  • I Saw Mr Ohno at the Adelaide Festival many years ago - and just couldnt see why so many people seemed to be entranced by this performance. I felt irritated - but over the years I have been haunted by the timelessness and authenticity of this most profound performance!

  • Honestly this is awesome, but for me it will always be Hijikata san

  • Looks like me simultaneously dealing with a bad hangover and a full litter box. People actually paid to watch him do this?

  • The Dead Sea...

  • beautiful,

    it`s all,

    i.z.

  • his face is disturbing....

  • I was just reading AnOther magazine, and I saw his quote, and came straight to this video:

"There are an infinity of ways in which you can move from that spot over there to here. But have you figured out those movements in your head, or are we seeing your soul in motion? Even that fleck at the tip of your nail embodies your soul... the essential thing is that your movements, even when you're standing still, embody your soul at all times."

  • Crazy. That's pretty much the same reason I'm here watching.

  • I've always seen this piece as creating a topography with the body, a fragile emotional landscape of desolate silence. a dead sea. but did ohno intend something more biblically symbolic? he was a christian after all.

  • : )

  • This is terrifying.

  • Very.

  • lololol

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk Medo é? Isso é Arte;

  • ese hombre me da miedo....

  • I really don't get it, though I want to...

  • BUTOH

  • Outstanding. Simply outstanding.

  • He's still alive! Amazing.

  • He was born an original.

  • que danza tan extraña e interesante

  • he held his own

currents passed through him that he was not looking for,

    but,

    it was choreographed...

how does he rehearse such irony?

i went to his studio three years ago for a class with yoshio; was nice; too bad the studio is so far out of the way.

  • twoja stara je żółty śnieg

  • omg... this was SO creepy to me! And yet, I couldn't stop watching. Very curious... I found out about this guy from Anthony, and I'm glad I got to see this.

  • Yeah, I also found out about him from Anthony. This guy (Kazuo Ono) is very creepy yet fascinating.

  • I found out from Antony too! I think he must have a whole lot of new fans thanks to mr. Hegarty! It is a very fascinating and mysterious dance!

  • the most amazing butoh i've seen yet. even more detailed in subtlety than bando (who's not butoh, anyway)

  • kiss my name, wonderful song by Antony. But I don't understand why the abum is dedicated to Kazuo Ohno..

  • 'cause Antony is touched by his work?

  • "The Crying Light is dedicated to the great dancer Kazuo Ohno. In performance I watched him cast a circle of light upon the stage, and step into that circle, and reveal the dreams and reveries of his heart. He seemed to dance in the eye of something mysterious and creative; with every gesture he embodied the child and the feminine divine. He's kind of like my art parent." - Antony Hegarty

  • kisss my name kiss my name oh kiss my name i'm trying to kiss my friends turtle doves the years before kiss my rain kiss my name ooooooh ohhh oooooooooooooh ooooooooh kiss my name
  • Lo siento pero no entiendo este ¿baile? No me transmite nada.

  • no es el baile lo que no te trasmite nada sino el contenido que no te llega por pertenecer a otra cultura, el buto es expresividad máxima, cuando el contenido te sea más cercano puede que te cause un efecto diferente

  • wunderschön

  • Oh, i feel it in my blood. I take the same sense i have from ancient greek theatre. Haunting and sacred, amazing!

  • You're right. I apologize and have added authorship info to the description.

  • shhhh....

    language is transcendent here.

    Just watch.

    no grumbling.

  • vugcom you are the biggest asshole I've seen in my whole life, by far!... if you complain for bad English, learn a new language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

que bueno que todavia queda gente pensante fade3039.......

  • ook I'll let you have the last word

    ;)

    now run along and play

    Now THAT was funny...

    what happened to your wit???

You lost your cool, too many taxes this year?

By the looks of it your hockey knowledge most likely far ecceeds that that you'll probably ever know of butoh, or Japan for that matter...

So why don't you go cuss n rant your ignorant rage at the next H&R Block...

Perhaps it'll be better invested there ;)

  • ich möchte iregendetwas so tun.

    irgendetwas.

    und sei es geschirr spülen.

  • Vraiment terriblement beau...

  • sensitive

  • PRECIOSO, REALMENTE.

  • what you want me to say... honestly, i don't understand butoh. i know it's a kind of dance but i see it so simple

  • butoh is all about the stipping of all the superficial layers society imposes on us...so butoh performers try and express the truth to the audience. which is why many of the stories resolve around homosexuals and people with mental problems because they are the ones outcasted from society, and they hold the "truth"

    yeah

    IM OUT

AHAHHA i had this butoh workshop last week

    fucking amazing

  • Beautiful! Thankyou

  • Thanks for uploading Kazuo Ohno's Butoh film! "Dead Sea" was first performed in 1885, and performed 11 times total, the last one was in 1995 at Tokyo as far as I know ;-)

  • Tight.

  • amazing... i only hope to be half as creative when i am 100
