I used to think the National Initiative was a good thing, but now I'm second guessing it. I don't trust the Republican voter base. They are the most easily manipulated and brainwashed part of our society, and I question their judgement and ability to logically and rationally vote for or against legislation. I think there's a big problem with the amount of money that's "required" for a "successful" campaign nowadays. Also, the amount of time allotted to the various candidates during the debates has not been allocated fairly--to say the least. This amounts to unfair campaign donations by the major networks sponsoring the debates. This should be illegal in a democracy.
