so damn true, I was working at autozone and continuously had to take the plugs out of my ears (16mm sockets) because they stated it was unprofessional. Let's use some fucking logic here for a second. In the automotive industry, it is quite popular for mechanics and local shop owners to have tatts and or piercings. So what was the big deal? I was hired strictly on my automotive knowledge was superior to over half of the management and schooled all of the regular employee's at that location.

@JusSkott Yet, my tatts and piercings, some how made me unable to identify the customers vehicle related issues, obtain the parts for the vehicles, enter in warranties, put away the hard parts every Thursday and ring customers up. But the top engine builders in that area use to wait till I was working to deal with me directly on the phone or come in only when I was working. Only thing I can think is, tatts and piercings from their point of views makes you have the dumb. SMDH!

I know it sucks about piercings in fast food but it is health and safety,in my time i have secure piercing but you never know they can fall and maybe someone chokes on it?sometimes you gotta think in those scenarios.Having Tattoos people are looked upon as unhygienic filthy,well a majority of people who have ink arethe most hygenic otherwise theyd let there tattoos piercings get infection...

I work in healthcare I have tats. they don't care that I have tats, but I have to keep them covered.

some people link tats to trouble makers.

For example a 90yr old grandmother & a 20yr old guy coming in to her room wearing black scrubs w/ sleeves tattooed on both arms & 00ga rings in his ears. how do you think she might feel receiving care from him?

I'm all for self expression, I have two tats & 4ga plugs in my ears, some patients & families do at first get stand offish.

My mom is one of those idiots -.- yet she has a tattoo and is about to get another one AND her nose is pierced and also has a bunch of ear piercings even though she only wears one lobe and she gets paid a lot. My dad has tattoos and stretched ears (00g) and gets paid even MORE than my mom. I wish people would get over them selves. The only thing I can say from the other point of view is for food related jobs. Piercings can be a health hazard since they can fall out into the food. That is the only one that has any sense. Other than that, I totally agree and think it is bullshit as someone with piercings and wants tattoos in the future. =)

Well Luckily I work at a call center so they dont care... but I have been trying to find a job in a vet office so when I got to interviews I take out the piercings and cover my tattoos... otherwise I know I would get no call backs. My arms are covered almost so most of my coworkers were shocked when they saw them... I have had people say I helped them change there mind about people with tattoos

I HATE THAT!?!?! I'm 15 and I can't find a job where I can't wear my normal plugs and a nose ring. I dont get it!! All the jobs people say that it looks offensive, or it gives the wrong impression. I consider myself lucky because at my job not only is my boss okay with my 1/2" earlobes and other various piercings, she is constantly saying how much she loves me blue&green hair, and even gave me a raise because I attract so much business.

But I do get sooo pissed off when people try to make me feel like I'm somehow less of a person simply because I don't look how they think I should. >.<

I agree. employees with tatoos and piercings would make customers with tatoos and piercings feel more at home. They would also know the company does not discriminate against people like them, because the world has changed a lot. Even wealthy and elite people are getting tatoos. I come from a good neighborhood. It doesn't look like One Tree Hill. Everyone does their own thing and I think the bishop's wife has tats. Yep, fairly sure she is a respected person in the community.

i once went to a place to ask if they were hiring and i had my snake bites still in and the lady i asked almost had an aneurysm when she turned and saw them!!! she proceeded to turn up her nose like she smelt something bad and tell me they don't hire people with "things" in their faces... i had to count to 10 before i answered her... i later took them out and went by a month later to drop off my resume and the same woman (think she forgot about me) took the papers without even a second glance..

i agree.. i have a big tattoo on my wrist, but i didn't have any problems with it, but some of my friends got rejected from jobs cause they have tattoo's on their arms or something. i think that you'd rather be yourself with your tatoos, than pretend to be someone else while hiding your tattoos cause they can't show when your working. it's stupid, i see lots of people with tattoos.. and they shouldn't judge about something little as a piercing or a tattoo

I agree with you but I also have tattoo's .I got my last tattoo in 1990 and I can tell you that they are definitely more accepted now than at that time. I'm sure that tattoo's ,piercings and gay rights will all be fully accepted at some time in the future, I just don't know if we will be here to see it. I agree 100%. I work at a fucking DQ and the manager (Who happens to be my friend's mom) Is a fucking piercing nazi. She tried saying "Well, we gotta look professional"but I told her "We work in a DQ in the middle of a ghetto. We get people stoned off their asses, drunk off their asses, and just plain rude people. I don't think piercings will make us look any worse than the trash you let in here." I got 3 piercings over the winter, so I'm wondering what she'll say when they re-open next week.
