He better change his hate filled ways or he will stand before Odin on judgement day and have to explain why he rejected Odin. He shall be banished form the gleaming city of Asgard and the heavenly realm of Valhalla.
Hell is sitting in church every week and dying in the pews. Sheol, the word for hell, means the grave and Sheol will be cast into the lake of fire for the second death. It seems like it's only the Antichrist and the false prophet who are tortured day and night, not the people, they die. Our understanding of Hell was brought into christianity with all the other pagan beliefs and rituals, like church attendance.
If hell is such an important issue, why doesn't John MacArthur publicly debate one of the many Christian Universalist scholars who take well informed contrary positions the doctrine of hell? Wouldn't that be a great opportunity for MacArthur to step away from arm-chair theology and give an active and compelling defense of his faith?
Maybe when it comes right down to it, the whole hell doctrine is just not THAT important to MacArthur, or maybe he knows just how debatable it is.
Actually the problem isnt that people "shuv it" out of consciousness. Most people have a hard time not thinking about it, who practice Christianity. In fact, through law of attraction, as a society... we have collectively been concentrating on the concept of hell for over 1,000 years. We are collectively transforming our world into a kind of Hell. What is hell? Stripped of nature... toxic... depression... war... darkness... rock and concrete. Take a good look around you
Because BISEXUALS are the ONLY ones that can CHOOSE between the 2 sexes!
Im pretty sure SOME of the HETEROS wouldnt like to hear the truth about their REAL sexuality and the only way to battle that is by becoming Homophobes.
REAL STRAIGHT PEOPLE are OK with gays cause their SECURE with their sexuality and dont feel threatened by gay people.
The Buddhist view is that there is a Hell and a heaven -Actually quite a number of them. But on the other hand there isn't a God that judges you- it is only your actions from which you are judged. Steal something -go to prison (Hell) Give something -be rewarded with kindness back and even an award. Actions - YOURS makes the universe operate. Good actions bring good results and Bad actions bring Hellish results. It is up to you. So be good and start today! Ha Ha.
Your only doing exactly what John MacArthur just said in saying he'll isn't real dude. Of course hell is real. Do you really think a good God would turn a ins eye on rape and murder? Of course not. In fact He's so good He will also condemn liars thieves and fornicators. Repent and trust in Christ.
Love never fails. God will never fail. If He truly loves people, He wouldn't torture them for all of eternity. Love & eternal torment cannot go together. God is just, yes, but He is not cruel.
1 Tim 4:10- This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
1 John 2:2- He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
HELL IS REAL!!! God will judge man by His Law. If we have lied, stolen, hated someone, looked with lust, had sex outside of marriage, used profanity, etc., we are guilty and in danger of eternal punishment in hell when we die. However, God made a way out. Christ came from heaven to take our punishment on Himself and die on a cross.Three days later He rose from the dead and now commands us to turn from sin and trust in Him. See my video titled“Solemn Warning: 5 Types of People Headed for Hell"
@EvangelizeYourWorld Sounds like another great reason NOT to have children. Why would you bring an innocent child into a "fallen" world where the odds are that that child may spend Eternity in Hell ? Because according to your bible , "many take the wide road".
@MrBeautifulba1 If you combine selfrightouse pride with false interpretation of scripture, hate, fear, thirst for vengence, blind ego and spark the pharistical engine with a religiouse spirit. You get a hell believer. A christian who truly believes in a hell of eternal torture and brings children into this world are the most selfouse ppl on earth. According to scripture and Pauls letters, the doctrine of hell is a church made lie to create control and wealth through fear.
HAHA. An eternity in hell is not just for 60-90 years of sinning. Makes no fuckn sense. Also, the only people who believe in hell are those who think they are going to heaven. There self righteousness proves them otherwise. I might add that hell as a place is not even in the old testament. Hell as "a grave" is. Heaven is being resurrected immortal again with christ i. So hell is a christian invention. Orthodox Jews do not even believe in hell cause it is not in the old testament.
@1122stardust Hell is in the Old Testament, have you read it? Because its called Hades in the Old Testament, Hell is real, God created it for the sinful ungodly. Those who are unbelievers don't believe in Hell because they think they can ignore it and escape judgement, they turn away from light lest their deeds be exposed, judgement will come at the Day of the Lord and the only way to escape the Wrath of God is to seek Jesus Christ, who is God and came to save those who believe in him from him
@kewlazpewp Sorry. Look up shoel and hades they simply mean grave. Not an eternal place. Christians invented the place hell. Also Jews never believed in it, so it had to come from christians. Also God cant die, so it is impossible for jesus to actually die for sins. Jesus' flesh may have died, but the god in jesus cant. So the atonement is flawed. Thus christianity fails....
