  • an inspiration to people everywhere...

  • I LIKE THE REPLICA OF THE OLYMPIC FLAG WITH THE HIDDEN INSCRIPTION OF "SINGAPORE 2010".THANKS AND GIVE GLORY TO SINGAPORE! GOD BLESS!

HOPE THAT THE SINGAPORE FLAG WILL BE RAISED AT THE NEXT OLYMPICS IN NANJING DURING THE CLOSING CEREMONIES TO RECOGNIZE THE BIRTH OF THE YOUTH OLYMPICS IN SINGAPORE WHICH SAME AS THE GREECE FLAG WAS RAISED IN THE SENIOR OLYMPICS.

  • This is extremely touching!

  • never thought that finally olympics has come to south east asia.

  • i would like to bobsleigh for my country next year

  • Olympics Prez J Rogge described the village as "first class. This is the 22nd village I visited, since my first Olympic Games in 1968 so I can compare, and this is in the top league of the Olympic villages".4-time Olympic medallist sprinter Franki Frederick said that all the best youth athletes in the world want to represent their country at the YOG so "it's no wonder they're setting new records." Internationale de Gymanastique Prez Bruno Grandi said "the YOG level is extremely high."

  • @cruisser217

Yup. But it was mentioned shortly after that not all countries sent their best athletes.

It might not be the best YOG, but it definitely is the most emotional and touching one. Given the extremely limited time of 2 year+, it is indeed a great job done by Singapore! Furthermore, Singapore hosted the first Asian Youth Games in 2009 as well, and it is kind of rush to manage both of them. Not to mention, several major events happened in 2010; YOG, CNY + CHINGAY, NDP, F1 Night Race.

  • @iilluuvvmmll Regardless, the few who'd thought this was meant for juniors were badly mistaken when the YOG was showcased in such spectacular form.

The Advertiser, an Adelaide tabloid posed this one-page one-liner , " the question on many Australian lips will be: Could we do this?"

Australians are sports- crazy, so there're lots of channels that daily cater to sports.

The Age, the Daily Telegraph, the Herald Sun and others featured the Games in scoreboards and pictures on the YOG.

  • "The Youth Olympics Games Int Olympics Comm president Jacques Rogge , was very happy with the tv coverage and YouTube hits in so many countries with 166 broadcasters, exclaiming,"It was the? 3rd most-watched item on Youtube in the world..that's something!" . 205 Countries participated, and newspapers and TV channels in Asia , Europe and the West caught the resounding success of the Opening Ceremony in Singapore held @ the Marina Barrage. One Australian tabloid posed," Could we do this?"

  • the yog may not have been as successful as we hoped for but the thousands of people who spent hundreds of hours making it a success deserves credit. I know how hard everyone worked cause i was one of the performers in the weird costume with the "crab claw" headgear and i chalked up 200 hours of cip from march to august because of yog...

  • That trumpet part when the flame is extinguished gets me all the time..

  • @kalsikum Indeed. The part caught me too and my tears just dropped down unconsciously.

  • If someone puts in hard work to give you a gift, and you decline it, what will they feel? If they were you, what will you feel? Please be more considerate and treat others with respect before you haters say such harsh comments. Maybe you are true in saying its not the best show of all, but the show is not made to be compared but to be celebrated with joy and elation cause this is one country that celebrates peace and prosperity in the true power of sports.

  • @tuthuan365

you must have been very sharp to notice the many fine for the this - and - that

sign boards all over singapore BUT DID YOU NOTICE ALSO the many spy-

cameras all over the island of singapore?

see the opening and closing ceremonies video again here.

does it not tell you that you're being watch everywhere by BIG BROTHER - EVEN

ON ALL THE HIGHWAY ROUTES in singapore

does it mean there are many terrorists in singapore or, what ?

    if not, why so paranoid?

  • @thai9001 the cameras on the highway are for the cars [speeding] cameras on the stage are for terrorist.

  • there was a youth olympic games? the media sure didn't think this was worthy of reporting

  • @gamecrazy132 The media did reported... you just didn't watch...

  • @LeonNizam no they didnt, well not in the U.S. at least

  • @gamecrazy132

neither did they report in all australian media - considering australia sent a big contingent and is SO CLOSE to singapore.

so, one cannot imagine who else did not report it.

with no satellite access for most of the yog singapore participating countries, one wonder if anyone outside singapore did report on this yog.

for those who said this yog is televised widely, one wonders whether they are trying to claim credits for this yog when there is no credit to claim.

