A nut?? Pompous?... hmmm. Then I wish we had a few more "nuts" like him. PRSs are of consistently high quality; fine woods: good parts, excellent design, superb craftsmanship. Beyond what Gibson is able to consistently achieve (and I own a couple of nice Gibsons that I love). High quality comes at a price. When he declares it "an art" I think he's implying that the number of variables in guitar-making mean that it is "art" (or a bit of voodoo) when a bunch of parts becomes a fine guitar.
Everything what he said is a truth, guitar is very complicated instrument. Guitarist, me to...are very rarely satisfied with guitars...searching for "Holly Grail" never ends.
I'm a small-time luthier and can make guitars with comparable (sometimes better) quality than PRS, Gibson, Fender, etc. The name brand doesn't make the instrument, it's the person building the guitar that makes the instrument. These are all done on CNC machines - all of mine are hand cut using routers and templates, bandsaws, rasp files, sand paper, etc. They each have a unique character to them. I am also a CNC machining specialist in my day to day career but would rather give my guitars a soul
These cost about $1000 too much for what you get and prices just went up, so did Fender, from $1250 to $1600.
Im in a position to buy any guitar I want and I have to say I am looking at Gibson. Fender is way too expensive so the small $400 jump to a better quality Gibson LP Traditional for $1000 less than a PRS for the same sound and neck construction is where I am at.
In all honesty Ill probably get a Carvin CT6 all decked out for $2000, even changing the bridge and pickups I come out ahead.
what a nut i know this guy makes good guitars but he should try to lower the prices, the prs model guitars are two expensive, for the money you spend on a prs i´d rather a gibson les paul, nothing beats a good gibson les paul.
I find him a little pompous, PRS guitars are exceptionally good but he's trying to sound like what he does is impossible for anyone else to emulate. "EVERYTHING is an art form." Yeah, to the ordinary, unbelievably skilled workers in the factory. I don't think he builds them, they should be talking in this video!
Well, the SE guitars are really nice, but you'll never get the sound of a real PRS Custom 24 with one of these, of course. Anyway, I'm in love with the Custom 24, so I don't mind having to save up for a long time, as long as I can get the guitar of my dreams!! ^^
hey jeff..the korean made ones are reasonable..they are lightweight IMO..they offer similar playability as the american made ones..with the exception of the bells and whistles.the pickups are decent for stock ones.
I totally agree with you..I am looking to get an SE Singlecut, or an SE Custom (made in korea)..only becuase I cannot afford an american made PRS, I was wondering if you had any experience with "Korean-made" PRS guitars..

the korean ones sound exactly the same as the american ones.
the only differences are cosmetic, but personaly i can live without those cosmetic difference.
especially when your saving about $1000.
