  • Just to let people know, Alf Pirolo is an anagram for April Fool. :(

  • where can you find Hornby's Live Steam Model Train sets?

  • I can see your resoning for that and it is to make the loco non-live steam but still let it work on the live steam controler. Here is my question- Why cant you make the live steam loco DCC but it still use the steam. Connect the regulator motor to the motor output and connect the boiler straight to the DCC track power?

  • @wtierce1 - Not enough power to boil the water in the boiler.

  • What's the point? The idea is to convert it to drive using the steam, but with DCC, so you can call up the live steam one instead of the standard one and rdrive it - but with steam as the power.

  • @sparkshot gotcha!!!! did you notice the date at the end of the video and what is Alf Pirolo an anagram of? (except maybe you are not in the UK and you dont have Alf Pirolo in which case apologies!)

Seriously though, I run the OOLiveSteam Club and am thoroughly stricken. If you are a fan too please join - its free - and maybe we can get Hornby to make some more.

  • @OOLiveSteam I have a hornby live steam locomotive and it is great fun even when it breaks I will use it as pushplay locomotive but If hornby can't make the steam powered ones anymore then why don't they just make a DCC locomotive but instead of a regular DCC controller use the controller that the live steam uses.It would make the DCC drivin locomotives alot more fun to run and it would be like driving a live steam but you are actually driving a DCC locomotive. Please suggest this idea to hornby.

  • What is the pint of doing that? You make it so it will not operate on live steam ever again? You would have to be stupid... oh wait I get it now it's a joke haha! I will find whoever actually does this modification to their live steam engine and I will take it from them. You have been warned.

  • OR.. Buy a DCC Fitted Flying Scotsman. Just throwing that out there!

  • when you convert it to DCC does it still produce steam as in the title Live Steam?

    Jack

  • I have the DC power track like in this video. Will it work with the Hornby live steam?

  • Wont the chip get damaged if you drive it live steam again? Live steam gets hot

Also is it easy to change from live steam to dcc cause then when the train needs to cool down for refueling you could just drive it on dcc.

  • Does the April 1st mean it's a joke?

  • @Nevawake I might owe you an apology nevawake, upload date should read April 1st but it turned out youtube time was one hour behind UK!

If you are good at anagrams see what you can get out of Alf Pirolo.

    PS Long Live Live Steam

  • @OOLiveSteam no me who should apolagies. too much emotion from me. its not all pointless but i thought long and hard whether to get live steam but in the end i relaized i wasnt having real fun out of just normal electric. too actually use controls to run a live steam is awsome. and a train that propells from steam! Awsome. Im waiting for golden fleece in teh mail and flying scottsman and controller. cant wait. might make an out door layout. anyway. i should leave emotion out of it. if im tired.

  • @Nevawake if you can't run your live steam with steam any more then you can get it converted to this. so you can still have fun with your live steam locomotive and even though your live steam locomotive can't run on steam it can still be used and it can still pull trains for you and it can still sretch its wheels and it wont have to be thrown away.once it breaks on DCC just use it as a push locomotive if you don't want to do that you can put it on a shelf for display.

  • Very well done, thank you for your explanations!

Very interesting, have a nice weekend.

  • Why bother with having a live steam if u do that to it???? Live Steam is awsome because of the steam. Why not insulate a loop from ur layout and just leave that as a live steam only line and leave your poor live steam alone and unmolested and if you really want a flying scott or mallard on dcc go out and buy one aswell as they are not very expensive compared to those beautiful live steam engines.

  • Ha ha love it

  • Ha Ha love ti

  • @ekmad Yes - in the same way that the real steam locomotives were replaced 40 years ago with electric or diesel then you can now have these smelly, dirty, time consuming, cleaning and maintenance hungry anachronisms brought right up to date!

What could be better than turn the knob and off she goes! A brilliant idea dont you think?

  • @OOLiveSteam Check the date!!!!!

  • To good to be true but I admit it could be a real challange for the Hornby engineers to solve that. /Speedy Train