@1122stardust God cannot die, true. This was Anne Rice's accusation (before she converted), that Jesus' death was a fake - a costless pinprick to an omnipotent God. Do you really think, however, that the price that the 2nd member of the Trinity paid on the cross was a mere physical death? Nope, it was far worse than that - and that is why it is efficacious. The wrath of a Holy God poured out on the Son - God was earning the right to speak to us by suffering with us.
@quakerman7 If christ died in our place he must go to hell forever cause we were going there originally. If he takes our place than that means receiving gods wrath AND going to hell forever. That would be just. yet jesus GETS OUT of that predicament later. NOT JUST!! Also, Jesus doing our work for us makes us NOT responsible for our sins. This is not moral. Jesus is our scapegoat!! Sorry, humans are not weak. God gave us the ability to do want he wants. He does not need to hold our hands!!!!
@1122stardust Going to have a hard time responding to this. Your model here is something, but not Christianity, so I'm at a bit of a loss. If you are watching youtube videos about hell, my recommendation is to watch a wide variety across a range of theological spectra. I also recommend reading 'The Shack' by WIlliam P Young - a man loses his daughter to a serial killer then spend a weekend talking to the Trinity. It will fix your theology and your eschatology. Hell was never about punishment.
@1122stardust A second response. Who says that Jesus has 'gotten out of hell'? Now, you might be thinking, wtf?! But your error here is in thinking that hell is a place. It is not; it is a choice to cut off relationship with God. Jesus, freely, chose to alter his relationship with the Father, and vice versa. This choice was made prior to creation. This 'negotiation,' executed in Time, 'alters' an Unchanging God. This choice becomes a mechanism. This mechanism allows us true Free Will.
@SwordofManticorE If you are speaking of Universalism (all go to heaven no matter what), I would so no. I recommend you listen to Michael Ramsden's lecture 'God of Love: God of Judgement'. Mercy is actually hard for God - in order to extend mercy, the gods of the other religions have to put aside Justice. In Christ, all of God's Justice pours on the Son, and by this mechanism, Mercy is extended. God will honor a person's choice to reject it though.
@quakerman7 So if the world is not saved. Christ is not the saviour of the world. You need to get a better understanding of what the definition of what a saviour is. because according to your beliefs. Christ is the potential saviour of some, let alone the world.
@SwordofManticorE I am under no obligation to accept a strawman definition of 'savior', crafted specifically to drive me into a corner. The only definition I need to take is as depicted in the Scripture, where it shows a God who a) loves each person enough to show up and prove it and, b) will honor the choices of those who give Him the finger and walk away.
@quakerman7 You hell believers throw that strawman everytime a hard qeustion is asked. Your type is so predictable. It is your carnal desires that interprets scripture the way you do. Jesus told us to love our enemies. Does He love His enemies? Will He continue to love His enemies? If He ceases to love His enemies, would that make Him a hypocrite? Did God lose the vast majority of the human race to satan? If so, who is the victore?
@SwordofManticorE It is not a hard question as much as it is an irrelevant question. It is like saying 'why is this orange not like that battleship'. Nonsensical. God will love even his enemies, but, with true love there must be choice. If God forces you to be with Him, then that existence would become monstrous for you. As for Satan, God doesn't 'lose' people to Satan. That implies Satan has any real power and authority. Satan will just be another entity who is cast out from God's presence.
@quakerman7 Well if God gives free choices to His children knowing full well in advance billions of yeays ago of the outcome of those who choose eternal torture and showing no mercy for them. Not only is your image of God a hypocrite, He is iresponsible as well. I am grateful that My God is like the Father in the prodical son parable. BTW, you remind me alot of the older brother in the same parable.
@SwordofManticorE God's knowledge and our Free Will are not incompatible Salvation is not an issue of power but of choice 'Is each member of a loving relationship desiring to grow and expand that relationship.' is the real question. Notice: the Father in the parable did not go out, grab the son by the neck and drag him home As for what you know about me - do you really think you can figure someone out in less than 1000 characters? For example: I still don't know what you are trying to say.
