  • Fricken love this! I'll be playing as Marian in our school musical(:

  • @MrsCupcakejessjess who r u? trinity?

  • The only part I dont get about the ending is this: When the bad suddenly becomes "good/amazing" is that just in their heads, like is that just how they are feeling and its a creative "transition" used by the director? Or is that actually a real parade?

  • @matthewschneider123 I think its more like he couldn't conduct properly with handcuffs on. :3

  • 0:43--it's Maria from Slings and Arrows!!

  • I don't care what anyone says! That was cool!

  • this is my school play this year... auditions are tomorrow I'm so frigging excited!!! wish me luck!!

  • @zeldagirly22 couldn't agree more! Such good chemistry!:)

  • Ha ha, now they DEFINITELY don't have to worry about any more trouble in River City 

  • "Snake in our bosum"...?

    Alrighty then...

  • The beginning of the movie was July 4th. And it takes about 6 weeks for uniforms and instruments to arrive. It's about Mid-August at the end. So, they celebrate July 4th in mid-August? Must be an Iowa thing.

  • Where's my 76 trombones?

    I only see 12 :(

  • amaaazing movie. matthew and kristen were perfect

  • the dude dat played harold hill is sexy like real live.... im kinda into older guys...

  • Gaaaa!! Being a musician and seeing this is horrific!! And is that a small mase or a one sided baton he has at the end?

  • @ashto2424 that happens to be a mop to start with. after that, it's a mace. If there is such a thing as a one sided baton, I've certainly never heard of it. Sure, it's not a huge mace, but it's most definitely a mace.

  • Wow. Kristin Chenoweth's acting SUCKS in this film. She shows absolutely no emotion or passion for what she's portraying. Subtlety is not for musical theatre, ESPECIALLY for a show like The Music Man. Watching her is like watching a middle school production Marian Paroo. Geeze, thank God for the 1962 version.

  • Many of the lyrics and small lines were easier to understand in this version. For example, I never knew the Shipoopy was about the "girl who's hard to get". The best thing about this film, though, was Cameron Monaghan as Winthrop. How adorable is that kid? He was actually the reason I looked this video up, after seeing some of his more recent work.

  • @rfresa OH MY GOD!! Winthrop is played by Cameron Monaghan? From Shameless???

  • @rfresa that's a matter of opinion. I understood both but the sound and the dialogue, I believe, are better in the original. Besides, as I mentioned about opinion, Ron Howard is better as Withrop. And who can possibly beat Robert Preston and Shirley Jones?

  • It's interesting to see the differences between this and the earlier film version of the Music Man. Matthew Broderick has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but there were some parts of this where his face was kind of stiff; I would have liked to see him smile more. Kristen Chenowith was amazing, as usual.

  • The only thing about this story that I don't get is that, in all the years Prof. Hill was forming bands, he never bothered to pick up a book on music theory. Do that & you not only form the band but you can at least pass them off long enough to get out before things get bad.

  • I'm in colorguard at my school and I wish we did a parade like that!

Haha the Mayor "it is oblivious to me that.." lmao

  • I LOVE Mattew Broderick's face when she hands him the broken pointer!

  • It was a pretty good movie but I like the original way better

  • I love the ending! It's so cute!

  • This song brings back amazing memories.

  • aww look Zaneeta's in colorguard

  • Band Mom at 5:47.

  • For those of you who are all spazzing over who Broderick is, I will list a few "famous" characters: Adult Simba (voice), Ferris Bueller, Despereaux (voice), Steve Finch (Deck the Halls), Leopold Bloom (The Producers), Inspector Gadget. The list continues. Oddly enough, This is not Broderick's only film with Chenoweth. They were in Deck the Halls together as well. He played Steve Finch and she played the opposing neighbor's (Buddy Hall-Danny Devito) wife.

  • at 3:56 ... its so beautifaul they are so in tune lol!

  • harold's face at 4:03!!! ahahahahahaha!!! i died laughing that was THE perfect expression! i love this movie!

  • I wish the 76 Trombones reprise was in the stage version. It would sooo improve the ending.

