This guy is a great interviewer. I like the fact he is asking Mr. Gandolfini about his approach to characters, his roles in movies and tv shows. Not his personal life and other tabloid rubbish. Thanks for uploading the video.
@nowaynohow26 Tell that to the jackass on part 1 who is bashing Lipton. I agree with you. That's what I love about this show. Great guests, great questions, and the audience gets to ask questions at the end.
when he asked have you ever had any experience with psycho-analysis, i was expecting james to say. Yeah this interview, some parts seemed more like an interrogation than an interview
The scene where he confesses to Dr. Melfi what really happened the night his cousin Tony got arrested (had a panic attack) was one of the most riveting scenes ever. OMG, what a show.
He may look uncomfortable and that, but, in his own words, he's like a 280-pound Woody Allen. He may look cool, but he's a self-professed neurotic and a bit insecure. And that's okay. Focus on what he says, not how he says it.
this guy... he doesn't like to "overdo it" when he explains a thing, he doesn't belabor the hell out of a point, he barely GETS THE POINT OUT. but he does get it out, and you understand his point. i LOVE that about him, god that's such a great quality. oftentimes it is a lot more intelligent to not say a single word more than you absolutely have to, whether you're explaining something or trying to communicate any viewpoint at all.
@bugsymafiaangel but his biggest role was on a show and not the big screen, his roles on the big screen are just character roles,he's not a leading man, he is basically a chracter actor who got lucky with onw role on television....he doesnt really have a good career, he will forever be looked at as Tony no matter what or who he plays
Supressed. Superficial ''stars'' don't see what comes with a talent. A person. I think that he is full of intense emotions and guarding himself of patetic cheapness wich TV and Hollywood produce. Lipton is O.K. He's not showing too much. But Gandolfini, that is a different tipe of actor, more late 60s and 70s, something opposite of Spielbergs blockbuster bullshit and beautifull and empty stars. Living=Acting (Marvin, Borgnine, Bronson, Peckinpah...)
@Corrupt140 suck my balls..maybe he suffers from short-term memory loss....''a deep thinker''.He's a fuckin actor and can mimick anything;you dumb fuck.
Pause anywhere from 8:45 to 9:00, look behind Tony at the two most prominent objects sitting on the shelf behind him, framing him in the shot. Then rewind, un-pause, and listen to what he's saying. The Sopranos runs so deep, on so many more levels than we will ever know and Gandolfini is a master craftsman.
He's not a devoted catholic, in any way. Have you not watched the series? He never goes to confession, he is never in discussion with a priest, he kills, he cheats, he steals. In what way is he a devoted catholic? He's catholic yes to keep up appearances, but in no way devoted to religion.
At 8.23 it gives an insight in which the Italian Mafia was formed, great writing and excellent perfomance by Gandolfini said it with honesty and straight from the heart.
I never saw a better argument against the whole Ellis Island thing than what he says in that last scene. America was allowed to be flooded with people who arn't Americansat heart . No better argument that is than a visit to NYC. Thank god immigration was shut down in the 1930s through 60s.
that last scene, with Lorraine where he's talkin about the way Itialians were introduced to this country and the ways and means by which they had to survive, is one of those scenes that turned me into an IMMEDIATE fan of James and the show. Im a black male..and everything he said in that scene, resonated with me as it pertains to the haves and havenots. Lorraine, did an EXCELLENT job of listening there, to give the scene weight..and James, blew the roof off expressing his "every man" rage.
@MisterCrazyLegs EXCEPT you can't equate yourself to Italians... the Italians actually had a civilization before America: scientists, architects, artists, sculptors, merchants, philosophers, warriors for hundreds of years... and THEY can speak about a code of honor.
.
While american negroes would still be rolling in mud, unable to grasp anything more advanced than a hut pieced together with feces and straw (like it was for centuries) if the white man didnt buy them from other negro slave traders
@fullfist .....apparently, you know very little about African history, as well as Black history. Do your research before you start speakin about shit, you know NOTHING about.
I'm a jewish male? and because Tony wanted to cut a cock to some jew, i don't turn into an IMMEDIATE fan of this a very good actor. You know, it's called satire? and everything depend on your sense of humor - to resent or laugh.
It's funny that Lipton is asking him if he knows what it feels like to be in a therapy room, and I could almost hear Gandolfini saying "Yeah... like right here". Cause I swear there's something about Lipton's style that feels almost like being in therapy :)
Thankyou chongmaster....gandolfini is a force...but epitimises the 'gentle giant', looking forward to seeing 'where the wild things are' but would really love to see him in the flesh - can anyone reccommend anything? Cheers..
yeah the end of season 2 got really good, especially when he gets food poisoning and starts having those fucked up dreams. so much to interpret and think about well watching those scenes. the fact that he was on a boardwalk, the fact that it was snowing in spring, they were all there on a bench, pussy was staring into the ocean
Lipton has his agenda, no respect for others integrity.....in the end he resorted to humiliating Gandolfini by letting him running the show, mimicing his speach pattern. On the flip side Gandolfini took the hard way, when you meet an a-hole like that just go with the flow, let him take the wheele. His rich....
Great explanation of Tony; nothing left and searching. My own further take: Tony is a psychopath that doesn't realize he's a psychopath. He believes he is searching for deeper meaning to relieve his suffering but it can't be found b/c as a psychopath, the only relief is violence.
