@wiganerrmc Nope only 13- Type 26. We will have 19 Frigates and Destroyers in total. We are replacing the Type 23 with Type 26's one for one from 2020 then there is the possibility of getting Global Corvettes and UXV Combatant (Basically a Destroyer) I'm not sure where you have heard about the Type 27- I suggest you look on the Royal Navy website. I wish that we did have 20+ frigates then more destroyers on top but we don't and the chances are we won't we'll let the US and China rule the waves.

@wiganerrmc I'm not saying that we're not getting newer (non combat) ships but the new mine sweepers etc will not be Type 26's because they're 5,000-6,000 tonne frigates. It would be stupid to build a mine sweeper that big and yes I am aware that we might be getting Ocean going Corvettes but they haven't even been designed yet (only the Type 26) is in the process of being designed. And I doubt it will be "Loads more" because thanks to the Labour gmt we can't afford "many more"!!!

@USAmilitarypower It has been partially designed by BAE Systems, and it will be used as a Destroyer or a UAV/UCAV carrier when needed. That's the thinking behind only having 6 Type 45's for now. As far as I know the MoD hasn't ordered any yet but I think that they will due to us only buiding 6 Type 45's. So yes they're real but they have not been built.

We're not getting Fremms by the way- only the French and possibly (I think) the Italians have those. Corvettes I'm not sure about- I don't think that it'll happen until the 2030's atleast and the FSC is now the Type 26 Frigate (Future) look it up for more info. And we're getting new Ballistic Missile (Nuclear weapons) subs sometime after 2016. 6 Type 45's (3 in service) for now and 13 Type 26's for now, planned.
i love the Royal Navy's little jump jet carriers, lauching about 10-15 harriers to harrass bigger boats, but the USN is by far the msot powerful navy on the planet with 8 supercarriers, and 2 massive super super carriers. we also have cruise missile frigates capable of decimating entire battle groups. USN super carriers are big enough to take up to 6 or 7 hits from tomahawk cruise missiles before they are knocked out of the fight, but even then they dont sink, they go home and get fixed :D
@ShowPolitics the carriers pay for themselves, the money saved by not having to maintain a large air force base in every area of the world, the carriers also last longer than they are useful, so the chance of having to replace one before its obsolete is minimal. and when you think about it, one ship that can engage and defeat An enemy battlegroup, is very cost effective, the carrier is easily as expensive as the cruiser the USN deploys, plus escorts and millions of $ of planes+fuel/munitions. :)

@MUJUNKY They can (Could) carry 30 Harriers at a push and if the Harriers are so bad why do the USMC use them? Yes our carriers were small but two of them have gone and the other is being used as a Helicopter Assult Ship. Our two new ones will be much bigger (not as big as the Nimitz class though) and will use stealth technology. They will also use the F-35's. And yes the US Navy is the largest in the world but the Royal Navy, although not the second largest, is the 2nd best in the world.

@TehGodLord You do know that we update the technology in our carriers, right? We just updated all of our carriers with the latest radar, and put in 3 of the latest defense systems. Only the body of the carrier is old, everything else on it isn't even a year old. They get updated just like everything else in our arsenal.

The "lend-lease" debt of WW2 has been paid in full as of 2007.
There is still debt from WW1 that the UK owes the US. And there is still debt from WW1 that other European nations owe the UK. But this debt has practically been confined to the history books now ... you can not "call in" that WW1 debt any more than we can.
No one will ever get that money ... deal with it.

@Outypoo It's just that your measures of nuclear capability and number of nuclear weapons are silly. I'm not saying the super laser guy isn't an idiot troll. But currently a plane mounted laser does exist and its sole purpose is to shoot down missiles. It has a range of a few hundred km and can lock onto a destroy a missile in 8 to 10 seconds.
There is only one plane currently equipped with the Airborne Laser. However the stated goal is to get about a dozen of these Airborne Lasers.

@Outypoo Please don't use video games to prove real world points it doesn't work. The laser systems would be a supplement to a already huge air defense missile system both land based and ship based. Should a couple get through it wouldn't be the end of the world. But given the 35 minute flight time of a intercontinental ballistic missile from Russia or an eastern block country it would take 30 to 35 mins for the missile to reach mainland U.S..

