  • This song was, is and will be Awsome. It never was middle of the road. Today's music may be crappy compared to yestedays standards but yesterdays music also didn't live up to the standards that came before them. Trust me 30 years from now your kids will be jammin to Justin Beaber, saying, "Man! How is it that my pop's music was so much better than my music today?"

  • I think this song is a plea, and a prayer. I love this song....

  • WATCH``.THE..,FULL.'.TV.,;SHOW`;,ONLINE,,;

  • when people actually rapped n rap songs

  • I WAS BROUGHT UP ON THIS! REAL HIP HOP

  • This is what hip hop sounds when I listen to hip hop today.

  • this was the stuff back in the day!

  • I have this same program on my laptop.

  • Sounds like a great trip.

  • i AM on Aressted Development all day yall.

  • my science teacher tells me soo much about this and im starting to realise the true meaning of this song, amazing.

  • What is tha meaning?

  • @jazzyfaydeeznuts it's about going back to a simpler time.

  • Oh, I love this song. Been listening to it since I was in 5 grade.(:

  • REAL Hip-Hop. Beautiful song dawg, just beautiful. This is when music was still an art, and not a business.

  • mp3's turned the music biz into a racket for agents and producers to scurry to make the most money for the least amount of effort. The 1992 audience is gone, artistic motivation is useless. It's all about quick 3-4 min "today jingles" based on what once was, to turn a quick buck in the hopes of a "hit." Back when radio music mattered, everything was put out to compete for the billboard, today, if a song manages to actually be liked by a lot of people, we download it.

  • It would be amazing for music like this to come back out, hip hop of the 90s needs to make a come back!

  • i was raised in clarksville, family in knoxville petross and tha nooga.... TN goes hard

  • Classic. This song was middle of the road when it came out but if it came out TODAY it would be the best thing out. Shows you how crappy the music is today.

  • music died after the turn of the century... the sounds u here on Tv today are just 4 personal benefits. No current "Artist" of this generation gives a shit about there muisc, if they can make a pound of u, they will... even if there "music" has no soul

  • That is generalization.

There are many underground artists who churn out real music, pure earth and soul.

I hope you are talking about the mainstream artists.

  • what?? this song is great! how is it middle of the road?

  • Of course it is great now in 2009. When this song came out back in the day, there was so much great music it wasn't all that. It just shows you how shitty today's music really is that a middle of the road song when it came out in the 90's is the BEST compared to anything coming out today.

  • idk. i've been listening to this song since it came out and i listen to all sorts of underground and old school/golden age hip hop, as well as a plethora of music outside the realm of hip hop, and this song still blows me away more than even tracks like "NY State of Mind", "Electric Relaxation", "Come Clean" (Jeru The Damaja -- and i am a HUGE Jeru fan), etc. the only song that was as big as this back then that really beats it imo is "They Reminisce Over You".

  • now that opinion is obviously unpopular, but i would think that it would be easily agreeable that this was at least on par with most of those tracks, even if slightly below.

  • i see what you mean, but back in days, THIS was a great song

  • Amen!

  • I love this song. Shame the meaning is lost on some of you.

  • kolkron, watch my video for my "White Man" poem. learn something.

  • obviously you didn't watch it because you would realize there are no "Negroes," as you call them, in my video. it is just me, a white male, discussing race relations from my perspective without condemning African Americans, but rather letting ignorant racists like yourself know that just as the brothers from the 60's didn't stand for white racism against blacks, i won't stand for black racism against whites and i will speak out every time in a completely non-racist manner.

  • dumb cracka

  • Oh yeah, cause posting idiocy and hatred on youtube is moving the race forward...

    dumbass.

don't you realize you can't fight prejudice with prejudice?

the only nigger here is you.

    buh-bye.

  • evie789, don't worry, kolkron is now blocked from commenting on my videos.

  • Way to go! A minority discriminating against another minority. Then people wonder why racism won't die.

  • I remember this song. In fact, some dude was blasting his base at the beach to this song the other day!

  • I love this song!!! Im from Ten-a-kee!!

    Thanks for posting it!!

  • The only hip hop record you'll ever need.

  • so true !

  • Time to break out the cross colours!!! XDDDD

  • great song. new found glory did a cover of this that is superb. i'm not a fan of new found glory but it really is something you should check out if you like this song.

  • yes this song is spirituali like it

  • Yes, my roots run deep in Tennessee...My Great grandfarther was born in 1870, 5 years after the civil war(1865).Of course, more than likely his parents were slaves.

