  • Anything above an f sharp 3 ledger lines above the staff is screaming. That's where the fingerlings stop and is the end of the range of the horn, but not necessarily the end of the range of the player, similar to pedal notes.

  • Comment removed

  • i got a question. a double g is consider screaming right? or is it a double c?

  • @Trrncwilliamson I would say screaming starts at a normal high G above second ledger line C. Then anything from then on up to the double C then the double G is screaming.

  • There's a difference between hitting the notes and playing the notes

  • also the only thing a mouthpiece really does is tweak the tone and comfort a little bit, it doesn't empower you with screamer abilities magically, most of those fundamentals are developed with the air stream and can easily be developed with some practice playing long tones in various registers.

  • Please listen guys. Use the right mouthpiece for the job. There is NO such thing as a cheater mouthpiece and this appears to be urban myth spread round high schools.

It's your own ability, not the lump of metal stuck in the trumpet.

  • @jsmish1967 exactly, there are certain mouthpieces which are good tools for lead trumpet playing, they produce a brighter tone and are ideal for that kind of performance, while others have a deep, rich, dark sound which work well for resonant orchestral music. All mouthpieces are, are tools to modify the sound. There is no cheater mouthpiece, in the real world players select mouthpieces which work well to produce the kind of sound they want.

  • yup yup. i play on a warburton when playing concert music, and a bobby shew lead when playing jazz, cause i'm a screamer. i can scream on either one, i jst get better sound and more stamina on my screamer, cause it fits to the lips better for that register. it's not the mouthpiece, rofl

don't say it's the mouthpiece, you're only making yourself look ignorant in front of other trumpet players XP

  • what did u say??

    that was a cheat mouthpiece??

it's just a denis wick mouthpiece booster..

    booster is like an intensifier..

that was not a cheat.. ill prove u guyz.. i'll use yamaha 6a4a mouthpiece.. just w8 me .. ill post my own video here.. don't think like i'm cheating.. ü

  • mouthpiece smouthpiece, unless you play trumpet nobody knows or cares about what different mouthpieces can do. as long as the notes are played

  • OMG..."IT WOULD BE SO GOOD IF YOU COULD HIT THAT ON A REGULAR MOUTHPIECE (3C)"

Seriously, grow up. EVERYONE who is all...oh...he didn't really do it...he has a cheater mouthpiece. Try a Bach 3C or 1C or whatever. Dudes...he played it. Who cares what mouthpiece it's on. Mouthpieces are designed to FIT YOUR LIPS. Which is why some people just can't play on shallow or deep or big or small mouthpieces. I play on a smaller mouthpiece, but it sounds a whole lot better for me, then on a bigger one.

  • I cant stand when people complain about mouth piece size. Its equipment, you use a certain mouth piece size depending on what type of music youre playing. Its a bit impractical to be playing jazz and screaming really high notes with a 3 c or below fatigue will come quickly. If you're playing classical a 3 c or bigger is more useful how ever you arent going to see as many screamer notes in classical

  • Exactly. I say if you can fill seats at your concerts then who the heck cares what kind of mouthpiece you use

  • What's a good mouth piece for a person whos had a trumpet for 1 year and wants to scream?

  • @bobby1829387 1 YEAR!!

I've been playing for 3 and have not even dwelled on screaming. Get better in regular music and then you will see yourself getting better. By the way use an 11B4, It extended my range 10 fold

  • @japhy0420 not just an 11B4. Anything with a deeper cup when worked on, especially working on flexibility and control, with help your range.

  • @wannaplaytrmptjmu Thanks man. I've been playing for 4 years now and the highest note i can play is the E above high C. That's with my 5C. I can play with the Schilk 12 I have high F or G. Nothing double high or anything. You'll get start to get better eventually, I've found.

  • Ah that explains why i'm light headed after I play a Double C with my 3c o.O

  • HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!

    You're my hero!!!!

  • he really hit a triple high g!!

  • I can hit that on my on my 1 1/4 Mouthpiece

  • haha your sound first is very bad.

nice to play that but it doesn't impress me. If I would just train my high range.. ^^

  • im mad he had the lip strength to slur all the way to that note

  • it will be good if you could do it on a regular mouthpiece (3C)

  • take that newbie

  • WOW

  • that's an octave above a double G...

  • wow is all i got to say

  • that was awesome the highest i ever got was a double a

  • HOLY SHEET

  • ...that's cool and all.. but what's the point? who wants to listen to that? by the way, don't kill me I'm just putting it out there

  • i c ur point....but i still wanna be able to shut some underclassmen up with this kind of skill... =]

  • Your gonna blow up your stomach out their dude take it easy impresive..

  • Oh my freaking god. just when i thought he was done he went up another step. all i can do is aokdfgvjo afjvaodfgfadkoogavodnfgdfcakfko

  • how do you do that

  • that didnt' sound like squeaking to me. the air doesn't drop after you release from a squeak. it obviously means he was using technique and not squeaking

  • That's great.