@quakerman7 What I am trying to say is that there is no hell, and that all mankind will be reconciled to God our Father. I am also saying that brother John here is teaching a false doctrin created by the RCC 1600 yrs ago. BTW, the prodical son was covered in filth with the smell of swine on Him. God did not judge or condem his son. Just like Christ did not judge or condem the adulterous. THAT, is true forgiveness and mercy. Something most christians are incapible of doing.
@SwordofManticorE Gosh! that is a lot to get out of one little parable... Universalism. Clearly, you would have to a) allegorize just about the entire NT and, b) ignore the first 3 centuries of church teachings. I suppose that John's separation of sheep/goats imagery 'doesn't really mean that.' Obviously, this is an investigation that cannot be done in YT chat. As fare as what 'most christians' do - are you an expert? have you polled them? or are you generalizing to strengthen your point.
@quakerman7 Quakerman, I like you; but its interesting you mention a straw-man agruement because John MacArthur's whole case here depends on a strawman arguement about why people reject the concept of "hell". Most English translations of the bible do not use the word hell, but John MacArthur and others like him will stay clear of those translations. They can never afford to present the Universalist as an knowledgeable student of the bible.
@gsschoenfeld Hey, long time no hear. I subscribe and occasionally watch your stuff. I have been watching NT Wright recently, and others. It is true, what you say. A better word would be 'Hades', as it is closer to 'Sheol'. Gehenna is analog to 'Hell'. The Bible says that Death and Hades will be thrown into Gehenna - so they cannot be the same. Much confusion over imagery has ensued. The point I've been trying to make: 'God cannot force you to love him. He will let you walk away.'
@quakerman7 Fair enough. I'm not a Universalist myself, but I think their case is at least as good, if not substantially better than the whole "Sinner's in the Hands of an Angry God" theology.
@gsschoenfeld Read 'The Holiness of God' by RC Sproul (1985). It is not a long book - a couple days should do it. The last chapter is called, 'God in the Hands of Angry Sinners.' Really, all of these discussions center around misunderstandings about the word 'Holy' - probably the most difficult concept for us to grasp because it is a foreign word in *every* language. Suffice it to say, if God is not Holy, then none of His other attributes can be guaranteed stable.
@quakerman7 The first 3 centuries of christianity did not teach about eternal torment. They ministered the doctrin of reconciliation of all things back to our Father. The apostel Paul, who btw taught us all what God wants us to know never taught about a place called hell to his listeners. And as for the sheep and goat or wheat and straw. This teaching is the seperation of our carnal nature from our being. Not the rigthouse from the unrightouse. I pity you and you lack of devine sight
@SwordofManticorE One of the things about youtube, is that one gets to watch Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and innumerable denominational views. I was raised a Nazarene, who like many denominations, believe that God's truth wound and turned through 1950 yrs of history to land firmly on their doorstep. The more church history you learn, the harder it is to hold that view. But, beware, the inflow of Gnosticsm happened early and often. 'Divine Sight'... did you mean 'Divine Insight'?
@quakerman7 The reason why they dont believe is because of your dogmatic theology. Let me ask you this. May I have the freedom to believe that all are saved?
@SwordofManticorE Legally, socially, of course. Epistemologically, no. Also, just because you use the word 'dogmatic' (with its negative connotations) doesn't mean I'm wrong. Hermeneutics is the disciple of systematic interpretation. The tendency of people is to start with an emotional position, then twist the scriptures to get it to say what they want. If you can systematically show how the cleanest interpretation of scripture is 'universalism', I'm not convinced it is.
@quakerman7 Epistemologically? Your accusation of me of interpreting scripture based on my emotions may be true, but it is your lack of emotion and love when you interpret scripture that leads you to your dogmatic view. Because I believe and have faith in my Father that He will save all, so shall it be done.
@SwordofManticorE Actually, you have no idea about my emotions. Such cannot be expressed in YT posts, really. Also, saying, 'it is my lack of emotion that leads to dogmatism' is a circular argument. I could say, 'your overemphasis of God's Love over God's Holiness had led you into error, and, your heart has altered your hermeneutics.' It is a dead end street this because it is just finger-pointing. Beware of 'Fideism': 'I believe strongly, therefore it is true.' That way lies Mormonism.
@quakerman7 It is your belief in an eternal hell that exposes your lack of emotion. My belief and faith on my Fathers plan for for all is purely based on my love for all mankind. Love conquers all, or as Rob Bell puts it, love wins.
@SwordofManticorE There is a term from the gaming and role-play sphere called 'God-Moding'. It is when you reach up to your menu and check 'God Mode'. You have unlimited lives, bullets, powers in gaming. In role-play, or in this conversation, 'God-Moding' is when you say, 'I have ultimate power to understand your inner heart and here is what you really believe.' It strips the other person of their heart and their personhood and is a no no. You are God-Moding me. You do not know my heart.