  • it makes sense to me that oppresed people would focus more on spoken word than music words are a powerful tool "yes we can"

  • MUST LOVE SONG if u LOVE HIPHOP!

    IT ALL BEGAN IN AFRICA...

  • No, it didn't begin in Africa. That's kinda the cool thing, is that hip-hop invariably blossoms, in every country, from that country's minorities. Germany's hip-hop, for instance, started with the Turks; the US's hip-hop came from black-Americans; France's hip-hop came from Algerians.

Black-Americans aren't "Africans," but Americans oppressed.

    Don't believe the hype.

  • "But I am still thirsty", nice.

    True Sand Pedlar, true.

I wish this type of hip hop was still mainstream i.e. thought-provoking rather than body-provoking.

Remember when it was? Here's hip-hoping it'll come back!

  • Human being began in Africa. The African man is the oldest. We have been here a long time. The world is not new to us. We are very creative. We created the pyramids, mathematics, Jazz, hip-hop, rap, rock & roll, soul, science. If you look everything that has been created in the world, we have a major influence on that creation. Don't be side track by your blind world. Remember, everything you see on television is no the truth. United States of America wants you to think that way.

  • It's not about the style, it's about the message.

  • If thats really what you think, you need to have a good read about the history of hiphop and appreciate that everything took influence from somewhere. On a personal note you a nob!!!

  • OH my god, are you serious. The noise today on the radio DEFINITELY beats this at being some of the most WACK "music" ever written in hip hop.

You should learn yourself, and stop listening to the radio, honestly.

  • you should go deaf cuz you dont deserve to listen to this kind of music

  • AMEN to that brother.

  • you can make picture slide shows with music in macromedia flash. I dont know what program this author used though.

  • now back in the day i loved these guys.. love their flow.. fab*****

  • What program did you use to make this?

  • it's called "Muvee." it is a really restricting program, but it does make good videos. i made this one, my first HH Vs. Rap video and my They Reminisce... video on it. i use Windows Movie Maker now though.

  • Just crazy good. Old white hillbilly sez come on in we're havin'greens cornbread and southern fried chicken. Y'all are welcome.

  • Always loved this tune..

  • one of my favs.. i love this beat. we don't give this group enough props :) big ups 5 stars

  • you're so right. AD is one of the most slept on hip hop groups ever. easily in my top 3 groups, plus they're better now than ever. they have a new rapper on top of the one they have already named One Love who is sick, plus Speech got better. you should check out Lotta Things To DO. that track is ILL!

  • true people do sleep on them, they one of my tops also. Nobody even talks about them and real hip hop in the same sentence as much as we should. Sad cause they have kept it real from the beginning. thanks for the info and yes i've heard Lotta Things To DO, track is phat :)

  • I have always liked this southern "countryified" style of hip-hop.

Theres so much soul and pain in the south(grew up in Virginia). They do a good job of expressing it in their music.

  • oh, i totally agree. that's my favorite ATCQ song right there. anyone want to know about underground hip hop, i'm your man!

  • new found glory's version is better

  • ? really? i must hear this. either way, this is the original.

  • OK, i didn't hear it but i just heard New Found Glory for the first time and they remind me of a fusion of Blink 182 and N'Sync. no thank you.

  • new found glory is known for their covers including "back dat ass up" and shit...

    their cover is nice tho

  • a 10y.o. kid who was near an expert at horseshoes charged me $5 for the secret behind how to play and win... that was the easiest $5 that kid ever made! he was just a avid player of the game! swindler!!! (LOL!!!)

  • What did Tennessee?

    The same thing Arkansas.

  • Classic i remember when this joint got heavy air play.

  • Was this song in a Tony Hawk game? I know I've heard it before, and I'm thinking that's where...

  • i doubt it. you probably heard it as a kid. it was all over the radio/TV in 1992-93, maybe early 94 or so. also, they show it from time to time on MTV/BET and their networks. the album went 5X plat. in 1992.

  • I often wonder abt. the ancestors in my fam but its so difficult

  • Yeah, that's probably it... I never watched many music videos, but I did listen to a lot a radio. Great song, by the way. This is the one that got me into Arrested Development.

  • But I am still thirsty.

    love it!

  • Its a positive song about how things are going amuke.

  • i don't think amuke is a real word. anyways, if you are trying to say what i think, (probably meant amok) i disagree. this song is about going back to a simpler time. "take me to another place/take me to another land/make me forget all that hurts me/let me understand your plan." they are not saying "everything is bad," they are saying "let's make everything good" in a sense. in the eyes of AD the glass isnt half empty its half full. so basically, if it is bad, they aren't looking at it that way.

