@Xx75racer75xX yeah. richard crashed early in the race and while getting out of the car he twisted his ankle, which is why he was in the infield medical center.
Thank God the crash wasn't fatal. Though, I wish Adam was still with us. That way, he could get married, have a family, and keep the NASCAR royal family alive. I regret to say this, but when The King and the Prince are gone, NASCAR won't be the same ever agian.
I know we learn from our mistakes but damn, a guardrail being used instead of a concrete. I guess concrete wasn't invented back then. And guardrail was their version of the safer wall...stupid
It dawned on me not that long ago that when both Lee and Richard had their bad wrecks at Daytona (Richard's being in the '88 500), there was a #73 Ford involved both times... YIKES!!
@BSNFabricating The Same thing is with Earnhardt Sr's crash. in 1996 Sterling Marlin Got Involved and went into the wall with Dale, in 2001 Sterling Marlin taped Dale Turning him into the wall..
This is actully a Scary Looking crash.. if they had Concrete Walls like they do today.. i do not believe that Lee petty would have survived this.
@SammyFarkle in the 01 race, earnhardt got loose and slid up the track into sterling marlin, which turned him into the wall. i've always though it was weird the he died in a minor looking crash and lee petty had this scary crash and was able to survive. amazing how things turn out sometimes.
The other guy was Johnny Beauchamp, (my dad drove him back to Iowa after the wreck and Johnny could only travel 4 hours per day, it took them most of the week to get home) he did not race nascar after that, but did go on to a driving career in IMCA in Iowa, then a flag man at shelby county speedway in Harlen Iowa. My dad was a pit member on his team most of his career. He was a great guy!!!

I wouldn't call Richard's crash bad, but just spectacular. 1970 Darlington crash is probably worse hit Richard has taken.
