I saw Wishbone Ash in Columbus, Ohio in 1973 with The Climax Blues Band as the opening act. Argus is a masterpiece. However, I would not cross the street to see this lineup. Two competing lineups is one too many. Put your differences aside for the sake of the fans and for the material,or retire!
Slightly bluesier feel than the original. I love Ash and Argus is arguably my favourite ever album. I don't think the vocals on this quite do it justice. Still worth listening to though.

Andy is a good guitarist yes but he's also an egomanical twat!
I've seen wishbone ash come and go over the years and if Andy doesn't get things his way the teddy goes flying out of his pram. His arrogance and patronising attitude to others belies why the other original members of WA left him in his own "look at me" role.
einfach nur geil...denke die sind heute nochn tick besser, oder? dieser manni manninen passt super zu andy. Habe sie Anfang 2009 in der Kantine in Köln gesehen...das war grandios...
This boring American was introduced to WA, AP, MT, TT and SU live in London 1970, and its later iterations. 39 years later, their music continues to haunt my innards with its beauty, and its ability to strike the note that rattles the soul, even if time has not been the friend of vocal ranges and fretboard speed.
Plz transcend the legal and the technical bickering and enjoy the gift of creative experience from the masters of the genre - your support is their continued encouragement to excel.
People have been slagging off Martin Turner because 'his vocals are not what they were' - shock horror, the dude's no longer 25...
Sorry, but as much as I like Andy Powell - no one can say this is a good vocal performance.
It's Martin Turner's voice on Argus and he continues to sing this song to this day. That's why more and more people will side with his version. He's just a bit behind in the game, that's all.
Before I start, I would like to point out that I am not American.
What you are doing here is applying 1 set of rules to MT & a different set to AP. In fact, what you are saying is "MT is in this position, so his vocals are fine, AP in in the same position, but his vocals arent". I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous.
Andys vocals were also on this song in Argus, and he continues to sing this song (In fact, he has more right to do it than MT). If you want to support MTWA, then do so on his vids
That's a little ironic seeing as so many people (or is it just two) spend a lot of time slagging off MTWA.
Two questions:
Why does AP 'have more of a right' to sing this song? (I think you'll find millions of WA fans love Argus as it was - with Martin Turner singing on it )
If the 'rest of the band' wanted to replace Martin Turner with someone else as has been claimed how come AP hasnt ever had a lead singer?
I'm particularly interested in your response to 2.
1) AP has more of a right to all WA songs as without him, WA would have folded in the 90s, MT left WA, AP didn't
2) this is not fantastically worded, (probably typeos) but i will answer as well as I can (well, the way I interprited it): When MT left WA, Spam Spence came in, he was lead vocalist as well as bassist.
If you have no issue with AP, then that's fine. As a musician, I have no problem with MT.
You seem to think APs vocals should be the same as MTs on the Argus album. They aren't.
1) irrelevant - can someone please change this record
2) you're missing the point. others here have said that the other members of the band wanted MT to step down from singing duties because his vocals were 'not up to it' (10000s of fans disagree and love the band as much for MT as the guitars) - my point is - if andy didnt take over vocal duties then why hasnt he got a lead singer today?
i kinda know about the band - first saw them in 1976.
1) Hardly irrelevant, THERE WOULD BE NO WA without Andy sticking with WA, when times got tough, he stuck in, MT left. Someone change this recore? What are you on about? It's fact. MT fans don't like it because they have no answer for it.
2) Just because other people say that, it does not mean it is fact. Now I know what you meant, Andy did eventually take over as lead vocalist, but that was because he was the natural choice.
Regerdless, I doubt MT will be willing to talk to AP again.
1) Bollocks - if WA had stopped totally for a number of years ANY member could have begun again. The fact that andy kept it going has no bearing on whether MT 'should' or 'has the right to' play his music now.
2) I don't understand your point - i thought mine was quite clear but obviously not
and yes, it's a shame they have fallen out but i do know that 'MT fans' love WA but so many fans of andy's version hate MT - it's all fear, believe me.
1) Hardly - if WA had stopped, I doubt any of the members would have restarted WA.
I'm not saying MT should not play WA songs, he was involved in making them, he has a right to perform them. I do, however, have an objection to him illegally using the WA name, it started out as MTs Wishbone, then MTWA, them WA featuring MT, now he's just calling it WA. Illegally.
2) Other people say band WA members wanted MT out, doesn't mean it's fact. Oh, and there is no AP version, it is WA. AP has it by law
Man, I love Wishbone Ash, Argus is one of my favourite albums ever, but my god this performance is downright depressing! So lethargic, no energy. It's such a shame. Hey, all you guys slamming the other negative comments, to hail this performance is to insult the masterpiece this song is on the album. Down with unshakable blind loyalty!
I find nothing wrong with the performance of this song, or the camera work, just the sound. Give me a few days and I will show you the same band and the same song, from a few years earlier, filmed by me. Lets see what the people say then
Ok, go away. Martin was the main reason the band never took off in the first place. This was evident when the 3 original members decided to relegate him into a lower role. Bob Skeat is definitely a good bass player and a great man to boot. Now, for this video, great camera work, but the sound could have been better. Shoulda got with J Winder on this. Yeah, I know what I am talkin about as I have filmed many of WA concerts in this same era, and have done colaborations with Jon.
The bass guitar 'stinks' because the balance wasn't right. If you were there you would realise how good Bob actually was. If you've got a problem, get lost.
Andy..he is great on rhytm guitar and as a leader of the band, but he shoudln't play long solo part in my opinion ... this one is a little boring, but overall good version of this beatuful song.
I personally prefer Andy's vocals. Hope they keep rocking for next 40 years.
