  • I got diagnosed today and I have no clue what I can eat and what I can't. Suddenly, I can never have a soda or chocolate again and now I'm told I can't even have much fruit because that has sugar in it too. I thought it was only the processed sugar I needed to avoid. I have no idea how to survive this...

  • @mermaidofsuburbia don't worry you can eat basically what ever you want soon! you just have to match your insulin level to the amount of carbs you eat. it'll all become much simpler and clearer after a few weeks :)

  • best thing for when your low is milk! works for meee everytime! cause it coats your stomach and stays with you for a longer time than coke. for an instant raise in your blood sugar, id probably have a couple sips of coke...but then id go for some milk. :-) jusstt sayyiinnn

  • coke is NOT WHAT YOU DRINK WHEN YOU HAVE A LOW!!!!! eat a cerrot it has alot of glucose in it it raises suger lvl its what i eat when im in a low and it works

  • why is diabetes something to be ashamed of?!?!?

  • My daughter is 17, she got type 1 diabetes at the age of 2. It's been a long hard road, she's been unconrollable (A1C at 12+) for the past 6 yrs. But she handles everything real well. I've learned alot over the years. I have much respect for ppl living with diabetes.

  • @sportsterxl883c ive been type 1 for 16 years now... ive had high A1C levels like that too.. have you guys considered the insulin pump? i JUST got mine because my A1C has been a little too high for too long. i was really worried about getting it but it's been 3 weeks now and it's sooo much easier to manage now. i highly recommend! speshully if she's been that high

  • @x40sublime Just how high was it?

  • @starsfound before i got the pump..it stayed between 9-12..just went to the doctors yesterday and it's 7. been on the pump for a few months now and i can say it's most deff because of the pump that it went down to 7. i love it! deffinately a life changer.

  • @x40sublime I really don't know about the pump.

  • I have diabetes type 2 since i was 8 yrs old. is not because i was over weight. it was because it is in my family. im not ashame of it.. I actually try to help kids in my skool with diabetes. so ill call my diabetes a gift because it helps me to take better care of myself. and sometimes diabetics could live older than other people cuz we dont use drugs or alcohol. =)

ps.i didnt know elvis had diabetes!

  • @minilovezjobros dude Thats the same what i do =) i have typ 1 but i help other kids in schools. i see My diabetes to like a gift and i have it to from my family and you now what Damn i`am happy that i have diabetes we are all special People not every one can have diabetes =D;)

  • @KillerOsterGer im glad there r people like us that could help peole.. I always say. us diabetic people make this world a sweeter place. lmao, And maybe someday there would be a cure. DUDE U ROCK! PEACE OUT!

  • @KillerOsterGer On long term, diabetes will destroy you! I have type 1 since I was 11 and I used to go to the gym every day but after 20 years... I got neuropathy and I have serious problems with my eyes. Try hemp oil (Rick Simpson) maybe it cures!

  • @VanDammedia no if you go to hospital every 2 months too make a blood test

they can help you thats what i do and i have diabetes typ 1 since i was 7 ^^ and i`am now 17 this year 18 and i have nothing iam full healty

Sry to hear that you have serious problems with your eyes :(

  • @KillerOsterGer I lived for 20 years so healthy too with diabetes type 1 and my blood sugar was OK, but all in a sudden I got neuropathy and retniopathy! Doctors said because of the long time I lived with it. There must be a cure for this evil illness.

  • i never knew elvis had diabetes

  • I have Type 1 diabetes, 9 years since the 7th of November.

  • A great video...now who is the host?

  • That would be nice.

  • T1 - slender OR toned, usually been in control

    T2 - fat OR aged

  • T2 COULD be caused by overweight (i'm talking 'bout young people now) but it can also be people who are NOT overweight. Don't put a sticker on people before you know ALL the facts.

  • You can get diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when you're 9yrs old, 'nd not overweight, there're also other facts that over weight.

  • @lokivonloka

    WRONG

    and

    WRONG.

  • Next time you make a diabetes video (whoever you are), please specify the type of diabetes all these stars have. This is too general. I wanna hear about all the stars who happened to get type 1 during childhood years, and how long they made it before complications got to them, or if they have lived a long healthy life, with no complications (if thats truly possible)

  • I'm SO with you! Type one and type two really ARE different! I think we should have been told! :-)

  • Both types are treated the same by employers and the general public. I have learned that the common perception of Diabetes it that Type 1 is the "really bad" kind. You can get both types late in life, and both types early in life. It should not matter what type they have. The lifestyle is the same, the treatment my non-diabetics is the same. I know. I was diagnosed type1 in 2004. I was born non-diabetic in 1977, There are cases of Children as young as 8 years old getting diagnosed type 2

  • They are only treated the same because people are not educated to know that there is a major difference between the different types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a result of the bodies immune system attacking all of the beta cells of the pancreas. Which basically removes all insulin producing cells. Type 1 diabetics are unable to produce insulin.