  • ....The word 'Shropshire' is pronounced "SHROP-shir", not "SHROP-SHIRE". I don't think that was a character choice to go along with Mayor Shinn's botched pronunciations, I think that was another example at the lack of a speech/dialect coach in this film. Ugh!

  • @LaMostraESopra Actually, it was an example of his role in the musical as a ridiculous character. He was probably supposed to pronounce that word and several other words incorrectly while thinking he's totally the man. Fits the character. It establishes him further as a character the audience isn't supposed to like, he's both the antagonist and a grammar-deficient moron.

  • Bestt ending.

  • @MissWings460 I'm also auditioning for Marian's part in a few days! I'm singing My White Knight. I watched this so I know what's ahead of me.

  • @caitlyneandaolanie ohh good luck!! that was one of my choices, but the key we had to sing it in was so high, so i went with wells fargo wagon. i found out yesterday i made the musical(:

  • i'm auditioning for music man in a few days, singing one of marian's songs, and performing her part. i was SOO nervous. watching kristin chenoweth has INSPIRED me. its all thanks to her, i have so many ideas and an amazing role model in acting and singing. thank you kristin!

  • 6:22 LMAO!!!!

  • Aww that's soo cutee I love the ending. And Kristen Chenoweth and Matthew Broderick have such awesome chemistry.

  • I think all of the actors were fantastic, including Matthew Broderick and ESPECIALLY Kristen Chenoweth. She's a true Broadway baby and I love her to death!! She and Idina Menzel are THE modern Broadway greats, and Kristen's appearance made the movie that much better :)!!!!!!

  • we r doing this 4 our school play and im marain im scared :\

  • XD I was one of those horrible band players in our play this year! Way fun!

  • Impromptu parade FTW!!!!!

  • love it first time i watched it

  • i rate this movie infinity... our high schools last preformance was tecnically last night because its past midinght... I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

  • the made a remake of this movie i didnt know that!

  • Go girl power!!!! It's the women who really get things done right in this world!

  • @musicalmeg19 there r more great men, the woman

  • I Love You

  • my godd suchh a showstopper!!

thank you soo much for uploading this movie, i haven't seen it in years and it's amazing to rewatch it (:

  • superb Thanks for uploading!

  • I think the last time I saw Matthew Broderick looking that panic-stricken was when a computer asked him to play a game.

  • i wish everything in life had a happy ending like this:)

  • well i just love this version. mathew broderick and kristin chenowith did great. This version is definitly better than the original. i mean not that i dont like robert's version of harold hill, but mathew was way more of a charmer and he was way more enthusiastic. I could actually feel the chemistry between mathew and kristin!

  • I like this movie. Except when the band isn't stepping on the right foot. By right I mean left. :)

  • Poor Tommy got the shaft in this adaptation.

  • This was AWFUL AWFUL, AWFUL. Robert Preston... and Meredith Willson are turning in their graves.

  • I was an extra in this movie, If you pause at 6:54 I'm the kid being help by the older man. I believe this was done right around when I was seven at the time, and now I'm 16 I got to meet Mathew Broderick. It was an amazing experience to get a taste of movie making and to meet so many influential people

  • @AwesomeX66 Really? You are so lucky. What was Matthew like?

  • I was an extra in this movie, If you pause at 6:54 I'm the kid being help by the older man. I believe this was done right around when I was seven at the time, and now I'm 16 I got to meet Mathew Broderick. It was an amazing experience to get a taste of movie making and to meet so many influential people

  • matthew looks really hott when his hair isn't slicked back ) 0:50 ( not like he wasn't adorable in the first place)

  • love this movie! :P

    kristin is amazing

  • when i first heard that there was a 2003 version of The Music Man, i was disgusted because remakes are terrible. but this remake it actually pretty good.

  • I love this movie, and I don't know why.

  • what a kick ass movie!

  • i got to play in the pit when my school did this and we got to play badly... so much fun.

  • *wipes tears* The bands performance was so beautiful!

No, seriously, the movie is AMAZING!

  • @TheYuriFreak o yeah

  • Nice Version. I Liked The Outfits In The Old One Better, Though. Shirley's Dress In "Till There Was You" Was Really Pretty And The One Where She Encounters Charlie

  • Awesome movie!!!! I'm so glad that my school decided to choose this as our musical this year!!!!! ^_^ <3 this movie!!!!

