I don't think there was ever any doubt about the outcome of this series. Ottawa finally came up against a team that played defense, which precious few eastern teams can do. One line teams always lose to teams who play defense. There's no doubt Heatley, Alfredsson and Spezza are great offensive players, but they can be shut down if you know what you're doing. Beyond that, Ottawa had very little scoring, and therefore had no chance in this series.

Ottawa's biggest mistake: putting all their offence in one line. Duck's checking line + N&P defence can easily shut this one line down and not worry about the rest of the Sens who can't score! For this matter, the Sens lack a Canucks-caliber defense and cannot shut down the Ducks offense.

The Perry line dominated Detroit but Perry only played 13 minutes against Ottawa in game one. He set up Getzlaf for his goal so made the difference between winning and losing. I'm afraid Ottawa is toast but I hope they win a few because they deserve that much.

TV Viewer Ratings in March were the highest in US TV history for hockey. I think it was because there were so many tight races and so many good team this year. I mean, the West alone had 7 teams who had a legitimate shot at winning the West. That plus the fact that both NY teams and NJ were in it till the end. Plus, the Crosby/Malkin/Ovechkin phenomenon and the fact that so many Eastern Europeans and Russians are moving here, contributed to the highest TV ratings ever.

The Ducks have only existed 14 seasons. They've been to the playoffs 5 times and the Stanley Cup Finals twice in the last 4 years. Detroit had 50 wins this year and Anaheim had 48. Anaheim played in the much tougher pacific division this year and they play tougher defensive North American hockey. Detroit is more of a European styled team. Anaheim's appearance in the finals is not unexpected.

I commented that Pronger looked flat but gotham is right he did help make Spezza and gang a non event. The Ducks are hard to follow on TV they change lines so often. Reminds me of lacrosse; changing to an offense line as soon as they get the ball but hopefully hockey will not get that stupid. Winning isn't everything to the fans. I'd rather see Perry play 20 minutes than the measly 13 minutes he got in Game one.

Maybe it was their worst game because we are the toughest team you've played yet. The "Shutdown Line" Moen-Pahlsson-Niedermayer held them to four shots on goal. Most came in the final minute. The Senators have not faced a defensive team. Plus anyways the two goals weren't really Giggy's Fault anyways. 1st one went high up into the air and the seccond one Frankie was trying to give back his goal stick, as the shot went off.

Spezza line was the number one scoring line in the NHL because they played against Eastern Conference teams. Anaheim, San Jose, Vancouver, Nashville, Detroit, even Dallas all play better D this year than any Eastern team. Ducks 4th line had their way with the Senators and deserve all the credit for wearing them down. Everyone else was a little flat except Andy MacDonald. Pronger looked like he just got up from his afternoon nap. When Ottawa couldn't contain a fourth line it doesn't look good for their Cup chances.

Pronger was a quiet force in shutting down Ottawa's great 1st line. We wont get that matchup as often on the road in Ottawa and things will be different.
