No. Hinata fell because of Jyuuken(i think thats it) and they declared the match to Neji, but Neji wanted to continue to try and kill Hinata(Neji is the Black haired, Hinata is the purple-like haired). And they are related. They're cousins, Hinata is from the Main Family, and Neji is from the Branch Family, so Neji can't be the head succesor like Hinata is supposed to be after her father(who thinks shes a disgrace).
I don't really think it was a tribute...in my opinion, tributes are supposed to resemble everything a character does, or acts like. All you really did was show scenes of her fighting Neji in the chuunin exams.