  • BRAVO! BRAVA! YAAAY! FOR THIS MOVIE!

  • see in the old one they all sit back down and that sucks in this one they stay standing!!!! yay!!!

  • "she has a lovely voice" ...well, you better do if you are actually an opera singer!! Oh man...

This movie is absolutely fantastic! Broderick like usually: only has one facial expression (and his grin in "Marian, the Librarian" was scary! xD) but his voice is really good :D And Kristin is such a cutie! The little boy (can't spell his name...) reminded me of one of the "Die kleinen Strolche" (is it "Little Rascalls" in English? @.@) and he was soooooo cute!! Very well done!

  • This movie has left me spellbound --- no words to describe how wonderful it is!

  • J'aime si musical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful! Stupendous! Any other adjectives, post a comment for what they are!

  • this has to be the funniest scene in the entire play, i can't wait until our school preforms this musical

  • i love this musical

  • watching this brings back so many memories from when i was in this play. thanks for uploading the vid! ppl stop hating on the movie. if there was no original you all wouldve loved this version. this was done very well

  • Her acting wasnt SO bad? She's a professional actress.... I think she did fabulous.

  • "That girl" is Kristin Chenoweth- and her singing and acting ability runs circles around Momma Partridge. If you don't know the name look her up, she is one of the absolute greats of modern day Broadway.

  • Amen! Very well said!

  • @authorgirl87 I must respectfully disagree. Anyone who saw Oklahoma! with Shirley knows that this movie didn't scratch the surface of her vocal talents.

  • @authorgirl87 hear hear! well said.

  • @authorgirl87 *bristles* Kristen Chenoweth is exceptionally talented, and indeed. HOWEVER

Shirley Jonas is a legend. She is so much more than 'momma patridge'. She starred in many musicals not because she was charismatic (which she was) or because she was beautiful (which she was) or because she had an excellent voice (which she undeniably did) or because the people writing the musicals (you know Rodgers, Hammerstein, Meredith Wilson) liked her. But because she is and was THE BEST.

  • the band at the end looks like a bunch of college kids with winthrop marching along with them :D

  • I've been looking everywhere for this! Thanks for uploading it!

  • bah, I wish the actual stage production had this awesome of an ending. ): I'm playing Marian, and the ending is just she and Harold embracing as the band plays badly. curtain falls. the end.

    O_______o

  • lol what the heck

  • thank you for uploading this film, it was wonderful to watch it again =)

  • OMG!!! I am inspired to become an amazing Drum Major....

  • I've seen the play and i say wow they both are equally awsome. : - }

  • Thanx for posting the movie for us. I actually seen this version before the original and I must say I like both of them equally. They have their own touch to it. I'm also playing Charlie Cowell In my play and it's really fun being the bad guy haha.

  • haha his expression at 3:35!!!

  • This is a terrific movie, the this part in the original just can't be beat.

  • I never enjoyed plays or musicals or even watched them--til now. But what effort one can make on youtube for another's enjoyment--is priceless. Thank you! pt 05/18/2009

  • is it weird tht all i can think about is how god awful that hat is on Marion at the end/>

  • not at all. wtf is that thing

  • woo kristin can KISS ;);)

  • This is a pretty good remake. No one can really touch the original though - its the best one. I really loved Kristin and Matthew's chemistry - the seem to work really well together. The only thing I had a problem with the posts, is that on half on them, the timing of the video and audio was off! :(

  • idk what everybody's complaining about. I think Matthew Broderick did a fantastic job as Harold Hill. He definitely made it his own, and added a certain charm to the character.

  • my thoughts exactly.

  • @broadwaystar92 He did do a good job and has an okay voice, but Robert Preston was without peer in his time or in this time. He's Robert Preston.

  • @broadwaystar92 amen to that. i feel exactly the same way

  • we are doing the music man in my town and i auditioned for marcellus and mayor shinn. i can't wait to see what part i got!

  • I love the end where Mrs. Paroo is hitting the drum!

  • Haha, yeah her expression is priceless!

  • I love this one!

