  • wtf this takes all beliveablity out of the film so an alien has landed, why oh WHY did there need to be another one?

  • @Zanmatt2g you totally missed the point of the video... listen to the music, if you're familiar with Star Wars, the theme music for Yoda slips in here. I think it's a lot of fun because it shows the sense of humor of Spielberg and John Williams with that little nod :D

  • @nebulan

did u even understand my comment i didnt even say the yoda theme wasn't there

  • E.T. phones Yoda

  • The theme at the beginning sounds a little bit like Jabba's.

  • What the hell is this?!

  • @TheStarwarsnerd3 As a star wars nerd I'm disappointed you aren't as amused as I am that Yoda's theme music made it into the blockbuster hit E.T. ;)

  • Interesting!

    I never noticed before!

  • E.T. in The Phantom Menace

  • This is what you call breaking the fourth wall. And a nod from Steven to his good pal, George.

  • yeah et left to this galaxy and didn't return to his galaxy till return of the jedi

  • i remember when I first saw this movie, I was about 5 or so, and I've been a huge star wars fan since i was 2 (still am of course <3). i loved the Yoda thing, but back then, I didn't catch the short lil music score. that's pretty awesome that during the song, they threw it in there

  • Theme of yoda starts at 0:33

  • I haven't seen ET since I was a kid... I kind of wish I'd seen this part in a re-viewing sometime in the future, it would have been even funnier! But even seeing it in this short clip had me laughing out loud at Wiliams' cleverness.

  • haha

  • E.T. lives in the same Galaxy as Yoda

  • yeah, right at the end. Of course it was done on purpose though, since Yoda is right there.

  • "Home! Home! Home!"

  • OMG!... I never noticed that before!

  • Now we know that ET comes from Dagobah and after his comeback begun a political career. LMAO!!

  • Is E.T. crying out the word "Yoda"?

  • "Home"

  • @nebulan Makes sense now. In Episode 1 of the Star Wars prequels, a there's a senate platform full of little ET's.

  • @nebulan Because the universe is a rather small place among filmmakers, as Steven Spielberg said in an interview.

  • @nebulan Yoda: "Look like a taxi driver, do I?"

  • @gottu4 he is saying "home,home,home,home,home"

  • Hah thats great! I must have missed that part before. Thanks for posting

  • The next star wars should be now, in our galaxy.

  • In Wookieepedia, it states that ET spceies can be seen in Phantom Menace...

  • which scene?

  • The senate scene where Amidala votes no confidence in Valorum. Look carefully at the bottom of the screen when all the senators start yelling. You can see a few ETs.

  • And the senator from that species is named "Grebleips" ("Spielberg" spelled backwards)

  • @RDarth I wonder who they supported when Palpatine took over?

  • @RDarth they took it out of the tv version i watched the other day, pissed me off loads. remember spotting that when i was like 12

  • @vaderLP It's true, I thought I was seeing things when I first saw them. They're three of them.

  • That kid on here(Can't remember his name)he had Star Wars Vintage Figures Boba Fett and Greedo

  • @jediking12 Yes, Elliot had all of those Star Wars action figures in his room that he was showing ot E.T. Also, there's a scene where Elliot's older brother comes back from football practice, and when he's in Elliot's room while Elliot swears him to secrecy about E.T., his brother talks in Yoda's voice. Several Star Wars references in the E.T. movie.

  • Yeah at the last few seconds you could definitely hear it - note for note. However, John Williams takes a lot of melodies and harmonies from other classical composers too. When CEPO is in the desert in Chap IV, that's Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, and the dissonant chord in Chap4 where the ship is flying over at the beginning, right out of Holst's The PLanets - can't recalll which one though.

  • Williams does "borrow" from lots of sources. This work, "Yoda's Theme", is extremely similar to the Supreme Court music from "Talk of the Town", a 1942 movie starring Cary Grant. It's here on Youtube - "Talk of the Town 5" at around the 50 second mark.

  • this movie was made my last year of triggertreating. that was when the leaves were thick and had real colors and you could smell them and the air.

  • EEEEEEEEETTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hahah

  • John Williams is a musical genius, undoubtedly.

  • OHHHH

    SPINE TINGLING!!!!

  • I got chills :)

  • okay im gonna sound like a super nerd...but when I was younger I watched this movie like maybe 4 times a day, actually studying it, and also watched and studied star wars when mind you...I was like 5 hahaha...so much that I noticed this and even the music and watched the star wars trilogy very closely looking for ET's race, i know...i know...but hey, now im a film and television writer so I guess it sorta payed off...

    nope still a nerd lol

  • they actually say that E.T is like a jedi or like highly gifted with the force, but it must be long after yoda is dead because didnt star wars happen a long time ago in a galaxy far far away lol

  • but if e.t. came from star wars universe, he must've seen humans like luke and han, yet he was pretty surprised upon seeing humans

  • I always found the words 'a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away' was from the storytellers perspective, not ours. Since right after comes the story text with the music...