  • eboyd, I don't think it is necessary to correct others poor grammar and spelling.. the internet is informal, misspelling words it often intentional. Also, interpretations of a songs meaning are just that-- interpretations

  • i wasn't correcting his grammar. i didn't know what he was saying so i let him know that i was unsure. i did word that a little rudely and i apologize. anyways, i was just letting him know what the INTENDED meaning is.

  • i havnt heard this song for awhile..cheers for the post..didnt even know it was AD..

  • yessir! no problem bro.

  • this track brings back good times just relaxing sitting back and feeling the beat ahh good times

  • My bad man, I didnt do too well in English. But was real good in math and such.

You are right I guess I did miss the true point of the song. Times used to be better. The place we are in now is very complex and difficult. Its actually sad my friend...

  • it's np. yeah, you are right.

  • Thanks Eboyd32 Nice Job

  • Dope song I love the singing in the last minute she has a fantastic voice

  • another reason why this is so great... it is AUTHENTIC, its not this pretentious wannabe gangstar shit. Its REAL and the music shows it's root, and these roots are not from the street, but the african continent. Masterpiece.

  • damn straight!

  • i couldn't have said it better!

  • oops, thats in reply to Shorn70 , btw.

  • this song is banging

  • can't wait to see them in perth with the wailers, ub40 maxi priest and katchafire

  • i bet that show is gonna be amazing

  • Just saw those guys live in Rotorua, New Zealand and they were all off the hook, especially UB40 and Arrested Development. The Perth show will be well worth it!

  • you guys are talking about European shows aren't you? you guys are so lucky. AD hardly tours the US nowadays.

  • No mate those are Australian and New Zealand concerts. (and we are lucky to get any concerts at all)

  • oh really? well, i think they tour Germany and Japan actually pretty consistently, of course i think they are making their way back to the US slowly.

  • For 'Raggamuffin'? UB40, Maxi Priest, The Wailers, Arrested Development, Katchafire. I went to the Melbourne Concert for my 21st, 12/02/2008. Was amazing. 'AD' did this song so well.

  • I didn't even like rap/hip hop when this song came out and it changed my entire view on the musical art form.

    Badd ass.

  • This is a straight classic!!!!

  • I just found this dusty CD in my archive... man, this is just great. There is no music like this anymore nowerdays.

  • Howdy from Tennessee !

  • I remember when this came out it was during the whole gangsta rap movement.. it was so different and it just rocked. Thanks for the video man.

  • it was very different from what was playing at the time... and it was timely. i took to it right away. it rocked!

  • lol! i found my cassette from wayyyy bac lol

  • i got this slowed down on my page

  • WHY??? why would you fuck up a masterpiece?

  • man this song crank...

    lol.

    && lovin it...

it makes me happy && makes me 4-get about life.

it just takes me to another place... like um oh

    Tennessee =]

  • i love this song...1 of the classics by arrested development

  • Why they removed the original video?

  • copyright infringement.

  • Fuck. Boo.

  • haha the girl in the middle has about the most uninspiring, hilarious rap i've ever heard. A GAME OF HORSESHOES!! haha but it's still an amazing song

  • yeah, Eshe's part was a bit odd, but oh well! still my favorite hip hop song!!!

  • this is the only good hip hop/rap song ive ever heard. maybe thats cos im a grunge guy but w/e

  • you probably haven't heard much. it's understandable. the new mainstream "hip hop" (not really hip hop, just BS rap) fucking sucks. i could show you plenty of good stuff if you were interested.

  • Holy crap, FINALLY someone who agrees with me man!

I HATE rap today. I have NO respect for it what-so-ever

I miss old rap of like, the 90's when it would make sense you know what I mean? lol

  • man, THERE IS LIKE A WHOLE NETWORK OF US!!! check this out: myspace/realhiphopforever1520, youtube/realhiphop4ever and also youtube/groups_layout?name=RealHipHopForever. check us out at all of these and please JOIN US!!! we are OVER 100 STRONG and there are MILLIONS of others out there!!!! join the youtube group, then get at me for more info.

  • it still makes sense,it was just less controlled by corporate america, and the late 80's was better then the 90's yell

  • yes, yes, yes!!

  • with the shit out now it must piss off african americans to be associated with 50 cent and soulja boy and its discrimanating for rich people to put out shit like soul plane whos your caddy and brats the movie and expect people to think its funny and pay to go see it...why must i grow up in a time where you cant find a decent band or group without hearing about the by word of mouth or stumbling across them online

  • this is a sweet song

  • thsi is a really great song. I happened apon this song by watching the greatest songs of the 90's. i wish they played stuff like this now. my generation of music sucks. the objectifing women must stop.

