Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan did not always get along with each other. In fact it seemed like they hated each other, but on the other hand they worked perfectly on the studio albums, and Deep Purple were the greatest live band ever.I think Ian and Ritchie got along alot better than people thought.
I had the privilege of seeing him on this tour. I never in my life thought I'd get to see Gillan solo performed live. He opened with "No Laughing in Heaven", and the rest of the night was heaven
(would you believe there were actually people in the crowd who grumped that he didn't play "Highway Star"?)
hi people. my name is SANDRO SEIXAS and i wanna tell you IAN GILLAN gave his authorization to record one of his brillhant songs called DON´T HOLD ME BACK.
i´m the only brasilian singer that is going to record GILLAN´s song.
my albun is coming up soon. hope you listen to and enjoy. you also can listen to me here in youtube writing KÚRIA- CHILD IN TIME.
fuck yeah! that last scream with vibrato RULES!!! my old singer from Brazil used to sing high from hearing Ian Gillan and later found out about Halford, but I think Gillan did it the best.
I always loved gillan with black sabbath...he is clearly better than ozzy and dio...he blew away them in two seconds...listen to the version of 'black sabbath' or 'war pigs' from worchester '83...just incredible vocals, interpretation and screams...not to mention the studio songs 'born again' and 'disturbing the priest'...
It is really hard for me to get my head around any Deep Purple music without Ritchie Blackmore being involved in it. I am quite certain the other guys have done a fantastic job, but gosh. To me Ritchie IS Deep Purple.
Part of the problem is that Ritchie is a control freak and as far as he was concerned everything had to be done his way or no way. As for what went down I dont know but I know that it was something very serious between Ritchie and Ian Gillan. Even to this day Gillan will not discuss the incident.
Yes, silverhamer I agree. Ritchie always demanded each member play or sing perfect each time be it studio or tour. And he would throw a fit if he felt somebody was having an off night. Plus he wanted a more technical, labor intensive sound.
Black Sabbath's 'Born Again' album was a classic.Funny, alot of pple don't like it.I went to the show back in Oct.'83 and they encored 'Smoke on the Water' I thought it was a great version.
good for you, man - "Born Again" is - in my not-so-humbe opinion - one of THE most underrated albums in metal. Trashed/Keep It Warm/Digital Bitch/Disturbing the Priest - Good Shit, man!
Gillan will always be the Singer for Purple. I'd rather see him at his worst that ever see other singer fronting the band.
It's cool listening to the list of people who guested on Gillans Album. He has a lot of Pull in the Rock world. And they were probably all inspired by Gillan and the Music of Purple.
Couldn't agree more. I feel the same way regarding Jesus Christ Superstar. Gillan MADE that role, and hearing anyone else do it is always disappointing.
At 63yrs old his voice has held up better than anyone close to his age.I saw him recently on his solo tour and his voice was freakin amazing. He can still get it done. Much respect!!
hey man dio's 65 this summer and his voice just keeps gettin better its like a fine wine him, freddie mercury and ian are in a whole different league to anyone else in my opinion
Check out "Clear Air Turbulance" from Gillan's 70's post Purple time. I still have original in collection. Also, for Purple fans, "Paice, Ashton& Lord" album " Malice in Wonderland". Auch, Coverdale's " Northwinds".
Choosing who I want to play Smoke on the Water? Well that's simple - Ritchie Blackmore.
Honestly... Gillan and Blackmore are absolute tools for not working with each other. The best music they ever made (or ever will make) was when they worked together.
They're both guilty. I mean... Blackmore's Night?? WHAT THE FUCK!? Grow a pair Blackmore, stop playing with your wife and get Ian on the phone.
I'm 18 and male and this guy is my idol=) he's every year weaker on his vocal, but he did a great job in his life. I also admire him because he has so much energy at this age.
ian gillan is my hero, i love him in purple and sabbath, and dio and ozzy are my favorite other singers, tony iommi is my favorite guitarist, i sing like ian gillan in my band because i can do the vocal belting and falsetto's like he can and now i know what he feels when he has sores on his sores in his throat
Got both versions of the album (Gillan's Inn; Gillan's Inn Tour Edition) and while some say the new versions are not superior in any way to the old, I disagree: "Unchain Your Brain," "Bluesy Blues Sea," "Men of War" and "Demon's Eye" equal or surpass the originals.
Ian Gillian and Paul Rodgers - fucking cant be touched.
Wish Gillian made another album with Sabbath. The "Born Again" album is the most underrated album in metal. Have a smoke and listen to "Disturbing The Priest"......
he probably sound good on "back in black"....now that would be a great concept..original backing tracks of famous bands..with new fresh vocals by guest vocalists-how cool would that be!
Someone can tell me the name of the music Ian Gillan sing in the first 10 seconds of the video?

@Rosenthalist It's "Bluesy Blue Sea" - Gillan's Inn Version

Gillan is a father of so much more than metal. Love the work on Superstar.
Tough life, survivor. One of the classics in my mind.
He might have to battle with Robert Plant and the devil for the baddest voice in rock. But we will all be dead when that duel happens!
chaosIsTheOnlyPower 1 year ago
I know Ritchie would never, EVER do this, but imagine if...
Jon Lord rejoined, pushing Don Airey to primarily PIANO duties.
Ritchie Blackmore joined and the band had a two guitar attack.
That'd be fuckin' intense. I still wanna see a Mark 4 reunion, I never got a chance to see Lord or Ritchie.

I love Ian and Ritchie. I wish they would stop the hate and rejoin eachother. it would be epic. btw, what is the song hes singing at the beginning?

Ritchie left Deep Purple at the height of their climb to fame to form RAINBOW. Definately something went down between Ritchie and Deep Purple.
