Kremcoins get you access to the Lost World (mandatory for 102% completion), banana coins are general currency amongst the DK family, and the DK coins were hidden in the levels by Cranky Kong to measure your status as a video game hero (not needed for 102%, but most players get them when aiming for 102% anyway)
The music to these Bayou/Marsh levels was the shit

There's another DK coin like, that, but they made it even harder to get from the end target.

DK Coin of grossness. =(

I like when the invincibility sound effect starts to echo after a while. I still don't know why that happens.

The invincibility SFX runs over multiple sound channels. When the second set it free, it's the same sound just slightly delayed (echo).
The second set is constantly getting occupied by other sounds like the dropped Mini-Neckys.

Actually, the final DK coin gets you 102% because you win it at the end of the final stage.

True, I actually forgot about that DK coin, but I'm pretty sure the last 2% comes from just beating K. Rool both times, though I could be wrong.

I remember watching a speed run of this game and this level was the only level the player died on

I know they're officially called a Cat'O'Nine Tails, so pretty sure it's just a cat with nine tails if I remember the instruction booklet.
Yes, I am one of the few who bothers to do so I know this. :P

Hehe, I think they're meant to be a more demented version of Sonic or something. They always got me too, damn things.