  • that list was pretty bad too but this song was definitely a highlight of that list. believe me, even though i am probably in your generation myself (i'm only 20) i did get a chance to listen to the music back then and there was just as much bullshit then as now. the difference is that back then the bad stuff was less known and it is easier to record now, plus now the good music is ALL on the underground. get at me and i'll tell you about some good new hip hop, plus this group's new album.

  • I see where you're comming from. If you could point me in the dirrection of the good new hip hop and ad's new album, i'll be greatful.

  • really good song

  • a game of horseshoooes!

  • pure energy !!!

  • This was my song back then! I love the 90's!!

  • i wish music went this way this ia a classic

  • but i am still thirsty hahaha XD

  • special!

  • how to provide a country,or civilization? ...

not by violences, druggs maffia, ...such...but by workin & progress...( Spike lee realisator)

  • I challenge you to a game of horseshoes, a gamea HORSESHOOOOOOOES

  • . . . but I am still thirsty

  • classic hip hop right here

check out the freestyles on my channel

    peace love and nappiness!!!

  • (eboyd32)--HEY!!! are you going to post 'dawn of the dread' and 'mamas always on stage'... or not?

  • i'm sorry, i haven't been on in a little while so when i get a chance, hopefully tomorrow, i will do so. BTW, both of those are two of my favorite AD songs.

  • shut up! mine too! i played my AD tape so much it snapped on me. too much of a good thing, i guess!

  • LOL!!! yeah, the scratching on Mama's Always On Stage is infectious and Dawn Of The Dreads has my second favorite bass line ever (Sugarhill Gang - "Rapper's Delight"/Chic - "Good Times" is my #1).

  • haha tapes how flawed cheap elements, small storage, bulky

  • but you have to be sooo careful with those cd's, too--treat them like babies. one small scratch and "speech" would have a studdering problem.

  • I like this video.

  • no you don't. it's the most annoying thing i've seen all day.

  • yeah, but we don't care about your opinion.

  • Classic and Beautiful!! Be Proud Black People!!Don't worry, people who dis' this cut just don't get it. As usual, what THEY don't understand, they ridicule, UNLESS THEY CAN EXPLOIT TO THEIR ADVANTAGE.

  • how in the hell did i find this song? it took me like all day today to remember a line from it so i could google it

  • let me guess, "take me to another place/take me to another land," right?

  • Essentially a band inspired by the TV show "A Different World."

It is no surprise that they didn't last long.

  • wow! shows how much you know. they are still making music and doing decently well. they have a new album and the lead single is on BETJ all the time. they have been big in Japan and Germany for quite a while now. and no, they weren't inspired by that show. how would that be possible when their group has been in the process of getting a deal since 1988, a year after that show started, which means their group has been around longer than the show, they just weren't recording yet. dumbass.

  • Stop it. They're a total joke.

  • oh really? by who's standards? yours and Blender Magazine's? the magazine who is known for putting 50 Cent and Britney Spears at the top of their rankings? it's almost an honor to be known as one of Blender's Worst 50 Of All Time, that's how much of a joke they are. you probably quite closely follow what they say, right? like a drone to their every word. are you a serious follower of MTV? you must be by the way you are speaking. either that or you just hate a positive message.

  • maybe you are a suburban white kid trying to rebel? go waste your time somewhere else kid.

  • Yes, they're a total joke. Trying to point out the flaws of black culture and how racism is stil lalive today. That's a total joke to you kid? Do me a favor, stick to talking about baseball.

  • Dear Sir, This is an Arrested Development representation. Would you kindly take your negative dogma elsewhere? We here in the internet world would kindly appreciate it. Cheers, ADAM. (82 Alexander Ct. Caerphilly CF83 1RN, WALES, UK)

  • Sir or Ma'am: This is Arrested Development. No fighting please.

  • Apparently bob ONLY knows baseball.

  • AD actually wrote REAL hip-hop and not about how they'rew going to go to clubs and "bang some hoes." You keep saying Ad is an accidental self-parody, so is every rapper today. They're all trying to be innovative and creative when all they do is come up with the same ol' mainstream crap like In Da Club and Soulja Boy. AD took a stand and did something CREATIVE, you obviously mis-interpeted every one of their songs. They're not saying to go down to Tennessee to get beaten by white folk.

  • They're saying to know your roots and know about how black people were and still are discriminated against douchebag

  • This is a Hip-Hop classic of the 90's

  • Hey thanks for clearing that up for all of us.

  • ...

  • was it really necesary to say that?