There is just way too much spending that has gone into Cold War type planing and preparation. @wiganerrmc Nope only 13- Type 26. We will have 19 Frigates and Destroyers in total. We are replacing the Type 23 with Type 26's one for one from 2020 then there is the possibility of getting Global Corvettes and UXV Combatant (Basically a Destroyer) I'm not sure where you have heard about the Type 27- I suggest you look on the Royal Navy website. I wish that we did have 20+ frigates then more destroyers on top but we don't and the chances are we won't we'll let the US and China rule the waves.

@wiganerrmc I'm not saying that we're not getting newer (non combat) ships but the new mine sweepers etc will not be Type 26's because they're 5,000-6,000 tonne frigates. It would be stupid to build a mine sweeper that big and yes I am aware that we might be getting Ocean going Corvettes but they haven't even been designed yet (only the Type 26) is in the process of being designed. And I doubt it will be "Loads more" because thanks to the Labour gmt we can't afford "many more"!!!

@USAmilitarypower It has been partially designed by BAE Systems, and it will be used as a Destroyer or a UAV/UCAV carrier when needed. That's the thinking behind only having 6 Type 45's for now. As far as I know the MoD hasn't ordered any yet but I think that they will due to us only buiding 6 Type 45's. So yes they're real but they have not been built.

We're not getting Fremms by the way- only the French and possibly (I think) the Italians have those. Corvettes I'm not sure about- I don't think that it'll happen until the 2030's atleast and the FSC is now the Type 26 Frigate (Future) look it up for more info. And we're getting new Ballistic Missile (Nuclear weapons) subs sometime after 2016. 6 Type 45's (3 in service) for now and 13 Type 26's for now, planned.

i love the Royal Navy's little jump jet carriers, lauching about 10-15 harriers to harrass bigger boats, but the USN is by far the msot powerful navy on the planet with 8 supercarriers, and 2 massive super super carriers. we also have cruise missile frigates capable of decimating entire battle groups. USN super carriers are big enough to take up to 6 or 7 hits from tomahawk cruise missiles before they are knocked out of the fight, but even then they dont sink, they go home and get fixed :D

@ShowPolitics the carriers pay for themselves, the money saved by not having to maintain a large air force base in every area of the world, the carriers also last longer than they are useful, so the chance of having to replace one before its obsolete is minimal. and when you think about it, one ship that can engage and defeat An enemy battlegroup, is very cost effective, the carrier is easily as expensive as the cruiser the USN deploys, plus escorts and millions of $ of planes+fuel/munitions. :)

@MUJUNKY They can (Could) carry 30 Harriers at a push and if the Harriers are so bad why do the USMC use them? Yes our carriers were small but two of them have gone and the other is being used as a Helicopter Assult Ship. Our two new ones will be much bigger (not as big as the Nimitz class though) and will use stealth technology. They will also use the F-35's. And yes the US Navy is the largest in the world but the Royal Navy, although not the second largest, is the 2nd best in the world.

The "lend-lease" debt of WW2 has been paid in full as of 2007.
There is still debt from WW1 that the UK owes the US. And there is still debt from WW1 that other European nations owe the UK. But this debt has practically been confined to the history books now ... you can not "call in" that WW1 debt any more than we can.
No one will ever get that money ... deal with it.

But currently a plane mounted laser does exist and its sole purpose is to shoot down missiles. It has a range of a few hundred km and can lock onto a destroy a missile in 8 to 10 seconds.
There is only one plane currently equipped with the Airborne Laser. However the stated goal is to get about a dozen of these Airborne Lasers.

@Outypoo Please don't use video games to prove real world points it doesn't work. The laser systems would be a supplement to a already huge air defense missile system both land based and ship based. Should a couple get through it wouldn't be the end of the world. But given the 35 minute flight time of a intercontinental ballistic missile from Russia or an eastern block country it would take 30 to 35 mins for the missile to reach mainland U.S..

The US government itself was angry about the whole thing as they were getting screwed by the whole crisis as many US businesses doing business with the EU (in other words, A LOT) were getting messed up. I would rather have free health care though if I was poor than have to pay thousands like in the US. The US economy is huge, it's not easy to grow an economy that is factually approaching $16 trillion.
