Looks smooth, very impressed that you built it. I've had some great success using a Cam Caddie to get skate shots. I've been able to get night shots by attaching lights to it as well pretty damn convenient.
Great job! Finally someone makes a smooth dolly, And i love how everyone has to point out that the track is in the picture when you clearly stated it... What the hell guys? And also, the skateboarding was rightous!
o and one more thing how do u have your camera so low do u use a small tripod or you just have it on wood or soemthingc aseu all the small tripods ive seen cant hold up my cam
some tripods have a threaded pipe between the legs. if you get thread that fits cameras(i cant think of the size right now) you can fix the camera to it. even if the camera is upside down you can just rotate it in production
i used pvc and left over skate wheels but mine is not nearly as fucking smooth as yours it pisses me off did you use new wheels and bearing ( ima ssuming u sued skate wheels)
really thats awesome yeah i realized it was my old wheels that were causing the shaking so i went and bought two sets of some blanks and its alot smoother i uplkoaded a test last night yours still is too smooth great job you should post a video showering your design like even if it just a picture or somehting lol
Its a platform a camera sits on, that rides on two tracks, so it gives a nice moving shot in your video. (has nothing to do with skating) just the video your watching has skateboarders in it!
i didn't realize, thought it was a mistake. Good dolly though, i'm hoping to make one like it for my next film, coming to cinema near dundee, scotland. Free punch and haggis
this video is awesome...i know it's a test but the music and the shots are amazing...and i'm not even into skateboarding. might i ask what the title of this track is?
nice work, looked great ,just remember to zoom in or angle the cam diff ,and run through the shot first looking at the lcd so we dont see the track, but other than that it looked smooth, good job, and your friends can sk8 like a mofo
this is really great for a test's standards. the dolly really improves the quality of the video. idk what you're using to steady the camera on, but if you want to dolly-pan, you can take a $25-$50 camera tripod, oil up the x- axis 'rotation mechanism', and use a rubber band (which absorbes the shocks from a shaky hand) to pull the camera frame side to side while it rolls on the dolly. ...it would be "sick."
it seems impractical for a skate video but if you do alot of shooting in one place and its easy to pick up and move to a different place the smoothness of the dolly adds a sweet effect
and for the purpose of filming these shots, a dolly is impractical.
if you want to the smooth dolly shots without having to lug around a track and all that, just get some softer wheels for your board and be super steady.
