Dare I say it? This was a Crowning Moment of Awesome for "Doctor Who" PERIOD. I've always maintained that, if they hadn't continued, "Pandorica/Big Bang" would have been a spectacular finale. And this was easily The Doctor's shiniest of shiny moments.

Sans the pandorica part, the belief that'll only buy 'em half an hour, and the nauseated quip about Romans, sounds like a reply of Christ's to the demonic when we're standing in faith about all the times He ever put them to shame, while He's ever living to make intercession for us, since that's not solely intercession that's towards Father; sounds like His rant about having been given all authority in heaven and earth, a reminder of their trembling at His Name.

You have to remember that at maybe a third of his current age that he previously had possession of "The Key To Time," so not hard to see how he would have honestly thought this was another situation like that & brazenly told every single villian imaginable what they could do with their plans ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Had I had some of the same experiences, might of pulled the same kind of Patton spiel with daring 'em to take the kill.

Ravings of a madman IF IT WERE ANYBODY ELSE! roflol Most ballsy thing I've seen in all of the, perhaps hundreds of episodes of Doctor Who I've seen over the last nearly 3 decades. This is like the scene with the dismissing of the Atraxi that's worth watching into the millions of times! lol Can't wait to see what's pt. 2, since my area's only just getting to see these on local television, for the very first time! Episode sorta closed on a Samson note where his enemies were sealing their own doom!

This whole scene signifies the exact reason why I love Doctor Who,and let me tell you why.

The Doctor is one man,one man who has no weapons.All he has is an old blue box with a broken chameleon circuit, and a pen-size sonic device which don't count for much.

But what he DOES have-and I hope everybody is listening-is an unwavering, and absolutely positive belief that all his actions, ALL his actions will count towards saving every single life in this universe.

And he stands there, and he does it.

I guess you have to be a really big fan of this show to enjoy this,? I have not been able to connect with Doctor Who of any regeneration period, so this speech is a little too flary and cheesy for my tastes. You can't blame my friends for trying at least.

Although for some people it just doesn't work. Maybe you're one of them. No problem there.

@Wade2st A reasonable comment! People like you do exist :O. I did give it a try here and there. Saw certain episodes that people said that if you liked them, you'd like the show like "Blink." It's just a world apart for me. Things like "Star Trek" and "Stargate SG-1" were more of my style. ot the first Star Trek though. Too old style for me.

Only on Doctor who would find the most awesome time traveller there ever was delivering one of the most epic speeches there ever was while standing in the middle of stonehenge surrounded by Roman soldiers with a billion alien ships swarming the planet ready to kill him on sight. It was a good speech, and Smith did it brilliantly, but, I think this is the point in sries 5 when the recent departure of Tennant is most obvious. That speech was clearly written for Tennant. Imagine the power of seeing his Doctor, after all he went through in his time, saying "I AM TALKING!!" and scaring off those ships like that.

Smith did well, but if Tennant had done that speech it would have increased its impace 10 fold :)

Ah well, I guess we have differing opinions on this. I'm just trying to lay out that Smith was still very much new to the role when he did this. We hadn't seen him loose friends, defeat enemies, and slowly have his past catch up with him, like we did for the 10th Doctor. Just imagine it, 10, after all HE has been through as an individual character, just stop and go "Alright, I've let you have your fun, but SHUT UP NOW, because I've had enough.".