  • ET is just a young baby alien... He probaly never saw humans before...

  • according to the story, he's an alien scientist, a botanical. His curiosity is the same of a scientist's.

  • jajajajajjaja homeeee homeeeee! jajajjaa

  • E.T. was probably going "Yo,it's Oldman Yoda! Whatchoo doing in this part of the Universe? Can you belive this No Hyperspace crap?"

  • lol!!Yoda and E.T.!!

  • It was a message to the guy who made Star Wars movies, As a hidden message. :D

  • great scene

  • awesome

  • ET is more powerfull than Yoda.

  • its always cool when music composers put other ppl or other composistions into their musicc lol

  • John Williams wrote Yoda's theme and the music to E.T.

  • well wait a minute if E.T. recognized Yoda, would that say we're also involved with the qoute unqoute "star wars universe" ? i mean couldn't luke skywalker come to Planet Earth in the Milky Way Galaxy??

  • this made a lot more sense when episode 1 came out lol. The ETs are definately in Star Wars. in fact Han Solo was undercover as the principal in a deleted scene. Theres a club in Shang hai called "Club Obi Wan" that Indiana Jones liked to frequent til he had to jump out a window. And lightsabers are powered by batteries, but Darth Vader made an error and didn't use Elkeseltzer. Dark Side indeed. damn bunny got away

  • yeh they are from the same universe, in what of the starwars films you actually see a bunch of ET's LOL

  • Exactly! After all this years and the prequel of SW being made into movies did we really understood why E.T. is so amazed of seeing Yoda. Yoda was a icon in all the galaxies including the one E.T. belongs!

  • ET recognized the yoda race from the galactic republic.

various ets are seen in episode 1 at the senate meeting!

  • Good eye, I saw that too.

  • You really have to look out for them. I didn't even know they were there lol

  • George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are funny guys aren't they? lol

  • Lol - when he sees Yoda, the melody is playing...

I don't remember that i've noticed that watching the film.

John Williams seems to like "playing" with his Music... :-)

  • it you go to wookieepedia it says how e.t. ties in with starwars

  • LOL Yoda!! This is one funny scene. Hahaha

  • i love ET infact im watching it now on the internet lol and i also love short circuit that brill

  • I was like that's Yoda's Theme when I seen that

  • love that part, i think ET was saying, phone home with me. i guess ET and Yoda are from the same planet? Hilarious.

  • haha, that scene was a lot of fun! ET is a great film about a little alien with a big heart. And star wars rules! Can't wait for clone wars!

  • LMFEAO

  • LOL, E.T. recognizes Yoda. Guess this is a small galaxy after all.

  • home home home! looool

  • oh oh that scene makes me pee my pants it so funny lol

  • The kid probably thinks et in the costume is retarded mentally lol

  • I love listening to John Williams and finding themes from different movies entwined into one.

  • ONe of the funniest parts ever!!!

  • lol this is one of the funny parts

  • oh that's kind of nostalgically sweet :-)

  • oh that's kind of nostalgically sweet :-)

  • haha this is a brilliant scene

  • I had the same costume back in 6th grade. Good times.

  • lol

yeah, i read about this, that also in one of the star wars movies they show ET look alikes there in the senate.lol

that it was a joke among Spielberg and Lucas

  • well, it seems expected that George and Steven would make a homage to one another's masterpieces. Steven made this little homage-to-Yoda thingy, and george had an ET-looking species in the phantom menace.

  • yes i have seen in star wars E.T to

  • it's too funny that E.T.actually Recognized Yoda in the first place! are they nieghbors in the same galexy?? lol

  • According to the no-confidence vote scene in Phantom Menace...yes!

  • *GASP* You were Right! i saw Phantom menace last night and i saw the ETs in the scene! i'm mad i missed it before, but it was AWESOME! ^_^

  • What??

  • cute.

  • wow! i had never noticed it

  • You know, when E.T. saw Yoda, it sounded like that E.T. is repeatedly saying "home", as in his home planet or his people.

  • Yeah, its kind of cute how E.T gets excited for a creature that probably looks somewhat similiar to E.T's type.

  • lol Yea, really good movie watchers and fans would've caught this. When i was little i caught it. I love the empire strikes back and return of the jedi so much that i'd recognize that music anywhere, and i found it here.lol thats so cool that its in there. Williams is a genius

  • lol, I never noticed it when I was young, even though I loved both star wars and E.T. I didn't notice it until I was older and just loved it, lol! I wish john williams put more tidbits like this in his movies :D

  • thanks for posting! gotta love jw.

  • thank you so much for posting this, its my favourite part of the movie. lol

  • sure! it's my 2nd av scene with the bike chase as the second :)

  • lol!!!that's friken awesome, i noticed that too while watching

  • lol! I hadn't noticed that.

  • Great ear, man!! I'm a musician and John Williams fanatic, too. Really nice to notice rare (and beautiful) details like that one. Congratulations.

  • I just love John's music :) I wish that he put more of these little tidbits in more movies, I think it's quite amusing :D