  • @jadestonediabetic : Type 2 diabetics have a resistance to insulin. It is still produced in the body, but unable to get to the cells. There are many ways to improve this in type 2 diabetics. Strict diet and exercise can have a major effect on the endocrine system and in some cases, cures type 2.

Type 1 diabetics can not produce insulin at all. Even if there was regular exercise, there would still be no insulin in the body to transport glucose to cells.

  • just a few Similarities to a Type 1 and a Type 2 Diabetic LIFESTYLE are: Controlled portion sizes, regular exercise, Carb counting, (for later on with type 2) insulin therapy, Hypo and Hyperglycemic awareness and the treatment of both, Slow healing wounds, Foot care, eye care, dental care, Finger sticks, the impact on family and close friends, Social discrimination, etc. As a type 1 I still have to have regular exercise, just I have to inject insulin afterwards. (most times)

  • Comment removed

  • I would love to continue this debate, however, if you are going to continue to refuse to see the differences, then I am obviously wasting my time.

  • You are the closed minded one who refuses to see anything beyond your own prejudices. DO NOT keep posting false information!

  • Please read up on type 1 and type 2 diabetes. There would not be two different types if they are not different.

  • Is there any type 1 diabetics who don't inject?

I'll admit to being a bit ignorant about diabetes in general, but due to weight my doctor said I could be at risk of getting type 2 in later life.

BTW, couldn't they use stem cell research to create insulin cells, insert them into the body and let the body produce it itself? Eliminating the need for injections.

  • Stem cell research is still unperfected. They have successfully gotten pancreatic (insulin producing) cells in mice, but not in larger, more genetically like humans, animals yet.

  • I don't imagine it will be perfect for a long time, but if they only had to inject say every couple of weeks and in the intervening time didn't have to worry about what foods to consume it would add to quality of life I'm sure.

  • iv been a Type 1 diabetic for 7 years diabetes doesnt stop me from doing anything, except eating certain things im healthier cos i got to watch wot i eat.i dident know elvis had diabetes.

  • diabetes doesnt exactly keep me from doing anything, except eating certain things or as much as id like, but it sure sucks ass. Its actually made alot of my life a wreck, i was going to college and decided to take my career a different direction, then i was told I couldn't stay on my dads health insurance plan....now i have to pay straight up for supplies and my financial and heath status arent so great.....they NEED to find a cure.

  • I just got told in October I have diabetes and before then I never knew about these guys.

  • nick j should be in that video

  • i didnt realize so many stars were diabetics.

    this disease isnt any fun.

i haev had this disease for about 10 years, and im on the pump(minimed paradigm 712). i dont see how its a good thing... it keeps me from doing a lot of things i wanna do.

i have met the nararator guy in this video. i met him at camp last summer. he actually attanded the camp i go to several years ago.

  • I'm a 13 year olf diabetic on a cozmo pump.

  • Wow i dident know elvis had diabetes

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Type 1 diabetes doesn't go away like Type 2 can go away, but it is highly manageable. Those who complain so much need to learn to be more sensitive to their bodies. If you learn to do that, then you'll never get a low again. And, of course, always have candy with you. It's simple enough.

  • Elvis preshley i had no idea. but are they all type 1 diabetics

  • i think so

  • i have diabetes 1 which means im on 5+ injections a day but u get used to it i think its discriminating to not use people for films i can see why they do it because ifa diabetic has a hypo and starts fitting directors lose time to film

  • how do u forget nick jonas i mean really. dont do such things to my future husband.

  • I have type 1, and it is hell

  • They forgot about Wilford Brimley and his "Diabetus"

  • Nick Jonas is a hero to all diabetics.

he gives me so much strength & hope with my diabetes. Stay Strong Nick<3

  • Oh hi im a diabetic too! nick may not be my favorite singer but hes cool.

  • maybe it would be interesting if they had/have diabetes type 1 or diabetes type 2...

    for all who doesn't know...

  • Never knew elvis had diabetes

  • nick jonas has diebetes<####

  • I can't believe that having diabetes could hurt actors in getting casted. I mean, just because they have it doesn't change how good they are at their job. Obviously if they're out there trying to make it then they know that they can do it.

  • wow..im shocked that halle berry and elvis has diabetes, never knew

well Nick Jonas should get a hollywood star, he achieved so much at so young!!and he has diabetes at a very young age..

    but everyones staying strong right?

  • 2 things.

    1. How could you not know about elvis? ..:|

    2. Nick Jonas has diabetes?? O.o wow

  • I knew about Halle Berry, Elvis Presley and a few other diabetic stars, but quite honestly the most touching story in this video is the one towards the end of the video, where the actor talks about the way he's felt on set while being low, and how he's coped with it.
