  • Love this song so much. Curtis Mayfield was amazing. Heard this song on the Wire recently. I had forgotten all about it.

  • this song is suck a good reality check we need to stop complaining about what we don't have and just be thankful for for what we do.

  • My father had this record from Cutris Mayfield and also records from Isaac Hayes, Stevie Wonder. I love R&B, Soul from that era.

  • Just be thankful, for what you got.

  • I see pool halls, and people dressed to the nines,a summers day,and white men driving through the black Community with their windows rolled up! I see the superfly clothing in rainbows of colors and alligator shoes, and eight tracks in cadillac's in a time of Possibility's.

  • one of my favorits...

  • im 19 and I enjoy all these soulful songs ! when i have my future children IMA MAKE SURE they hear these songs. It will teach em sumthing more than Nicki Minaj's - Stupid hoe :O

  • @PrincessBowwette SHE'S DEFINITELY A STUPID FUCKED UP HOE

  • Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Ottis Redding, Marvin Gaye..The list could go on and on. I wasn't even born in this era and miss music like this. Those were the days when music had more heart, soul and actual instruments were used. Most modern music is over produced, superficial and completely void of any real substance.

  • I love this My homeboy used to sing this to us Diamond Money Y.P.E. angel

  • ill still let this crack threw my trunk than after that ill play the remake by luda

  • my mother used to play all these songs.. lol at being a little girl belting out this song. still love it to this day..this is what you call that smooth, calm and collect melody

  • diamond in the back sun roof top!

  • this joint is takeing me back home, before dogface and before i was a daed beat dad...

  • This was a time in Black music that we just can't get back. Class, style, and sophistication.

  • Though You may not drive a great big cadillac , Gansta whitewalls ,TV antennas in the back. Im gonna rent a cadillac and play this song on repeat lOll. Im only 17 btw.

  • If This Ain't The Truth I Don't Know What Truth Is!

  • I SO WISH I WAS BORN DURING THIS ERA....WHAT!!!!!

  • @IndianBeauty88 remember...just be thankful...for what choo got ;)

  • @IndianBeauty88 Well, I was born in this era!!! No doubt, the music-- the quality of it-- was way better then than now, although there is good music out today, too. Check my page & you'll see how I'm talking when it comes to music!!

  • @IndianBeauty88 No you don't. This was a rough time to live in actually. Height of the crack epidemic and lots of poor black folk struggling to survive. Unless you white. Then you are aight.

  • Actually this song came out before the crack epidemic.

  • @theilokana .. sorry, crack was not invented yet when this song came out

  • @theilokana this as before crack....crack hit early to mid 80s!!!! FUCKIN IDIOT!!!

  • i am in love with this song. puts a smile on my face every time

  • Now JiNN-GoD just take these signs to the military & show the Angel Faces.

  • Its interesting how the at this time we were intectual and respectful to each other but today we have lost our creativity and singing madness that is produced by people who hate black people...But thanks to the internet we can enjoy music when it was actually music...

  • vom feinsten

  • Take her for a ride and tell her how beautiful she is with the world at your feet. The future can't continue without a move of your hand. While the wind blow through her hair.

  • too smooth

  • This is the shit remember cruzing with my tios when they shine up the rides and go out all night

  • Way better than Ludacris.

  • How could you ever go wrong with this classic joint?

  • i wonder if rappers ever intended to sample these songs for the sole purpose of directing the youth back to such awesome music

  • DEAR GOD GIVE US BACK CURTIS MAYFIELD IN RETURN WILL GIVE U LUDACRIS !!!!

  • These song would make the geekiest, small, nerdiest fool look like a mack... You cant just hear this song, you have to listen, all the way through......

  • Born in '63, Italian, white, Long Island boy & no black people for miles. I turn 15 & start working summer's in Brooklyn loading trucks & working the docks in 95 degree heat, no a/c with "Buddy", "P.D." "Black Billy" & "Solages". The old man always said, "You're gonna find out that a real man isn't the color of his skin or the muscles on his arms. It's the guys who work hard & provide for their families who are real men". They turned me on to (Curtis, Temps, O'jays, Al Green). Great guys.

