If anything, the one shot of his game that has gotten worse are his tweeners. A fantastic tweener shot here by Nadal. The tweeners he hits (or at least tries) fail badly or just end up at the bottom of the net.
Just to troll the Nadal fan boys, what makes Federer better than the Nadal and Djokovics is that they require lucky genes and fitness to win, things that quickly erode over time, Federer plays with skill. A 30 year old Federer can upset a 23 year old Djokovic on a winning streak and push a 24 year old Nadal, and he would if he were anyone else.

The only reason that Federer dominated his era from 2002-2007 was because he was the only player with that caliber of play, aside from a teenager Nadal. Look what happened when Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray hit their primes. Since Nadal hit his prime, Federer hasn't beaten him at a single slam, can't even reach the semis of Wimbledon anymore, and literally the only thing he has on him now is his slam count - which is only there because he had no competition in his early years.

@explodingpimp A have to agree, Fed is great but lets be honest, most of the other great players now weren't around to give Federer a challenge accept Nadal, but Nadal was just a teenager then.
@kelman221 I disagree. Federer is now over the top, but still able to beat the youngsters on a good day. Let's see how Djoko and Nadal plays when they reach 30.

@pseudotorgeir Nadal hit his stride earlier age than Federer, and the way Nadal plays it would only take some common sense to figure that by the time Nadal is 30 he will probably be done. Djokovic who knows with that guy, he is just insase :P. And being able to beat youngsters doesnt mean much, there have been plenty other players around late 20's or around 30 who could still play well other than Federer.
@pseudotorgeir Nadal and Djoko beat people without having to have a good day, and they own Federer (at Nadal does). Who cares how thye play at 30, tennis is changing and unless it stops then more people will be playing like Djoko and Nadal because that is what works. It isn't your fault, but I love how biased Federer fans are and how they are complete shits of the earth at times. People can't even see my last comment because of a simple statement that didn't even say anything negative.
Nadals tweener was good, BUT it wasn't a crucial stage of the match lile rogers and was it in a semi final of the best grand slam to achieve match point?....NO!
I love seeing Federer comments in foreign accents. His fan base is not only ignorant, but also quite diverse! Look, Federer was a model champion from 2003-2007. He is the greatest player of all-time. But since January of 2008 he has never once been the true top player in the world, and he has acted arrogantly and foolishly on the court. If you are going to be the good boy, you'd better stick to it--not cry when losing in finals and smashing racquets like you did in the old days.
@theatlantisrise arrogant annoying blind nadal fan. nadal = fake time-out. cheater. gamesmanship. too noisy annoying always. excuse injury. exaggerated appeal about the badness of condition always. exaggerated cry appeal about the fake injury always. retire for likely lose many times. looks down on Sampras and past players. arrogant annoying blind fan.
till then, you can not compare this to what roger does. with all due respect to rafa. i believe he is one of the greatest of all times. but roger is few steps ahead of him. and dont think rafa will ever catch up as long roger is still in his 30s and playing like this.
@Pronabz Nadal's shot was indeed not nearly as spectacular as the tweeners produced by Federer or Santoro, but hitting it right on Federer's body was a pretty nice play, it wasn't an easy volley for the swiss.
@Henrii01 Nadal will always do these shots againts federer and he will be successful, but Federer will never do these shots againts Nadal...VAMOS RAFA!!!...
@El7IncA I love them both, but I don't think he will. With Djokovic in the mix and (although it's unlikely) Roger still being a potential threat to Nadal, added to the fact that Nadal's knees/body won't be able to take the strain he puts on them forever, it's just unlikely he'll pass 16. He will certainly get close though, without a doubt.
The reason people didn't really pay attention to this is because it wasn't an outright winner. Federer just missed a fairly routine volley. Still a nice shot though.
I think you don't really know what a good tweener is ..
A great tweener is VERY difficult to return because its trajectory is such that the height of the ball just clears the net closely and dips down right after clearing the net making it extremely difficult to return especially when the returner is standing so close to the net with not much room to manoevre his racquet angle ..
--- Nadal forced the error out of Fed with a wonderfully executed tweener ---
.. under normal circumstances Fed's block would have easily cleared the net considering his racquet is angled upwards, but the spin in Nadal's tweener simply made the ball dip down against Fed's racquet resulting in the netted Fed shot ..
THAT , to me is genius upon genius of a shot from Nadal ..
wow, didn't think Rafa ever pulled it off but here it is! It's a real abomination that no one has ever included this shot in the highlight reel, seeing how this is a pretty popular match
@federerbestclass lawl creapy stalker strikes back :D I can't wait when Rafa surpass Rog in the future.... it will be the end of federerbestclass maybe there will be new one called nadalbestclass... which is not bright future for us :X

Do you even realise how much spin Nadal has to impart to the tweener just so that Federer's block will go into the net ?
The spin added to Nadal's tweener is what makes it a superior tweener, a superbly disguised shot with the hidden danger of Nadal's deadly spin ..
THAT is a deadly tweener by Nadal - the SPINNER TWEENER ..