@SwordofManticorE It is begging the question, you know. You say 1) Anyone who believes in an Eternal Hell is lacks emotion. 2) Quakerman7 believes in an eternal hell, therefore 3) Quakerman7 lacks emotion. I challenge point #1. Further, I do not see why my exegesis or hermeneutics needs to be judged as unfit. In a debate, you'd be laughed off the stage the moment you said, 'My opponent does not agree with me, therefore he is an idiot bastard and automatically loses this debate.' Really.
@quakerman7 Ok, let me put it this way. You as a hell believer, must believe that God believes those in eternal torment deserve it, so there for you yourself must also believe that they deserve eternal torment, correct?
@SwordofManticorE It is not my place to judge the decisions of a Holy God. I have 2 theories I like at the moment: 1. NT Wright has an interesting take: that those who choose to no longer be the image-bearers of God dwindle into a pale existence, and, my own: 2. those who reject Go -, He will not demand they stay. Sealed off in their own reality, they will take their selfish powers and make (over time) a proper hell even if they have to start from scratch. God won't have to lift a finger.
@quakerman7 Answered like a true politician with his hand caught in the cookie jar. I dont care to talk with dishonest ppl, so I will leave this talk by saying I hope our heavenly Father gives you the same revelation He has given me and many others. The truth and power of the real good news. God be with you.
@gsschoenfeld Friend this imageof of our Father is no different than the image of babylones image in Dan 3:1-6. Christians teach turn or burn. And when they have scare the hell into a listener enough for him to worship God only to avoid hell, they have made themselves another counterfiet believer. They later say you must love God with all your heart, but these hell believers are in torment because they cant find love for a tyrant who has the power to destoy hell, but wont. cont...
@gsschoenfeld The Universalist does not teach seek hope, we teach that hope is found. The church teaches DO IT, we teach It IS DONE. The church teaches Gods wrath is hell, we teach just as Christ taught, you harvest what you sow in life. We teach that Gods mercy, love and forgiveness is greater than any man can know and that Christ is the exmple of what we are to expect when we all die. The church seperates istself from its brothers while we are all one with God.
@SwordofManticorE Protestant churches also teach 'It is Done/Finished'. Not, Jesus saves you, but then you gotta do good works to 'earn' it. Remember, God is not willing that any should perish. However, God will not force Himself on someone, and He certainly will not require their presence with Him for all eternity. Those who reject Christ do so because, deep down, they think 'God is really a bastard and I hate him.' If they go off all together, away from God, they'll make a hell for themselves.
@gsschoenfeld ...continued. I have been working on an alternative to medieval concepts of Hell. Imagine millions of people who have hated God all their lives being given the option to head off to their own sealed dimension. No flames, no devils, no sulfur. Only them and whatever characters they brought with them. Uh oh... only love of self, no grace, no forgiveness: only a never ending game of 'who's got the power today bitches?'
@BeauG92 LIke I said I can't be ignored you moron. Oh England I should have known. You cowards are nothing but fagots and Godless, moraless pieces of shit. Also you idiot the US government defines marriage as between a man and a woman. What part of that don't you get idiot? Once again GOD himself proclaims you a diseased sinner and abomination. Wasn't your country just under siege by race rioting you piece of garbage?
@21sarajones Sorry but 98% of the UK seems to be Godless fags etc.. That's just a reality I've noticed in my inbox and on my videos. I do apologize to you.
The Bible does not teach eternal punishment. God’s love & mercy endures forever. Does it really endure forever or only in this life? How can it be Good News if it doesn’t translate to the afterlife? God will still judge but He will not punish forever. He’s a better father than we are, right?
1 Tim 4:10 This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
@BeauG92 I don't have evidence? i used tonnes of scripture to back up my point, you used none.... says a lot about you and your relationship with scripture...
Hell is not a separation from God; it is the the fiery existence of nothing but God purifying your soul and redeeming you. It is not the end but the great purification of all that was evil and sinful in your life. God made the lake of fire it is not separate from him. The competitiveness in church teaches us to look at it as us vs. them, but we are all God's children rescued by the grace and mercy of a beautiful savior that loves all. Romans 11:32 This was the plan all along. God is love!
@gtmj45 Everything you've just said is heresy and is found no where in the bible. and you've quoted Romans 11:32 out of context.