  • @gamecrazy132 Well... so sorry about that but I assure you that the authorities had ensured a worldwide coverage although some broadcasters might not be distinctive in their broadcasting program so their viewers might miss their brief publications of the games. Looking on the bright side, now that the games are permanently publicised in the net, you can also watch it again in sites like this one.

  • @thai9001 Was I talking nonsense...? I didn't recall that by anyway... I'm not here to start a big fuss all about publicity but I'm sure the media authorities did whatever it takes to reach a world audience, however, they might be less concern about the level of attention broadcasters give to publicise the games. From what I've reasearched, they had a brief coverage of the games in an Australian news though it was not very well delivered to viewers so that resulted in many viewers missing it.

  • @LeonNizam

yes, even singapore's close neighbor like aystralia did a terrible job in trying to help singapore out on this yog, like many yog countries too.

there was nothing at all in europe and the usa.

yes, someone and one other here in youtube were quite right when they said they thought this was just a summer camp and not the best olympic show in town.

so broken hearted to such comments'

  • @MegaRose235 When I said "researched" I meant: Its on the YOG website under the list of international broadcasters, an australian broadcasting channel was present in that list. YOG's official wikipedia page did say that they have some problem bringing the games to Australians as they have some problems with the Australian broadcaster. Hence, the YOG was not properly promoted in Australia and only appeared briefly in an Australian local news.

  • @thai9001

money runs out even before ,like cwg india , games started?

  • @gamecrazy132

australia's many tv channels did not report on this yog as mentioned by adamefimoff

on the opening ceremony section here.

this was also true in many of the yog participating countries.

so if you are australian, you would have heard nothing of it too like many others in many countries.

besides, many said money of $500 million for this yog was not enough too.

    so, there you have it.

  • I WAS THE 1st PERSON TO GO INTO THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE 1st YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES!!! SINGAPORE ALL THE WAY!!!

  • 2010 is the Best and so do SINGAPORE!!i'M VERY PROUD TO become a singaporeans:DD

  • Well done to every single person that was involved in this event! Well done to all Singaporeans who embraced and graciously tolerated the inconveniences caused by this event! An impressive feat accomplished by the "Little Red Dot" :-)) *standing applause*

  • hi may i know what song did Sheikh Haikel sang? and where can i get it?

  • Hi FooWeeSan, the flame is real. The effect is created by airflow...

  • i dunno why but the transition into the party fiesta give me goosebumps. Music and the laser from the pitch dark silent is cool!

  • is the flame real?

  • @FooWeeSan yep

  • When I was watching this live those commentators spoke over every speech song or anything worth watching.

  • @AlexHWalker

this is the first yog and given only two years to organise it , time and experience were not enough.

so all these voice-overs were unfortunate and was regrettably the end-result of time shortage and inexperience in organising this yog.

  • @AlexHWalker

    singapore, la .

    don't balme them la

it's their way of life la.

  • ♥Vika♥

  • lolololololol 8:32

  • Great show.

  • i have to going on a holiday tour to the far east. theirs cities are amazing

  • i thought the mascots were blind? =X if they cant see wun they bump into each other? O.o

  • @mzxinwei They are very very tiny micro holes on the top of the "fake" eyes making them able to see through. The holes would not be seen by spectators far away but if you stand just right in front of the mascot you will be able to see the tiny holes.

  • Awesome ! Enjoyed watching the games on YT.

  • what an amazing backdrop... never felt so proud being singaporean

  • I was there!

  • I don't know what and how others might feel , impressed or otherwise with the closing ceremony , but , just look at the athletes enjoying themselves there perhaps the most immediate and direct testimonial of the closing ceremony, it was definitely and unquestionably a SUCCESS . SINGAPORE has did it again !!! if you agree m thumbs UP !

  • @IGNlTlON I agree, it doesn't matter what others might think of this event, what matters is that Singapore and any other countries that put in effort to organise events such as this have tried their best to and it is the effort that matters most, not the results. Good luck and all the best to New Dehli Commonwealth Games 2010 I hope for the best that the games will run smoothly. ^_^

  • @IGNlTlON people tend to forget about this, and compare one's own country with another all the time.

With the athletes of the Olympic games enjoying what they do and being brother and sister to one another, in what they do, what they enjoy, people who do not experience it tend to forget that we're but one race, and that race is that of humanity.

Olympics is but one of the events that remind us that great happiness can be brought about when we put our differences aside and accept one another =)

  • 13:10 is the most awesomee part! Well done Singapore, I am proud to be a Singaporean.
