  • Another #1 hit for The Godfather of Soul on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 255th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #18 on the Top 40 charts. It's hard to believe that James Brown left this world 5 years ago. There will never be anyone like him again.

  • I think the greatest part is that I really never really know what he is saying.

  • the instruments make me happy nowadays its only beats and stuff

  • como pueo desacargar los videos en you tube me urge please!!

  • Never could understand a damn thing he was say, but they sure were funky!

  • let's keep moving! Enjoy the day ..

  • Style and talent. He should have been eternal, you can feel the vibe!

  • @Kudell46and2 He is eternal! :)

  • Where can I get me a suit like hes? Would like to know. I would not even compare todays music to 60s and 70s music which is much better than snoop shit. I am a teen and dig this music. Wish they played this in clubs still keep the go gos and get rid of Bieber

  • DID THEY EVER BURY THAT MUTHA FUCKERS GOOD FOOT, THEY LET HIM LAY AROUND LONG ENOUGH THAT HIS FUCKING BAD FOOT ROTTED CLEAN OFF - AWWW, NEVER MIND, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.

  • 4 people got on the bad foot.

  • JAMES BROWN LEGACY EXPANDED 30 YEARS -HE WAS POPULAR IN THE 50'S-60'S- AND 70'S HOW MANY ARTIST CAN SAY THAT

  • A whole era of the very BEST music has passed...l just so glad l was around at the time to be able to appreciate it and have a good time!! and glad that it's alive and well here on utube!!!

  • o rei do pop

  • I MSS THESE DAYS OF REAL TALENT

  • All the members of his band were having fun and moving to the music with their own moves. Almost as much fun to watch the band perforn as watching them as The great James.

  • Great Song!!!!! Got a secret to tell you all. James Brown is Lil' John's daddy. James would say something to Lil' John and Lil' John would say WHAT!!!!!!!!.

  • Got a secret to tell you all. James Brown is Lil' John's daddy.

  • James brown is the most sampled musician in hip hop.

  • this a band rght here

  • he was a true hustler no need to show off :)

  • he was a true hustler no need to show off :)

  • You never see him grab his crotch, 'cuz he doesn't have to!!!!!

  • was a good legend

  • did you see the trumpeter at 1.30 spin his trumpet lol awesome! this is such a good breakin tune

  • for real james brown was a muchhhh better dancer than michael jackson, michael jackson did always did the same steps but james brown always danced different

  • @gigihitman all props to the Godfather but no need to be hatin' on ma Mike... ;)

  • they don't make music like this anymore.

they never will again...not in our lifetime anyway.

im only 30 and i know that.

    this here is the man!

  • sorry but i really have to hate james brown...

i just hate him so much for being sooooo great.

    goosebumps all over my body!

  • he came from great poverty and serious abuse,, you gotta respect the man for having such balls and character,, God Bless you Boss,,, xx

  • @spadge321 totally agree. it takes a lot of strength and discipline to get where JB got. one of the greatest musicians of the past century.

  • If you like James Brown, you'd like his modern incarnation Karl Denson

  • @mpwelk Karl Denson is mostly pretty boring slow easy listening Neo-soul/fusion jazz lite funk. his beats are overall too slow... he doesn't pump it out like Brown. i think Denson is talented but i find that kind of music sleeeper town. just my opinion. james brown was punk rock of his genre... he had punch and gut. it came from his crotch, not just his heady. Denson sounds heady but doesn't sound primal.

  • Always and only...on the good foot.

  • Where are the subtitles?

  • I feel really bad for the kids who are going to have to listen to music in the future it will be horrible . I love hip hop,but now everything is hip hop or so called hip hop and thees kids minds are warped with garage like Little Wayne. What happened to the days when there was no black or white radio. Everybody played everything like MJ Prince Madonna ect. I guess those days are long gone . I still love music though.

  • @judgeshrimp I'm only in my twenties but trying my best to teach my nieces and all kids around me to listen to the old (real) music. Someone's got to help them through this time of talentless, soundeffect-reliying, soulless music... u get my point :)

  • Why don't we get to see JB's feet? JB was four things: Voice, energy, the "one", and, not least, his dancing! But I can't see him dancing and I wonder if I am missing something.

  • can some one translate what james is saying lol. gotta love you some mr brown

  • @ronsande James used to be very articulate in the 60's and 70's. It wasn't until his drug use in the 1q980's, that he became hard to comprehend. Listen to some of his speaches from the 60's and 70's.

  • i love james, but i dont like his speed up proformces, they dont have the feeling

  • @fro164 I totally agree. But his concerts were amazing anyway.