Hell does not make better, hell is the infinite wrath of God. There are many places in scripture to back that up and not one to back up your point.
Stop deceiving yourselves and others. Hell is the fierce wrath of Almighty God and now while you still have breath is the time for salvation but If you die in your sins, you will have no hope.
@HackerzInc You say I'm a heretic so quickly and that I am taking the scripture out of context. In Romans 11:32- ALL does mean all whether it is ALL that are disobedient or ALL that receive mercy. Read on then to Romans 11:33-35 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments,AND HIS PATHS BEYOND TRACING OUT! I would encourage you to stop studying the notes on the page and listen to the symphony all around you. God is better than you think he is.
John Mac preaches that you have to change and then Jesus will accept you. It is a message based on the premise that if you torture someone long enough with the fear of hell, they will change. I hope God desires us to come to him with all our garbage and sins and love us in spite of our sins through Christ. Grace and Love transforms. Fear and shame only breeds and spreads fear and shame.
@lucasboden You're wrong, he doesn't preach that. He preaches if you are really saved, you will not continue to live in sin. Salvation isn't a ticket to continue sinning, except knowing that you won't go to hell. It is reconciliation to God, in order to truly and freely worship, love, and serve Him. Jesus was not a hippy in a field of unicorns and daisies preaching free love. He came to reconcile us to God, to save us from sin, which is the purpose of salvation, not so that we can feel loved.
@Brynnium - "He preaches if you are really saved, you will not continue to live in sin" So next time you find yourself having LUST IN THE HEART, do you question your salvation?
@lucasboden No, you're totally wrong. If you happen to have one of his study Bibles, or if you even look on GTY website, you will find that what the term "living in sin" refers to is a constant, habitual unborken pattern of sinning, not a sin. And because you will say this, yes, John MacArthur, as well as the Bible, affirms that Christians do sin, just not in an unbroken pattern as with sinners. Jesus freed us from the slavery of sin.
@Brynnium - And according to John Mac, habitual unbroken pattern of sinning refers mainly to homosexuals, liberals, pedophiles, barack obama, muslims. Rich Republican Christian? No.
@lucasboden If you know what sin is, do that habitually and you have what he is talking about. He is virtually silent politically, except for the practices, policies, and theological liberals, which may be what you speak of, that are clearly unbiblical. If the implication is that he is an opinion-toting bigot, you are misguided.
@Brynnium - He has called Obama a non-christian publically. That is not politically silent. I have no problems if he disagrees with someone's politics or theology; however, he is very self-righteous to say that someone is a non-christian. Note: Politically I support Ron Paul and I am not a fan of Obama, but would never call someone who says they are a christian a non-christian because I disagree with them on issues.
@lucasboden It is not issues that he disagrees with him on (I've seen that video). He criticizes the Bible, and when you pair that with other videos of his speeches where he references the koran as "holy," it is justified to wonder whether or not he is a christian. He attends church only several times per year, and criticizes the Bible, and he is in favor of unbiblical policy. His love for Jesus can be questioned. I understand where you're coming from, though.
This is what the LORD says about burning people JEREMIAH32:35 and they built the high places of BAAL, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto MOLECH; WHICH I COMMANDED THEM NOT, NEITHER CAME IT INTO MY MIND, THAT THEY SHOULD DO THIS ABOMINATION...Im learning at the moment what HELL, TORMENT, EVERLASTING, FOREVER, means in the scriptures, and so far, Im not finding people burning for all eternity...could be wrong tho.
@jvsm1971 Mt 25:41, 46 "Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the *eternal fire* which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 46 These will go away into *eternal punishment*, but the righteous into eternal life.”
@Br Thanks for ur text. Revelation 20:14-15 And DEATH &HELL were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. This would mean that death and hell no longer exist. It is over. No longer continuing. "Hell"... the word means "sheol" (grave) or "Gehenna" (a perpetual unquenchable burning rubbish dump @Jerusalem that would not stop burning the rubbish until it had burnt everything away nothing remaining).
@ReligionFreeDeist Well, you would be incorrect, then. John MacArthur does not love the fact that people are going to hell, he abhors it. Hell is the place where all who reject Christ and the life-saving, frredom-bringing message of his gospel will go for eternity. You don't have to go there. Receive Jesus Christ, confes with your mouth "Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead and you will be saved!" Romans 10:9-11

@1122stardust
Jesus talked about hell more than He did Heaven, of course hell is real. There is no point in pretending like it doesn't exist, why risk it?
