  • Wonderful explanations, Rowan. I loved the performance practices, cultural adages and translations you presented.

    One note that came to my attention; using a more generic term, like "metal discs' in place of zils or jingles seems to relate more to a universal understanding. I bring this up becuase some people get very territorial and nationalistic about language references. You have a wonderful collection of instruments, also. I look forward to getting in touch.     Why can it not be found in any Persian music videos before 1970? Because in 1974 Bijan Kamkar introduced it to Persian Music...

  • Daf is not a arabic word,and doesnt mean wood!! it comes from the antique word "dap" e "dup" that in iranian antique language" pahlavi" it means "to hit".