  • I really want that hat Marian's wearing in the last part.

  • hahaha nice!

  • matthew brodrick is a great actor and all but i think a remake should have never been attempted

  • i beg to differ. She had the best voice in this whole movie! She played marian very well!

  • I believe the correct statement would be "But she doesn't act like the character well enough." :) Good day.

  • Kristin is the best marian. And such a great voice.

  • actually, Kristen is probably the best Marrion (<note, TWO "R"s). She's a wonderful actress.

  • omg thank u sooooo much for posting this movie!!!

i had to watch it for school and couldnt find it anywhere!! it was actually pretty good, too

    :)

  • wonderful movie! i only watched it because of Kristin, but it turned out to be great!

  • hahaha

i love it when he says "think, men. THINK!"

  • hahahahha same here!

  • Sorry guys, but Robert Preston WAS Harold Hill!

  • Could you post the old one up also if so it would be greatly appreciated thanks and i love this movie thanks again

  • The original is the best. But this is so good! Love Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Broderick.

hahaha Meredith Willson certainly understood parents. The children play horrifically, but the simple fact that it is THEIR children saves Hill's hide!

  • nice video i like the ending

  • I agree^.^

  • thanx 4 posting! it was so cute!

  • I loved it! Aaah i was beaming at the end. Hehe Kristin and Matthew turn your heart to gold ^^ Im soo getting the movie now! Thankyou so much for posting it.

  • i really enjoyed it, thanks for posting casting away. a memorable 2 hours!

  • Those two are so cute together!

  • You can actually see the change of heart here. At the end of the old one, I always wondered why everyone was standing up for him. Here it all makes sense.

  • The original is better. Especially because of that psycho hat.

  • What in the heck is wrong with you?! If you didn't like this, then why bother to watch it? That was definitely something you ought to have kept to yourself there. :/

  • Just saying what I think.

Or am I not allowed to do that anymore?

  • Well, there are some things people should keep to themselves.

"Thank God thats over and I never have to endure that ever again!"

You made it as though you were forced to watch this or something.

  • i wanted to get this on dvd so me and my mum could watch it..

but they didn't have it at my video shop.

so i'll resort to this instead :P

    gooood as movie but :D

  • Jolly fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spent our Friday night watching this on YouTube, and drinking a bottle of wine. Must go and buy the dvd now!

  • That was nice of Disney to remake this film to remind us of the wonder of musicals

  • Our community is doing this play too.

My school gets to play in the band during the final songs and I get to actually watch the play today but it is a great movie!!!!

  • Sorry about the quality of the videos and them being out of sync guys, they weren't like that when I uploaded them, I blame Youtube lol.

  • @CastingAway still great

  • What's with her hat!?

  • my thoughts exactly

  • Hey! A groupNI am in is preforming it as well! I LOVe being in the band! lol

  • I'm doing Music Man this summer too (Bayonne, NJ)! Opening night is this Saturday. Break a leg everyone!

  • Thanks for uploading this. I had a blast watching all 17 videos all in one night (took 4 hours). I have seen the original, and I say they both good as they are. Both movies have good points-- this one for acting, the original for singing. Plus, the kicker was I felt like I was in my childhood again since then I have come to love musicals.

  • Oh, and I forgot to say I absolutely love the "colorblind" casting in this film! It's simply divine.

  • thanks for haveing the 17 vids of this i loved the original but i truly liked this version alot with the actors (sighs at Mathew) 5 stars thanks again

  • Best musical ever. I seem to remember a wedding thrown in there some time though..... In the live professonl production that I was in Marian and Harold got married at the end. Whatever..... It's still by far the best musical EVER!

  • I've seen the show several times, and there's never been a wedding, so I think that was probably just something your director decided to do.

  • Kristen looks so pretty at 3:36 :]

  • Kristin with an i. :]

Just thought you'd might like to know. :]

  • I went looking for songs from this musical because I am trying out for a community theatre production tomorrow night and hadn't seen the film since I was a kid. I hadn't seen this version before, but I am SO grateful to CastingAway for posting the entire thing! Now I feel a lot more prepared...thanks! XD

  • he looks funny with out his hat on...
