  • its Turkish city since 1453. hey Turkish haters, if you want to take it back, just try it !

  • Stop arguing. The fact is simple: Now it's Istanbul not Constantinople

  • SİNCE 1453 :)

  • @ottomanlifestyle You dont even know word Istanbul is coming from "stan poli". Your nickname is ottomanstyle but you dont even know ottomans call the city Konstantiniyye or Der Saadet Ottomans never called the city istanbul. It is Istanbul since 1936 it has nothing to do with ottomans and it is lie that name istanbul is coming from islambol....Who taught you history that aren't you Turkish? You never been to primary school??????

  • what a voice

  • Captain144

  • amk yunanlıları ananzın amına koyarım valla öle istanbul muş hayalleri kurmayı kesin ananızın amında görürsünüz siz istanbulu :) amk yalamaları sizi

  • Okay, you Turks out there, time to spill the beans! Just why did Constantinople get the works, Huh?

  • @ArizonaKnightWolf Because the Byzantine Empire fell and the Ottomans thought calling it "In the City" was cool.

  • @PyroK8 Ottomans never called the city as Istanbul it become Istanbul when Turkish repubblic is founded. Btw when there were greeks city's name was Byzantium or stan poli... Constantinopolis is a Roman name ;)

  • @DjLegoman Your first sentence is quite true, although the lower social classes used to call it Istanbul long before 1923.

    Your second sentence is wrong:

    1. The name Eis ten Polin (εἰς τὴν Πόλιν) was used by the Turks paraphrased as Istanbul & not by the Greeks.

    2. Constantinople (Κωνσταντινούπολις) is a greek word. It comes from the words Constantine (Κωνσταντῖνος, Κωνσταντίνου in the genitive possessive case) + πόλις (=city). Originally it was 2 words: Κωνσταντίνου Πόλις, later it became 1.

  • @Lhein33 Konstantino was a Roman emperor. So name is roman.Greek became official language later in East Roman empire. Islambol is a Turkish lie. "Bol" means "full of" so it cant be arabic. If some guys insisting on that the name istanbul came from Islambol we can laugh together... Eis ten Polin always been used thru history. How can you even think that the Turks use that word? If it means "to the city" natives should use it. We all know people call it eis ten polin at least last 2000 years....

  • @DjLegoman The name Constantine is indeed latin (<constantia = stability) but the word polis (2nd part of the word) is 100% greek and the name was create by greek speaking people and is declined according to the greek grammar.

The phrase eis ten Polin means "to the City". No Greek could have named Constantinople "to the City". Imagine someone saying: "In come from To The City". It's stupid. The Greeks simply used to call it "The City" and the Turks paraphrased the name and made it Istanbul.

  • @Lhein33 Dear Friend Konstantin was a Roman emperor and he gave his name to the city in AD 330. Napoli, Konstatinopoli :). Roman empire was using Latin :) Everyone knows that!

Byzantium was a "polis" also :). makes sense

And i really can't understand why you insist on Turks using a greek word. Eis ten polin is in greek. Turks came around AD1100.. If you think it's name is not Istanbul I am sorry but Istanbul has always been one of the names...It is coming from a greek word so let it go.

  • @DjLegoman I just said that the name Constantinople (Κωνσταντινούπολις) comes from 2 different words: One latin (Constantinus) and the other greek (polis-πόλις). I didn't say that Constantinople WAS a polis (city); I said that it has the greek WORD polis inside it. So, it's partly greek, not only latin. It was made by greek speaking people and lot by latin speaking.

  • @Lhein33 I try explain 2 things: 1- Name Istanbul is used decades b4 the name Constantinople. It is a greek word. 2- Both greek and turkish nationalists are wrong. Turkish nationalists think the name is coming from islambol and greek think the real name is Constinople. If i was a greekman i would love the name Istanbul. Btw latin evolved from greek so latins were using "polis" also.. Anyway I am from Istanbul and Greeks,Romans,Byzantines,Ottomans,Turks,Armenians,Jews. We are Istanbul...

  • @DjLegoman You are 100% wrong. The name Constantinople was first used during the 5th century AD in honor of Constantine the Great. The name Istanbul was first used during the 10th century. Which is older? Do you know any text that uses the name Istanbul before the 10th cent?

The name Istanbul indeed comes from a greek phraset. But it is a name created by people who didn't speak greek & paraphrased the greek phrase. A greek speaking man could have never used the phrase eis ten Polin as a name.

  • @Lhein33 Your logic is wrong. If you accept the word is originally greek why you insist??? Constantino name the city: Nova Roma. Because he was a Roman emperor. B4 inhabitants were speaking in greek and they were going to the city!!! (which is eis ten poli) so the name Istanbul came from that one. Today calling the city as Istanbul fills the historical background, the spirit ecc. If you are a greek you should call the city byzantium not Constantinople coz Byzantium is its Greek name. :)

  • @DjLegoman My nationality has nothing to do with history and I didin't say I call the city Constantinople (I just said that the Greeks have a "right" to call it thus). About the time priority, I think you agreed I am right.

About the phrase eis ten Polin, let me explain what I mean: The phrase is 100% greek & it means "to the City". But, the name is Istanbul was CREATED by non Greeks. It's a paraphrase. The Arabs etc were listening to the Romans saying "to the City" and created the name Istanbul

  • @Lhein33 Constantinople is a "Roman" city not "Greek". Emperor Severus burned and captured the greek city called Byzantium to build a new Roman city coz they were not paying tax.(2nd century). Than Constantino build his new capital Nova Roma in 330. So the city of Contantino has nothing to do with "greek roots".

If you think it is greeks "right" to call the city as "The city of Constantino" you are right. But why greeks call it under a Roman Emperor's name?

  • @Lhein33 arabs and turks speak completely different languages :). Back to history Istanbul was "The Polis". Not byzantium, not constantinople ecc. So in greek language people always call it "to the city". You are not from istanbul, you don't know this but we still call it that way. We only call Istanbul where it's founded BC 5th century as Byzantium... So why greeks call it Constantinople? because it has religious importance it has nothing to do with your theories..

  • best version yet

  • thumbs up if lindybeige brought you here.

  • @Wikingersohn93 lindybeige is awesome, but I detest this kind of comment. Thumbs down.

  • @Wikingersohn93 Yes it him

  • @mordechaimordechai It was him

  • Good stuff.

  • @patotas666 I am <3

  • Great vocal arrangements. I thought it was very deserving of the song to be played that way. Although... I do think the big band could have sounded better, honestly the band was not impressive, and Yeah I know it's the style and all... but another big band could have done a better job. I hate to say that of a big band but it sounds like they weren't trying and they held the signer back if anything. Her voice is amazing! compliment it! really... who did they hire? I swear I heard mistakes

  • @JacX1

I swear.. her voice is spot on. but IT'S THE BAND! it's way too weak. Why the fuck is it held back so much!?!? it's like not even loud. that beginning is so weak. LOUDER! more Energy guys. your not playing at a retirement facility.

  • Wonderful!

  • Recognize something of "Putting on the Ritz" here ?

  • awesomeee

  • Very nice voice. Why didn't they finish the song?

  • @shannon1234550 It says in the description, "You are listening to a preview of the CD Second Season, from Wave Mechanics Union." The key word being preview.

  • i want the mp3 for this!

  • what is the original song?

  • What's amusing is that someone thinks they're performing "Classic Rock" updated as swing... when this song was originally recorded in 1953 by lite-jazz vocal quartet The Four Lads... it's not a TMBG song.
