating a guy with a Mac, and I thought he was a dork for it- that was, until I used it... and BOOM, my life became simpler. Everything... just worked. Nothing was slow, I could have multiple things open at once and everyday things such as file sharing, internet and word processing was just awesome.
Everyone who is bashing Macs, stop looking at the specs and just try the freaking thing as it is! You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Because I was ignorant and did not want to try and use them. I have had my MacBook for over a year now and my life has been so simple since! It doesn't take forever for my computer to boot up, it rarely freezes and I am able to do everything on this computer that I ever intended on doing. In fact, just bought an iMac about a month ago, which is awesome as well. Not big into computer gaming- it seems like that's the biggest flaw people give a Mac... weird, because last time I checked, most people bought consoles for gaming?

I thought I would add I am not a techie. I don't know the in-depth specs of my Mac and I didn't know the specs of my PC. All I know is I bought the basic form of both, the RAM and the Hard drive size.

i would like to say that for 1600 you can get a macbook pro with 4 gigs of ddr3, a 2.53ghz prcessor and a 250 gig hard drive. even though the it has 250 less hard drive space, the macbook makes up for it by having bluetooth, a solid aluminum body, a multi_touch trackpad (that actually works unlike the ones in some windows computers) and all of the macs come with ilife. so the mac is deff the better buy

I had an Apple rep help me, and dealt with AT&T for me for 2 hours over my MMS. Try getting that with Dell or HP or some shit. NOT happening. 1. Not all laptops are portable: my 17" gaming laptop wasnt portable and i never took it anywhere, weighed too much.
2. what is Do programs fast: have you talked to teh general public about computers before? cause this is how they talk.
3. I dont know where you got 2.53Ghz from, but i know a couple people with that laptop and it was ~$800. 2.0-2.3Ghz, 4GB ~320GB.
Externals arent very portable.
As far as power to run vista, any dual core and 2GB is plenty to run it. it avg. 3.5hrs batt.

Yes, they're all portable. If you got a laptop that isn't portable, you bought a desktop. If you pay anything for a Windows machine you're getting ripped off. Not all laptops are meant to be portable in the fact that you can take them anywhere with you. Most gaming laptops are meant for home use as a desktop replacement to save space (the same way an iMac is an All-In-One that uses laptop parts) or for taking to LAN parties.

Thank you Jeremy! I run six XP PC's at my business and I am replacing every one of them with a mac as soon as I can afford to. I have a 5 year old G5 tower at home and it out performs all of the XP's.
The PC's constantly hang up, and freak out. I spend hours every defragging, delousing, and upgrading drivers and programs. Constant network problems.
I go any where with my mac laptop, my wifi is up and running in seconds. My brothers PC gaming laptop takes alot longer, No Comparison, Mac is king.

Wow wow, when you say Windows OS, do you mean all of them? Windows Vista, yeah it was slow at first, but it got updates, so now it runs pretty good, even on slower pc's, and I've never gotten a BSOD with Vista yet, most of the time people get BSOD's from hardware failures, not from the OS, actually I'm pretty tired of people (most mac owners) saying that Vista sucks, yeah it sucked at release, but Microsoft fixed all the errors with SP1, it seems like you mac fans ignore the truth

I've built plenty of computers. You totally overestimate the Hardware Vs OS part of the equation. The OS is much more important than specs. And i'll take my Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz iMac with 4, soon to be 8GB of DDR3 over any Windows Machine, ANY day. Hard drive storage is pointless to argue. You can buy external HDD's and huge flash drives for cheap as shit for either system.

Also you seem to be forgetting about the application, vs hardware. Since it's where the applications is where hardware really counts not the os. For example how the macs are severely lacking in proper GPU's for 3d modeling. Last I checked the best card offered standard on the macs is a GT130. Which is just about the lowest end dedicated graphics card you can get with a new computer.

I OWN the Dell Studio XPS 13, so I can say honestly that you're incorrect on several things.
The Dell has MUCH more powerful graphics, and the memory is NOT shared like it is on the Mac. The 500 GB hard drive is built in. I don't need something dangling off my laptop.

battery life more or less comes down to your to what kind of hard drive you have and its speed. I changed the hdd in my HP to a 250GB SSD. It more than doubled my battery life. I can spend half a day in class and the library and never have to worry about charging.

The ONLY thing Windows has over OS X is gaming.. and that comes to an end in November when Onlive launches and you can game on ANY computer/tv with no lag at all (depending on your connection) OS X is much more stable, much more secure, has better apps and needs much less maintenance.

Well your guarntee was wrong because I never has walware or adware before by going on ANY site(s). I use norton 360 2009 and it works great. I havent got a single virus or malware or spyware etc ever in my computer. If I download a file that has a virus firefox scans it first and if it misses anything then norton 360 can prevent it from going in my computeer and it deletes it

Macs aren't more secure, they're simply targeted less due to a smaller market share. They're not more stable either, as I've heard plenty of complaints of spinning beach balls of death and kernel panics.

that's really true I thought I would be able to use the mac for some light coding and writing but the keyboard sucks copy and paste, moving files and etc all a chore on the mac, so much for superior. Both mac osx and windows have gives and takes. What I do like about macs is final cut and other software like it, but apple rolled it all up into a studio package not going to buy a studio package when I only want 1 program from it. And that +the pricing pyramid is why I dislike the mac platform.

I can run Windows Vista fine on my old AMD Athlon 5600+ clocked at stock settings, so I don't see why you're trying to emphasize that OS X doesn't require as powerful a processor.
As for the DDR3 memory, it shows little to no improvement over DDR2 due to poor latencies, and DDR2-800 is fine for anyone.
Also, why not get an external harddrive for the Dell as well? That seems more fair to me, to use the same for both. lol

I had a PC with 4GB of RAM that didn't run half as smoothly as my Mac with 4GB of RAM.. when I'm running every application i have.. while exporting a 1GB movie.

I also thought Mac OS X was better than Windows when I got my MacBook Pro, then I realized it was just another unix-like OS and no better than any other, and went back to using Solaris and Ubuntu. Why pay more for less hardware support? I like my AMD processors.

To clarify, as my statement is somewhat ambiguous, I didn't mean to imply that Windows is unix-like, as it certainly isn't, but that Mac OS X is no better than Windows than any other unix-like OS (Solaris, GNU/Linux, BSD) is.

I gt 4gb 800mhz ram when I bought my PC lappy new for $600 NZD ;O $386.309 USD. So what you said was complete bullsack, just stay away from branded pc's aight.

800MHz? lol. Wow. I hope you bought this in 2000. lol. You bought 800MHz and actually paid almost $400 for it? lol. I can buy a faster old Mac for less than that.. like 1.2GHz and 2-4GB of RAM for like $250-350
