I conclude that in the real world, the end truly does justify the means. Snoopy tried to be nice and starved every night. He turned into an evil bastard and headed the pack. It's better to be on the good side of life's unfair biases. People only judge others for their behavior anyway and what that behavior means as far as status and resources. Morality is much like technical analysis in stock patterns, it only really works if there are others who believe in it, too and follow/reward its rules

This is a great special with a great message.

I distinctly remember it being a tad scary when I was a kid because it was so different from the other Charlie Brown specials. But it was scary in a good way because it had a message about growing up if you want to live.

....of course now, TV would be too chicken S#*# to produce something like this again for fear of "scaring little kids" and offending parents.... =/

Love Peanuts. This is one of the most remediable episodes I've seen. How Snoopy turned into a real vicious alpha dog. I was hella rooting for him as a kid. Now I'm still rooting for him when I watch this.

It'll come out, eventually! Warner Bros. is far more aggressive with the Peanuts franchise than Paramount ever was. They just came out with SNOOPY'S REUNION (which has IT'S FLASHBEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN), and they're also releasing a set with all of the 60s specials in one, so WHAT A NIGHTMARE, CHARLIE BROWN! won't be too far away.
