I'm thirteen and I love June Carter and all of em. They should real class and resilience. I just read the book that her son wrote about her. There was a story about her pickin up the phone and then talkin for about an hour and when Roseanne (Cash's daughter) asked who it was, she said it was a wrong number. She's an amazing woman.
Thanks for putting this on. June was soooooo funny!!!!!!!!!!!! June was great. Even though I'm 14 I know alot about The Carter Family. Even A.P And Sara. Who started all this.
A beautiful song sung by my all time favorite group of singers, the Carter family. They were so great together it is hard to believe that I never hear them on the radio. June, Anita, and Helen were all fantastic. Maybelle had a terrific voice and her guitar playing was second to none except maybe Chet Atkins who was playing with them. Music doesn't get any better.
sugarcoma.....She performed live every Staurday night on the GRAND OLE OPRY! (among many other places)!
LIVE...not recorderd in the beginning! She was a comedian/singer. She did the "ROUTINES" repeatedly ....They were known as "Rountines" in her case....just as did MINNIE PEARL ! Also...as has.... every singer ........performed their same songs over and over on every show they were on. June did her regular routines with whomever the Host was on the show..that particular night ! She was Great
I don't get why she tells the same jokes with different people. This is the third video I've watched where she's either talked about the cucumber or the toothpick/lumber. Were these all outtakes or something? *Confused!*
It's ok sugarcoma82 - it was a reasonable question. Her act was in constant demand and in those days TV producers told you what to say and do and if it worked once you repeated it a hundred times until everyone got sick of it.. Every Carter family member was comical (even Maybelle) and so was Johnny Cash but only June was extroverted enough to do this sort of stand-up routine regularly. Her act added marketable colour to a fiercely competitive TV entertainment industry.
LOL "Is that what that was?!" "Well, June you don't want a toothpick do ya?" I will agree, both girls are marvelous, but June is by far my favourite in comedy and in singing. Her delivery in comedy is great. Thanks so much for posting! Is it possible to get this on like dvd with more episodes on them?
It's part of a series put out by Gannaway. I got mine VHS, the only DVDs I saw were bootleg, they show up every now on then on Ebay. Just type in "Opry"
I AGREE!! I always have too,I didn't know anyone else felt the same way! Both girls were dolls,I'm wondering now why us girls can't be that pretty anymore?!
your pretty enough fiddlinmiss, wish you lived next door my goldtone banjo would sound good with you on guitar, and what you doing up so late lol xxx graham
Just wonder if Carl was listening as he was involved with Goldie Hill. That's why Carl and June were separated.I hope she was telling him"I'm Alright Now"!!!!!!
I wonder what year this was? June was separated from Carl Smith but in 1953 Anita married Don Davis so I curious since June joked about fixing her up with Carl.
OH MY GOD this is my first time seeing what june carter looked like when she was younge! no wonder johnny liked her so much! she did have so much sas and character and she was adorible! ahh
at this stage in their life June and anita could pass as twins, Anita had a lovely voice , but june was a real show woman with a good stage presenmtation, Helen excelled at everything from a sweet voice to multi instumental abilities

It was just a joke onstage, she wasn't really trying to set her husband up with her ex. This is probably from about '54 or '55
mcgastelo 3 years ago
Well I thought that might be the case. I just thought she wouldn't joke about that if Anita was married. It was still hilarious though.

LOL that was hilarious. June had a gift of humor. This is great.