Now play something that sounds good.

  • come on use that extra bit of pressure and get triple high C!!!

  • haha gotta love bad advice! :)

  • what Kind of mputhpiece do you use a "7E"?

  • Nice work jazzband and trumpet38416 lol.

  • Now let's try it again with some breath support and some intonation, okay?

  • those were just a bunch of squeaks

  • lets see you do better.

  • why would I want to post a video of me playing a bunch of squeaks?

  • Man your just jealous and immature, and your the perfect example of the trumpet player stereotype. Of course youd like to post a video of yourself playing that high, but unfortunately you dont have the chops, and your mad he does.

  • what makes you think I play trumpet?

  • Bahaha You said you worked out of Patrick Hessions book, and with Patrick himself no less. Yes, I know trumpetaphone15, and I saw your comment on his video. Make up your mind and quit bullshitting man. Besides, 99 percent of people who cry squeak are other jealous trumpet players.

  • lol, you caught me. nevertheless, I am not jealous of squeaks. it's just that Pat always said that they weren't "real" notes and I am just passing along the information.

  • Good job. I can't get my range anywhere above double C... blah.

  • what mouthpiece did you use?

  • Come on folks, it's great. He does it with pure technique, starting with a low C and without resetting his embouchure. No cheating. The highest notes will grow in volume and he'll have a triple soon, unless I miss my guess;)

  • holy crap, dude. That was awesome

  • well, i dont think that counts at all in my opinion, you got up to mabye a high E, then it just sounded like squeeks

  • that sounded pretty good, but it also sounded like he was squealing it, and not really putting any air thru..

  • yeah...there wasnt much power behind that

  • If you wanna see relax on high trumpet, check out englebright. poppin out double d's like its playing a d in the staff...no pressure

  • heh heh double d's

    seriously tho that was intense.

  • That was really good. The highest I've heard. I really like how he keeps a good tone and looks so relaxed. He's not squeezing.

  • Excellent stuff. I've been 'learning' trumpet for a short time and i'm amazed anyone can get that high. My range cuts off about an octave below that :) By the way, why are there no trumpet tutorial videos on youtube?

  • Its very nice to hear the trumpet soar well above it's "standard" range and it is rather clear jazzband isn't trying to go pro and to just attack him about his tone is a rather shameful act. We should just be happy there are trumpet players who are trying to make a real attempt at the extreme high register.

  • it is a little sqeezed....

  • i see kids saying shit about good tone. no its too "laser thin"...it'd be way more impressive if it was a FAT DOUble C. Blue Devils 2004. Check otu that show. THAT":S A FAT double C

  • dude i dont give a crap what the other guys have said. That in my opinion was pretty badass, and i think they are just pissed to watch a vid of someone doing it besides them. Are you using the "super chops" method? because i have a book on it and am considering trying it out. ps written by jason

  • hell as a saxophone player...i'll suffice squeezing out a double g on a trumpet...squeezing out a double c for a good 2 secs is good enough for me,

yeah whatever its not real musicianship...but hell it feels pretty badass

  • Bah, anyone can do that. If I can do that anyone can. lol

  • ok man i can see where u goin....... but wat is that gonna do u when u in a big band playin some rough tone and u wanna play that high and cut throu the band?? cause that wont cut throu cake, you didnt hit the note u squeezed it out.......

if you have enough hittin up there itll cut through

on next clip pay close attention to the yellow caped section http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMG7vjwZiOM

  • dam thats all i got to say

  • awsome man nice tone, very good use of air. you looked very comfy and relaxed. nice horn b the way:).

  • It's great...The tone is fine, its about as good as it can get being that high. If somebody can do it better, please feel free to post it.

  • thank you people for not supporting fake high notes that wouldnt be audible while playing with a group and no mic : )

  • its not a G or any note because it has no distinguished tone. but still thats pretty cool

  • Maynard F. plays with mics most of the time, and has been playing high for many years. those double notes sound great without the instrumental microphones most use. even cat anderson played with microphones guys. (instrumental mics, not computer/camera mics...) people who say "next time play with tone" are not upper lead players (tone just equals volume up there) is he on a laskey?

  • if you are saying maynard only had huge sound because he was mic'd you are way wrong. I stood next to Patrick Hession in his house while he played Danny Boy and trust me, he sounded just as powerful as he does with the mic.

  • Maynerd F. Could school this guy.

  • ya know that joke about the trumpet player man it takes three to screw in a light bulb on to do it on to watch and one to say he can do it better

  • doooood...ouch

  • That was weak, try it with more AMP and try to go higher

  • cmon thats cool...i cant even hit a solid double c

  • lol yeah tone... still cool though.

  • Next time try it with tone

  • you can see more on the http://perso.wanadoo.fr/olympicbiut/