1776iscoming 3 months ago
@1122stardust God cannot die, true. This was Anne Rice's accusation (before she converted), that Jesus' death was a fake - a costless pinprick to an omnipotent God. Do you really think, however, that the price that the 2nd member of the Trinity paid on the cross was a mere physical death? Nope, it was far worse than that - and that is why it is efficacious. The wrath of a Holy God poured out on the Son - God was earning the right to speak to us by suffering with us.
quakerman7 1 month ago
@quakerman7 If christ died in our place he must go to hell forever cause we were going there originally. If he takes our place than that means receiving gods wrath AND going to hell forever. That would be just. yet jesus GETS OUT of that predicament later. NOT JUST!! Also, Jesus doing our work for us makes us NOT responsible for our sins. This is not moral. Jesus is our scapegoat!! Sorry, humans are not weak. God gave us the ability to do want he wants. He does not need to hold our hands!!!!
1122stardust 4 weeks ago
@1122stardust Going to have a hard time responding to this. Your model here is something, but not Christianity, so I'm at a bit of a loss. If you are watching youtube videos about hell, my recommendation is to watch a wide variety across a range of theological spectra. I also recommend reading 'The Shack' by WIlliam P Young - a man loses his daughter to a serial killer then spend a weekend talking to the Trinity. It will fix your theology and your eschatology. Hell was never about punishment.
quakerman7 4 weeks ago
@1122stardust A second response. Who says that Jesus has 'gotten out of hell'? Now, you might be thinking, wtf?! But your error here is in thinking that hell is a place. It is not; it is a choice to cut off relationship with God. Jesus, freely, chose to alter his relationship with the Father, and vice versa. This choice was made prior to creation. This 'negotiation,' executed in Time, 'alters' an Unchanging God. This choice becomes a mechanism. This mechanism allows us true Free Will.
quakerman7 4 weeks ago
@quakerman7 So tell me brother. If Christ is the saviour of the world, is the world saved?
SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE If you are speaking of Universalism (all go to heaven no matter what), I would so no. I recommend you listen to Michael Ramsden's lecture 'God of Love: God of Judgement'. Mercy is actually hard for God - in order to extend mercy, the gods of the other religions have to put aside Justice. In Christ, all of God's Justice pours on the Son, and by this mechanism, Mercy is extended. God will honor a person's choice to reject it though.
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 So if the world is not saved. Christ is not the saviour of the world. You need to get a better understanding of what the definition of what a saviour is. because according to your beliefs. Christ is the potential saviour of some, let alone the world.
SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE I am under no obligation to accept a strawman definition of 'savior', crafted specifically to drive me into a corner. The only definition I need to take is as depicted in the Scripture, where it shows a God who a) loves each person enough to show up and prove it and, b) will honor the choices of those who give Him the finger and walk away.
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 You hell believers throw that strawman everytime a hard qeustion is asked. Your type is so predictable. It is your carnal desires that interprets scripture the way you do. Jesus told us to love our enemies. Does He love His enemies? Will He continue to love His enemies? If He ceases to love His enemies, would that make Him a hypocrite? Did God lose the vast majority of the human race to satan? If so, who is the victore?
SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE It is not a hard question as much as it is an irrelevant question. It is like saying 'why is this orange not like that battleship'. Nonsensical. God will love even his enemies, but, with true love there must be choice. If God forces you to be with Him, then that existence would become monstrous for you. As for Satan, God doesn't 'lose' people to Satan. That implies Satan has any real power and authority. Satan will just be another entity who is cast out from God's presence.
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 Well if God gives free choices to His children knowing full well in advance billions of yeays ago of the outcome of those who choose eternal torture and showing no mercy for them. Not only is your image of God a hypocrite, He is iresponsible as well. I am grateful that My God is like the Father in the prodical son parable. BTW, you remind me alot of the older brother in the same parable.
SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE God's knowledge and our Free Will are not incompatible Salvation is not an issue of power but of choice 'Is each member of a loving relationship desiring to grow and expand that relationship.' is the real question. Notice: the Father in the parable did not go out, grab the son by the neck and drag him home As for what you know about me - do you really think you can figure someone out in less than 1000 characters? For example: I still don't know what you are trying to say.
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 What I am trying to say is that there is no hell, and that all mankind will be reconciled to God our Father. I am also saying that brother John here is teaching a false doctrin created by the RCC 1600 yrs ago. BTW, the prodical son was covered in filth with the smell of swine on Him. God did not judge or condem his son. Just like Christ did not judge or condem the adulterous. THAT, is true forgiveness and mercy. Something most christians are incapible of doing.
SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE Gosh! that is a lot to get out of one little parable... Universalism. Clearly, you would have to a) allegorize just about the entire NT and, b) ignore the first 3 centuries of church teachings. I suppose that John's separation of sheep/goats imagery 'doesn't really mean that.' Obviously, this is an investigation that cannot be done in YT chat. As fare as what 'most christians' do - are you an expert? have you polled them? or are you generalizing to strengthen your point.
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 Quakerman, I like you; but its interesting you mention a straw-man agruement because John MacArthur's whole case here depends on a strawman arguement about why people reject the concept of "hell". Most English translations of the bible do not use the word hell, but John MacArthur and others like him will stay clear of those translations. They can never afford to present the Universalist as an knowledgeable student of the bible.
gsschoenfeld 3 weeks ago
@gsschoenfeld Hey, long time no hear. I subscribe and occasionally watch your stuff. I have been watching NT Wright recently, and others. It is true, what you say. A better word would be 'Hades', as it is closer to 'Sheol'. Gehenna is analog to 'Hell'. The Bible says that Death and Hades will be thrown into Gehenna - so they cannot be the same. Much confusion over imagery has ensued. The point I've been trying to make: 'God cannot force you to love him. He will let you walk away.'
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 Fair enough. I'm not a Universalist myself, but I think their case is at least as good, if not substantially better than the whole "Sinner's in the Hands of an Angry God" theology.
gsschoenfeld 3 weeks ago
@gsschoenfeld Read 'The Holiness of God' by RC Sproul (1985). It is not a long book - a couple days should do it. The last chapter is called, 'God in the Hands of Angry Sinners.' Really, all of these discussions center around misunderstandings about the word 'Holy' - probably the most difficult concept for us to grasp because it is a foreign word in *every* language. Suffice it to say, if God is not Holy, then none of His other attributes can be guaranteed stable.
quakerman7 3 weeks ago
@quakerman7 The first 3 centuries of christianity did not teach about eternal torment. They ministered the doctrin of reconciliation of all things back to our Father. The apostel Paul, who btw taught us all what God wants us to know never taught about a place called hell to his listeners. And as for the sheep and goat or wheat and straw. This teaching is the seperation of our carnal nature from our being. Not the rigthouse from the unrightouse. I pity you and you lack of devine sight
SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE One of the things about youtube, is that one gets to watch Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, and innumerable denominational views. I was raised a Nazarene, who like many denominations, believe that God's truth wound and turned through 1950 yrs of history to land firmly on their doorstep. The more church history you learn, the harder it is to hold that view. But, beware, the inflow of Gnosticsm happened early and often. 'Divine Sight'... did you mean 'Divine Insight'?
quakerman7 2 weeks ago
@quakerman7 The reason why they dont believe is because of your dogmatic theology. Let me ask you this. May I have the freedom to believe that all are saved?
SwordofManticorE 2 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE Legally, socially, of course. Epistemologically, no. Also, just because you use the word 'dogmatic' (with its negative connotations) doesn't mean I'm wrong. Hermeneutics is the disciple of systematic interpretation. The tendency of people is to start with an emotional position, then twist the scriptures to get it to say what they want. If you can systematically show how the cleanest interpretation of scripture is 'universalism', I'm not convinced it is.
quakerman7 2 weeks ago
@quakerman7 Epistemologically? Your accusation of me of interpreting scripture based on my emotions may be true, but it is your lack of emotion and love when you interpret scripture that leads you to your dogmatic view. Because I believe and have faith in my Father that He will save all, so shall it be done.
SwordofManticorE 2 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE Actually, you have no idea about my emotions. Such cannot be expressed in YT posts, really. Also, saying, 'it is my lack of emotion that leads to dogmatism' is a circular argument. I could say, 'your overemphasis of God's Love over God's Holiness had led you into error, and, your heart has altered your hermeneutics.' It is a dead end street this because it is just finger-pointing. Beware of 'Fideism': 'I believe strongly, therefore it is true.' That way lies Mormonism.
quakerman7 2 weeks ago

You do not know my heart.
quakerman7 2 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE It is begging the question, you know. You say 1) Anyone who believes in an Eternal Hell is lacks emotion. 2) Quakerman7 believes in an eternal hell, therefore 3) Quakerman7 lacks emotion. I challenge point #1. Further, I do not see why my exegesis or hermeneutics needs to be judged as unfit. In a debate, you'd be laughed off the stage the moment you said, 'My opponent does not agree with me, therefore he is an idiot bastard and automatically loses this debate.' Really.
quakerman7 2 weeks ago
@quakerman7 Ok, let me put it this way. You as a hell believer, must believe that God believes those in eternal torment deserve it, so there for you yourself must also believe that they deserve eternal torment, correct?
