@yup703 it's to prevent the fungus "Cylindrocarpon destructans" which can spread from tree to tree via root contact. The fungus makes the wood rotten, and no good for construction timber.
@982132 hey thanks for the response.. I figured it was to stop any suckers that may come from any hardwoods that would sprout but to stop rot makes more sence ..
