I find the concept fascinating too - here's the short version:

Some stars exploded. Theis madeclouds of gas and dust which felli togther under their own weight. Most of the mass ended up in the sun, and fusion started. The cloud spun as it was drawn together and little lumps in the disc became bigger lumps and then many tiny planets. These hit one another until most merged, but one hit earth about 4.5 billion years ago and half-merged with half ending up in orbit - the moon.

God, I feel kinda small and worthless now. Cos, when you think about it, we're all just these tiny little specks of dust on the surface of the universe, just waiting to get brushed away. Like, if I died tomorrow, there wouldn't be a huge worldwide mourning session. It's just be a little funeral with a few people. There'll be millions of people who don't know I exist. In a hundred+ years, I'll be forgotten. If I'm lucky, I'll get a page on wikipedia that'll last for a while.

Even if there would be a huge worldwide mourning session, what difference would it make? The entirety of the human race is comparatively small to OUR PLANET, let alone the universe.

The only true influence the human race has that matters is on the earth. But on the other hand, if our planet would disappear, what difference would that make to the bigger picture?

It would make a difference because human beings are a form of energy that is completely and utterly different than smoldering mass of hot gas and dust particles.

Do masses of gas and dust have relationships? Do they share love? Are they ever forced to "cooperate in their communities?" Do they have to face the harsh reality of disease, degradation and death while keeping their "hearts" open?

Can they display artistic expression?

No they don't, that is why our size isnt what truly matters

All I was pointing out was how people are concerned with being remembered when in fact there is so much out there that is greater and more complex than what we're even able to perceive.

I am humbled and stand in awe at the expanses of the universe.

In regards to being remembered, I agree that it is a pointless need because of how inconcievable the size of the universe is, even just the size of this planet alone and the billions of real events taking place every second.

One perspective, though, is about wanting to make a difference in the world. To be someone who rose to the challenge of life and committed themselves to the alleviation of human suffering and were remebered for it, you know?
