Good review! I like Cuil, but it needs more improvement. Time will make it better and a real Google-Killer. Thank you Cuil! Kill Google! (but not Yahoo)
I completely disagree with you saying Yahoo has a higher chance of beating Google because it has not once taken over Google in any respect. Cuil on it's first day beat Google for the amount of searches.
I would feel better about using a site that does not keep records of everything I have ever searched. I love Google but it scares me to think that the record of everything I have ever searched exists. Will Cuil keep track of my activities?
well since the people previously worked for google they can abviously step it up. but i agree with the other comments so far about how it's not that great. google is by far much, much superior to cuil at the moment but i do have faith in cuil to step it up.
The "woman" wrote the software that indexes googles search engine. And I think they still user her software...probably.
Its the first day of business. I'm sure all search engines are perfect in the first day just like software has no bugs. Obviously these people leaving comments don't write software. So they don't understand the nature of the business.
The woman did write the software which does the indexing, they may still use it, but I'm it has been refined. Nonetheless, Cuil isn't ready for the masses - it has potential. It really does lack relevancy though (currently).
I agree and its the first day. Have you seen what google looked and lacked when they first launched? Every game you buy or software will come with bugs. How many times you get updates on your OS for patches? Its the nature of the software business.
A good amount of complaints that were on youtube have been fixed. Their is still room for improvement
In order to fully get feedback and scale it you must release it to the public in order to reach the masses to fix it. Its real life not Academia.
I couldn't agree with you more. I never expect an initial release of any software to be perfect, nor should anyone.
I don't think the problem is their software (their being Cuil), but rather their ability to be able to draw people away from Google. They have to make a dent in Yahoo and Live first though.
It will be very interesting to watch them over the next few years. Perhaps will call for an updated review in a few months.
I agree with you too on that. I haven't researched on how they went public. If they (cuil) hit the press. Or if the people who were following them waited until today and saturated the press.
Its funny because if this wasn't made by ex google players and self innovators. People would be kissing ass right now saying oh wow you're so smart, amazing, you're a web 2.0 innovator. But because its by google ex employees and others who were self made after leaving google. They get hit hard by everyone.
I would feel better about using a site that does not keep records of everyhting I have ever seacrched. I love Google but it scares me to think that the record of everything i have ever searched exists. Will Cuil keep track of my activities?
It's only been out for a few hours. The number of results is amazing considering how long it's been available, and including all the downtime they've already had. I'm sure they will catch up in the near future. The interface is nice and elegant and I think it's got potential.
The number of results are pathetic considering the little time they obviously spent beta-testing their product. Perhaps they should work on their code and not their marketing.
I just tried the site... the site fuckin' sucks... Google ROCKS... There is nothing other than simple Yahoo style site searches that existed back in the early and mid-1990s. Google offers so much more than basic page search.
It's crap - I've tried a few test searches on it today and all I get sorry, page not found. Why do companies always release things that aren't finished. Good review though Jeff, might be worth keeping an eye on.
I like the search engine approach to information, but when it somes to marketing I like the personalized touch of having my web site on a CD/DVD that links others to my own information criteria setings using the web.
I don't think Cuil will turn out better than Google. I don't really like how it only shows 6 searches per page per search. I think I prefer Google's list.
Great video, Jeff!!! I'm liking cuil, as far as their search goes, but the GUI, not so much. I've also been checking out Scour lately, which is a bit interesting. Just my thoughts :)

I think it is time for something to rival google, and they claim not to hold any information on Ip addresses, ect. Which is a good thing..

looks good.. Maybe if we give it time.. After all.. Aren't we all against monopol? Google is exactly that

Yeah, they should have left it in Beta for 8 years like google does.
