On hydros if the power goes out between floors it will normally go to the bottom (no power needed for going down) and the interlock will release, door operator wont work but you'd be able to push it open like here, you got lucky in the sense that it had already finished going up and had parked on the top floor.

Worst that happened to me is an elevator took eons to level, and I thought I was stuck. It was a Monty hydro, but Schindler got their hands on it ('Nuff said).

Thank god the door opened a little enough during the power outage that you were able to open it. It would suck if it got stuck between floors, or before the interlock could release