  • where did those characters appear (the ones from the very beginning)? i cant remember where i saw them a long time ago, when i was little, and it's driving me crazy

  • To digdado, was this from Montreal, circa 1983? Cause it looks like the Palladium on Berri street, and that Pearl drum kit on the left would be mine. The band i was in that year was the opening act. They couldn't get both kits across the border, so i was asked if they could use mine. Sure as hell looks like it!

  • @Jiboplexer

This is in Berlin, Germany, 1988.

  • What can you say about James - unbelievable - but check out that BAND!!! No digital loops, click tracks, samples, just live musicians DOIN' IT TO DEATH! The sound quality on this isn't the greatest, but you can tell how incredibly tight they are. I was lucky enough to see JB twice in the '80s - both times I was blown away by his showmanship and the quality of the band.

  • James Brown is the originator is the point. He is the one that planted the seeds for many Black entertainers in addition to defining the genre of many styles of funk, blues, and its variations. Just read about his history. The guy didn't have the more hits on the charts than any other entretainer by just luck!!...

  • the original is always the BEST!

  • What did James Brown stop doing the splits?

  • It's just a crime ,that the studio version is just 1;23 minutes long. This must be one of the most infecteous grooves around.

  • gimmie that soul power brother James

  • @bboy69---thankfully you didn't create spellin' and grammar.

  • yeahhhh mannn this is the real king right here..its a shame how blacks never got credit for anythng we done..lke for exmple we creatied the guitar.we orginaly used it for blues..then som e dum whte guy came and made it his idea..then latter turned into satanic crap.and emmoness. but on another note james brown is the kingg

  • actually, the guitar originates from Greek kithara, central Asian tanbur and sitar, then Roman cithara and Italian viola da mane, then the Spanish and Portuguese created guitars that have the greatest resemblance of modern guitar. Electric guitar is one of the greatest invention of all time, and modern rock, metal jazz, funk, fusion have some mind blowing tunes

I agree on the black metal satanic thing, though

  • you must be stuck in the 60's man....seriously, relax

  • @bboydizzy69 The guitar has been around for hundreds of years. in countries of every race. spain, england, fance, egypt and other many african countries. Black slaves did not invent the guitar.

  • James Brown IS YOUR DADDY111

  • Soul Brotha #1 = automatic 5 pies! OOOOO

    thx4postage :)

  • the king of pops teacher!!

  • LOVE

  • don't talk any shit in the same breath as the words

    james brown

    rest in peace

    love

    harpreet

  • look at the sugar hill gang and grandmaster flash then look at lil wayne and soulja boy. theres a big difference. old skool is good and todays ganhsta shit is shit.

  • @NoobGames101 a-fucking-men brother

  • @NoobGames101 you right about that!

  • James Brown died following hospitalisation for pneumonia. The charismatic and colorful entertainer was a good friend of Elvis', attending his funeral in Memphis in 1977. Brown's frenetic singing style and bold rhythms brought funk into the mainstream and influenced a new generation of black music.

"Elvis and I are the only true American originals. I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There'll never be another like that soul brother." - James Brown. (1933 -2006) R.I.P.

  • thats surprising that jb said elvis was an original, he was a white face singing what was then considered "black" music

  • Now jb was not exactly the biggest spokes man for black americas cause sure he had opinions but he wasn´t exactly a black panter.

  • i think he was a mediator, like he always promoted "im black and Im proud" as being proud of who you are, pride in yoursefl not really a dividing sort of pride. i just dont think elvis was very original, talented yes, soulful yes, but talented not exactly

  • mr. brown and mr. presley is the shit!! lol screw the performers today.

  • hip hop is like dr suess talking about the "projects"...

  • hahaha

well i do like hip hop, but that's a funny analogy

  • Suess?

  • the cat in the hat ?

  • LEGEND JAMES BROWN!

  • god damn ! that guy is on the good foot... lol

  • fuck rap, fuck hip hop, fuck todays music in general.

  • Hip hop is heavily based on the rhythms that James Brown laid down in the 60's and 70's...if you hate hip hop, you're hating on James.

  • hip hoppers can base their music on whatever they like, james brown had more talent in the hair on his arse than a thousand rappers collectively would have collectively. that said i must admit i dont mind public enemy, de la soul and all the old 'party ' hip hop. its the gangsta shit i cant stand.

  • but true hip hop .. not that crap f*ck shit nowadays like lil waynez and lil bitches !!

  • @TaiFajzon lol look at nowadays rappers and hip hop'ers. 500 million views, this guys 286,373 views,

  • Never know what the fuck James be saying lol. (Eddie Murphy Raw)

  • its actually delerious, but whatever both are awesome=)

  • MY Bad, I meant Eddie Murphy Delirious lol.