SwordofManticorE 2 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE It is not my place to judge the decisions of a Holy God. I have 2 theories I like at the moment: 1. NT Wright has an interesting take: that those who choose to no longer be the image-bearers of God dwindle into a pale existence, and, my own: 2. those who reject Go -, He will not demand they stay. Sealed off in their own reality, they will take their selfish powers and make (over time) a proper hell even if they have to start from scratch. God won't have to lift a finger.

SwordofManticorE 3 weeks ago
@SwordofManticorE Protestant churches also teach 'It is Done/Finished'. Not, Jesus saves you, but then you gotta do good works to 'earn' it. Remember, God is not willing that any should perish. However, God will not force Himself on someone, and He certainly will not require their presence with Him for all eternity. Those who reject Christ do so because, deep down, they think 'God is really a bastard and I hate him.' If they go off all together, away from God, they'll make a hell for themselves.
quakerman7 2 weeks ago
@gsschoenfeld ...continued. I have been working on an alternative to medieval concepts of Hell. Imagine millions of people who have hated God all their lives being given the option to head off to their own sealed dimension. No flames, no devils, no sulfur. Only them and whatever characters they brought with them. Uh oh... only love of self, no grace, no forgiveness: only a never ending game of 'who's got the power today bitches?'

God is love!
gtmj45 5 months ago
@gtmj45 Everything you've just said is heresy and is found no where in the bible. and you've quoted Romans 11:32 out of context.
Hell does not make better, hell is the infinite wrath of God. There are many places in scripture to back that up and not one to back up your point.
Stop deceiving yourselves and others. Hell is the fierce wrath of Almighty God and now while you still have breath is the time for salvation but If you die in your sins, you will have no hope.
HackerzInc 5 months ago

Fear and shame only breeds and spreads fear and shame.
lucasboden 6 months ago
@lucasboden You're wrong, he doesn't preach that. He preaches if you are really saved, you will not continue to live in sin. Salvation isn't a ticket to continue sinning, except knowing that you won't go to hell. It is reconciliation to God, in order to truly and freely worship, love, and serve Him. Jesus was not a hippy in a field of unicorns and daisies preaching free love. He came to reconcile us to God, to save us from sin, which is the purpose of salvation, not so that we can feel loved.
Brynnium 6 months ago
@Brynnium - "He preaches if you are really saved, you will not continue to live in sin" So next time you find yourself having LUST IN THE HEART, do you question your salvation?
lucasboden 6 months ago
@lucasboden No, you're totally wrong. If you happen to have one of his study Bibles, or if you even look on GTY website, you will find that what the term "living in sin" refers to is a constant, habitual unborken pattern of sinning, not a sin. And because you will say this, yes, John MacArthur, as well as the Bible, affirms that Christians do sin, just not in an unbroken pattern as with sinners. Jesus freed us from the slavery of sin.
Brynnium 5 months ago
@Brynnium - And according to John Mac, habitual unbroken pattern of sinning refers mainly to homosexuals, liberals, pedophiles, barack obama, muslims. Rich Republican Christian? No.
lucasboden 5 months ago
@lucasboden If you know what sin is, do that habitually and you have what he is talking about. He is virtually silent politically, except for the practices, policies, and theological liberals, which may be what you speak of, that are clearly unbiblical. If the implication is that he is an opinion-toting bigot, you are misguided.
Brynnium 5 months ago
@Brynnium - He has called Obama a non-christian publically. That is not politically silent. I have no problems if he disagrees with someone's politics or theology; however, he is very self-righteous to say that someone is a non-christian. Note: Politically I support Ron Paul and I am not a fan of Obama, but would never call someone who says they are a christian a non-christian because I disagree with them on issues.
lucasboden 5 months ago
@lucasboden It is not issues that he disagrees with him on (I've seen that video). He criticizes the Bible, and when you pair that with other videos of his speeches where he references the koran as "holy," it is justified to wonder whether or not he is a christian. He attends church only several times per year, and criticizes the Bible, and he is in favor of unbiblical policy. His love for Jesus can be questioned. I understand where you're coming from, though.
