BTW, I live in the US and have had prescribed drugs denied by the insurance company because they were too expensive. The doctor was forced to prescribe the insurance company's suggested alternate. this is so idiotic. if you dont like the NHS get BUPA or some other health care -.- you dont HAVE to stay on waiting lists, the waiting lists are only for the NHS, of course if you want surgery for free your gonna have to wait a while! Giving someone a drug that is expensive and has little proof that it works is dumb when the money for that drug could have saved another 2+ lives elsewhere.

Say there were violent side effects, how do you judge how worthwhile a drug is in that case? Or what if it just doesn't work at all? WRONG For life saving drugs the NICE guideline is US$ 30-45,000 per extra year of quality life. The limit is the same for all. It's sensible and fair. Everyone is free to take insurance for this eventuality or meet the cost themselves. This woman wanted everyone else to pay for her mother's drugs but was not prepared to pay for them herself. Its HER choice, not the government's! It is NOT denial. There are limits to FREE health care you know! Oh, and CANCER operations ARE given priority.
