Woooo!.. Listening to that CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH is making me hungry! :O As that dog's snack, it sure taste good to him. This is making me hungry so what I think I am going to do is.. go to the grocery store and get me 2 packs of Jack Links Beef Jerky :D
Are chicken feet OK for puppies under 6 months to eat? My puppy had a chicken wing with skin on it and had diarrhea problems because of the fat content. Any thoughts on whether feet would be any better?
@wheat636 - Chicken feet are great for pups, just make sure you supervise your pup. Also, they type of skin on feet is somewhat different than the skin on wings. I don't think you would have an issue with loose poo, but that's always a possibility, especially with a newly introduced food.
@PeanutButterGtr It depends on where you buy it. And if you buy lots of meat and freeze it you don't have to go and buy more meat every single month. That saves alot.
@twistyness - I feed them as a snack or treat, or as the bone portion of a meal. Although when I forget to thaw out food on time, I'll break open a bag of frozen chicken feet and give a few to each dog to hold them over until the next meal.
@rawbasics I plan on feeding a high end kibble, and supplementing in Raw as treats. Is there anything that just should not be feed unless it's with a full Raw diet? In my area, you can get Chicken feet, necks, backs and giblets at the normal grocery story, you just have to ask for the feet, necks and backs. I would love to feed Full Raw, but my budget wont allow it.
@PinkSander - Not at all, feed whatever goodies you can get your hands on. It may just take some trial and error with possible loose poo problems. You will figure out how to adjust things pretty quickly. If you are going to feed both kibble and RAW, I would recommend that you feed the RAW meals separate (rather than just adding raw items to kibble meals), since they digest at different rates, etc.
Raw pork is approx 1,000 calories per pound. There is not much calories in chicken feet. It is mostly cartilage and small bone. The calories come from the skin. I would say they serve as a snack more then a meal since there is little calories in chicken feet, like a human eating a celery stick or carrot. Vitamins and minerals but not much calories.
@sanfranciscobay - We tend not to worry about calories. There is no need to get too technical when feeding dogs. We just feed a bunch of meat, bone, organ, and watch the dog's waistline until we pinpoint the right amount of food per meal for each individual dog. And by watching a dog's poop, you can figure out the ratio of meat to bone to organ that your dog does best on per meal.
Would I feed chicken feet for a week? No. But I have fed them as meals 2 or 3 times consecutively at most.
@sanfranciscobay - It's important to note that chicken feet wouldn't be feed as consecutive meals, short or long term, because of their bone content, not lack of calories. A piece of meat will obviously have more calories than a chicken foot. But feeding too much bone, without any "substance", has the potential of causing your dog some harm.

Isn't it expensive to constantly feed dogs fresh meat though?

Do you feed chicken feet as more of a snack, or do they stand alone as a meal? Just curious! Regardless, look at those chicken feet disappear! Wow.

Chicken feet are also a good natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin, and are great for arthritic dogs!