  • gettin in daHOTtub!!

  • okaaaaaaaaaay??????????

  • He was the BEST ever!

  • Just listen to this song...The man is rapping. THIS is this first rap recording. The studio recording is slower tempo. The rap flow and cadence really comes out better. With out JB no Micheal Jackson or Rap music

  • People were rapping long before JB. Pigmeat markham (sp?) for one.

But that's not to downplay JB's influence. He created funk and funk spawned almost all subsequent black music trends, including hip-hop (not to be confused with rap).

  • Whats the difference between rap and hip hop?

  • Rap is a vocal style, hip-hop is a musical style.

    Rap pre-dated hip-hop considerably, I believe.

  • hip hop is the undiluted culture..the non commercial version of the art form......many call it the ole boom bap....krs-one(return of the boom bap cd is an great example). tla-rock...old LL, etc......underground hip hop....tribe called quest....Rap music is the softer diluted radio friendly version of hip hop...and Hip Hop is the culture of what some live by....rhyme battles, hard beats, original hooks, cutting, break dancing, tagging art on the wall, dope lyrics and subject matter.

  • ok cool...thanx

  • Rap is business music, Hip Hop is cultural music. when I was growing up it was about the DJ,the writer's(Graffiti),the MC(rapper),& Bboyin'(Breakdancing). All of that now has been put to the side because the "Rappin" makes the most money & America has capatalized on this very well.

  • These guys have no idea what they are talking about. So, allow me explain it.

Hip Hop is the culture. Rap is the music. By that I mean, the Hip Hop philosophy includes various art forms. Four of them to be more precise. Graffiti, Breakdance, DJing and Rapping. Rap simply means 'Rhyme and Poetry'. Add yourself a DJ and you've got a party. So basically, the DJ takes care of the instrumentals and the MC of the lyrics. Take Gangstarr as an example, with Premo on the beats and Guru on the lyrics.

  • i agree with you, there has been a foundation laid out for us....learn it and enjoy it, cuz when you are a student of hip hop u enjoy life

  • I was gonna see him at the Metropolis in Montreal, but he died 8 days before that show. I really feel like I've missed out on a show that would've probably been on my "top 5 all-time best shows I've ever seen" list.

  • I saw him in London in 2005 and that show was easily the best concert, or one of the best concerts, I ever saw.

I saw him a few times during the last few years of his career, but that particular show was awesome.

  • Godfather I miss you so!!!

    RIP James Brown

    Nobody does it like you.

  • I hate dopey camera men who avoid focusing on Mr. Brown when he's dancing (i.e., 1:18)! In fact, for a large portion of this video Mr. Brown is hardly on the camera. Michael Jackson has been quoted saying pretty much the same thing...only he used to through things at the TV when he was little and the cameraman wouldn't show Mr. Brown's feet.

  • You're right SigfridKargElert......dumb-ass camera man!!!! G-MAG

  • No one can touch this! His music has influenced all contemporary genres, and will for a long time to come!!!

  • Look at The Muthafuckin' Black Godfather!

    May God Bless His Soul

  • What year is this?...guessing '86-'87..?

  • The long haired Hippy and the Afro Black

all get together across the track and they party!!

  • yup i can groove and i like this song this is the song that started breaking i love it

  • Well so this is The Song where bboying started?? Ow man...

  • It's too fast, can't really enjoy the groove when its this fast!

  • Yeah kinda fast. But there are many versions of varying speeds on Youtube to choose from.

I've been to 3 JB concerts and fast does work for a live show!

  • If the crowd is really hyped up, it could work..that's true.

  • james brown was the man!!!

  • BERLIN

  • Great performance from where, when?

Maybe my favorite JB stage attire, also. Maybe 1987?

Typical hyperactive editing still doesn't hurt the funk. Horrible lighting doesn't help, though.

  • I agree. Whenever I went to see James, it was to see and hear him and the band. Although this was a top notch performance, the camera angle was terrible and you barely get a chance to see him perform.

  • Thanks. I just bought the 2-concert DVD incl. NYC '80. Have U seen the c. 1971 live clip of "It's a New Day" live at the Apollo on youtube or on a commercial DVD?

    Thanks again, Ensconse

  • omg you are so rite about the camera man,but the band is on point!!!

  • The music doesn't sound bad thoug

  • You didn't miss anything I have this Video.he didn't dance

  • del james brown cantas muy bien si muy

  • stupid idiot camera man kept taking video of the other member. what a fucking dickhead. now we cant see james brown dance =.= worst fucking camera man ever!

  • you can say that again...