  • @demolished1000

    Thank you for that.

  • Listen to Curtis n' be glad you wern't black back then

  • too bad gas prices aint how they use to be cause i'll be riding non-stop with this on repeat

  • @hellohellodeykno12 right man those where the good days

  • @hellohellodeykno12 OKAY! Lmao!

  • @hellohellodeykno12

ROFL, 0.36 cents a gallon. I'll never forget that price because my girlfriends and I went to the gas station and bought one gallon to her to some mans house. Mercy what kids won't do. Oops did I just give my age away?

  • @ASultryWmn You kind of did lol

  • @hellohellodeykno12 hell yea... im 24. i remember back in the early 90's gas was $1.00/gallon... $20 have the tank running over literally!

  • @hellohellodeykno12 we going green these days my man

  • @hellohellodeykno12, Ditto.

  • @hellohellodeykno12 get a ipod and take the bus lol

  • @MinkSnopes..I remember those big Deuce and a quarters, cause my uncle had one of those. As soon as he brought it home, the first thing he did was to put some spoked rims on it. It was the flyest ride on the block.

  • i swear to god until i looked up the lyrics i swore he was saying "gangsta whiteboy"

  • curtis mayfield love his old songs

  • Dont forget the matching fake fur ( we didnt have any money for the real shit) and brim.

  • being thankful for what you have, a perfect song for Xmas 2011

  • This is the entire resason I bought my 1970 Cadillac and restored it just so I could cruise the scene listening to this. I also understand the message of being thankful for what you have.

  • It's tragically ironic that "gangsta lean" is the most memorable and emulated aspect of this song; in fact most social messaging have this negative self-destructive effect. Not too sure why, but it's as troubling as it puzzling. Amazing song non-the-less.

  • @KingEddieification its one of the lines he repeats. im sure he doesnt think its tragic at all.

  • @KingEddieification alot of curtis songs were about the "hood" in diffrent manners and instances just a diffrent time so i guess you can say he was the "gangster rapper" of his time if you get what im tryin to say

  • @KingEddieification its because people are brain washed. We sleep , they live

  • I guy I worked with in '75 had a black Buick Electra 225 (deuce and a quarter) with the diamond, sun roof, gangster whitewalls, yellow headlights, playboy emblem on the side, giant fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror, and I think his zodiac sign somewhere...leather interior smelled like coconut.

  • HIS HE MARRIED?:-)

  • @teamhendrick2011 : Who?

  • that snow feature youtube has on right now, makes this tune more chill 8-)

  • A friends boyfriend got his car outfitted with the diamond in the back. He rode round ll the time playing this song in his cassette player. What sight to see. His name was Don Porter. LOLOLO

  • @KneeGrowPlease931 1970s cruising the lake .. windows down.. chilled listening to this.. still makes me smile

  • Brothers and sisters you can still stand tall..................revolutionary by then and even now

  • @brownsin "you may not have a car at all...."....the song wasnt all about the diamond in the back, i see you brotha.

  • faboulous love dis shit

  • two thumbs up! feel like back in Cali

  • Clovis, I'm just guessing here but I think you couldn't be black man in the 70's simply cuz you're too freakin' young. The 70's was my decade and I ruled it with a rod of iron. Thats why they call me the RABSHAKEH! Imagine seeing Rick James in concert back in 78 when he was still young and crazy. Issac Hayes, War, Rolls Royce, you name it. The 70's put on the show. Thats why i thank God for Youtube and all the people who post this stuff. Sweeet - The Party is at Clovis house on Christmas night!

  • @clovisisabeast Just be thankful for what you got!!!

  • @clovisisabeast lol they did totally exude the coolness factor eh?

  • @clovisisabeast because you wouldn't want to be a part of the struggle the black man endured during that era due to racist oppression. That is part of the reason the music is so beautiful

  • @kmkl5999 THANK YOU!!
