the sample is from the 1969 film "2001: A Space Odyssesy" by Stanley Kubrick, a flippin awesome film. The sample is the ships computer "HAL" talking to the last remaining astronaut (he's killed everyone else) after locking him outside the space ship. When "Dave" asks "Open the pod bay door HAL...", HAL basically says "no, you're f'd" in a much more polite way. The computer thought that humans would endanger the mission due to our inherent flaw: humans make mistakes.
whoever likes this bass/ saxophone sound should really check morphine, because this song is either a tribute or a rip off of morphine very particular sound. Before gomez fans jumps at me i'd like to point out that i am myself a gomez fan
@ColeTaylorManson try "you speak my language" or "all wrong" but to be honest most of their song has that basic sound about it. i agree the begining does remind of national anthem by radiohead which happens to be my favorite band
Gotta say dude, the morphine songs don't sound that similar. Unlike The National Anthem, which seemed to be completely ripped off by Gomez. Even the saxophone parts sounds the same, just at different moments.
@ColeTaylorManson if you expected the tune to "sound" the same notes for notes you simply didn't understand what i said, i am talking about the style, the general sound. have you ever heard any other band with so distinct a sound of bass and sax, their whole style is based on that and it does predates both gomez and radiohead by a good decade
@ColeTaylorManson listen dude i was just trying to make people discover a band they might like, you obviously are here to show how very clever you are and start arguments with whoever might be writting anything on youtube, so you carry on like that and leave me the fack alone
My bad, I didn't realize I was coming of as confrontational, I actually wasn't trying to start an argument, I just didn't understand what song you mean at first, then I didn't think they sounded similar.
Now that you mention it, it does have a bit of the same driven guitar and also has a sax- still the songs are completely different. Love both songs though. Gomez opened with this track at the show i saw last week- fab
Sound terribly out of whack with the video.

Which song? I know it sounds remarkably similar to Radiohead's National Anthem.

You're right, I am struggling to understand. It seems that you think any band that has similar bass or uses saxophones are ripping them off?
