Yeah crazy is right. These guys have a terrible reputation with their mutual aid departments, and are constantly getting into trouble with the county. i know from anonomous source that works in the state.

There is no "best dept" in the world, we are all the same and we are all here to do the same job. My dept gets nothing but shit calls "Auto Alarms, minor mvc's" etc.... but my dept is damn solid. Regardless of whether we're talking about full-time engine-washers or volunteer hose-folders, the fact remains that most firefighters just weren't smart enough to become police officers. And, considering that it only takes a GED and an I.Q. of 86 to become a police officer, this is really saying something.

@mcconnellch To be fair, it's very probable that there are some competent firefighters out there. In my experience, however, firefighters struggle to perform simple tasks like taking accurate blood pressure readings, filling out basic paperwork, starting I.V. lines without pricking the patient 500 times, or being able to read a cardiac monitor with any degree of precision. The firefighters with whom I've come in contact are much more comfortable folding hoses, washing fire trucks, and cooking.

@DartmouthAlum96 Well doc. I'm sure there's NEVER been a malpractice suit against a hospital, or even one piece of equipment left in a person after surgery. Not even a patient being thankful because a nurse caught a doctor's mistake who was about to mix drugs in an i.v. that would have killed the patient. If you were to be on a fire scene you would see these men and women perform their duties with expert precision.
@mcconnellch As much as I'd like to disagree with you, I must admit that you're right about a couple of things. First, doctors do make a lot of mistakes. Second, I'm not an expert on firefighters around the country and if I offended any who are doing great work, then I apologize wholeheartedly. With that being said, the firefighters with whom I've worked here in Long Beach, CA leave a lot to be desired. LBFD has a couple of pros, but for the most part, the dept. does mediocre work at best.

It is almost embarrassing as it is dangerous to have these substandard FF's and Officers on a scene, we do hope to either "coach" them or give em the boot. I am unfamiliar with LBFD so I can't comment but I hope for you, the rest of E.R. staff, and ultimately the care of the patient, they learn a better attention to detail. Thank you again. Agree fully with firedude87. So much of what is being glorified in theis video is what gets FF's (as well as people not paying attention at intersections) killed. Even simple stuff like the shot inside the engine where the crew is not seatbelted. A known FF killer. Sad to see it but its why so many Volunteer depts. have a bad rap. Because they've earned it. II know we do not do this job for the awards but someone in this video has more awards than probably 99% of the people posting on here! Including I believe a 2011 medal of valor recipient for pulling out a downed firefighter. When your department learns the basics, ie, PPE, Safe driving, and all the other items that go along with the fire service THEN you can be proud of what you do. Just a little history for the paid boys that think theyre better than the volunteers. The first volunteer fire dept. in North America came in existance in 1746. Founded by none other than Ben Franklin. first paid carear, 1866. Doing the job longer boys. plus we work other jobs, then go home and make runs every day. you guys only make runs 10 days out of the month.

i think it's funny all the guys that bust volunteer are the guys that just decided it would be a cool idea to be a firefighter. But the guys that come from volunteer departments and moved on from there know what you have to deal with when you volunteer such as a limited budget, limited man power and out dated equipment.

Everyone who follows the fire service has heard of a long set of problems with this company, Kentland 33 is know around the country for driving too fast, poor fire operations, poor personnel standards and a host of other issues related to leadership. Unless you are related to someone, or know people in high places, you will be on a list, and go no further. As far as a "jolly volly" we have to train and attend classes like a paid department, but we do not receive one dime for our time!

I think we have lost sight of the main topic. We can all agree that what we do is one of the most dangerous tasks anyone can perform. While Kentland 33 is, and I have done my research, an example of a well organized and proficient all volunteer department. There are those departments that tarnish, in their actions, what we have chosen both as volunteers and paid staff to do. This video, while noble in its intent, was intended to reflect the “HARDCORE” side of firefighting.
I don’t charge into any fire, as I don’t want to injury, or worse kill a member of my crew. Fire attack is something that I want to make a calculated decision on, ensuring the safety of my fire crew, above all else. I hope that no one reading this will carry the burden of informing a family that their loved one will not be coming home. We all do this because we want to, but don’t glorify it to a younger generation. Remember this, If not I, than whom. Keep you heads down and your crews safe.

Well for all the safety gurus that are crying that the driver isnt wearing proper ppe get over it, its a god dam pump panel who gives a shit what your wearing. These guys would run circles around ANY of you, and these as you paid guys call them "vollys" id bet to say get out faster and more staffed than you "paid" guys. The people that are recording in the engine are ride alongs that cant do anything on the fireground they are there specifically to take pics and video. I am PROUDLY from MD!!!

And, considering that it only takes a GED and an I.Q. of 86 to become a police officer, this is really saying something.

@mcconnellch To be fair, it's very probable that there are some competent firefighters out there. In my experience, however, firefighters struggle to perform simple tasks like taking accurate blood pressure readings, filling out basic paperwork, starting I.V. lines without pricking the patient 500 times, or being able to read a cardiac monitor with any degree of precision. The firefighters with whom I've come in contact are much more comfortable folding hoses, washing fire trucks, and cooking.

@DartmouthAlum96 Well doc. I'm sure there's NEVER been a malpractice suit against a hospital, or even one piece of equipment left in a person after surgery. Not even a patient being thankful because a nurse caught a doctor's mistake who was about to mix drugs in an i.v. that would have killed the patient. If you were to be on a fire scene you would see these men and women perform their duties with expert precision.

@mcconnellch As much as I'd like to disagree with you, I must admit that you're right about a couple of things. First, doctors do make a lot of mistakes. Second, I'm not an expert on firefighters around the country and if I offended any who are doing great work, then I apologize wholeheartedly. With that being said, the firefighters with whom I've worked here in Long Beach, CA leave a lot to be desired. LBFD has a couple of pros, but for the most part, the dept. does mediocre work at best.

It is almost embarrassing as it is dangerous to have these substandard FF's and Officers on a scene, we do hope to either "coach" them or give em the boot. I am unfamiliar with LBFD so I can't comment but I hope for you, the rest of E.R. staff, and ultimately the care of the patient, they learn a better attention to detail. Thank you again. People who run in when everyone else runs out. They save you, your family, and friends. Your worst nightmare is just another day at the officer for them. My point is, regardless of your opinion of their intellegence, they've earned respect.

Agree fully with firedude87. So much of what is being glorified in theis video is what gets FF's (as well as people not paying attention at intersections) killed. Even simple stuff like the shot inside the engine where the crew is not seatbelted. A known FF killer. Sad to see it but its why so many Volunteer depts. have a bad rap. Because they've earned it. If a guy from my house put up a video like this I would be embarrassed. Plus there would be a several write ups and suspensions. SRRY!

II know we do not do this job for the awards but someone in this video has more awards than probably 99% of the people posting on here! Including I believe a 2011 medal of valor recipient for pulling out a downed firefighter. Oh forgot to mention that downed firefighter was PAID, if i was career PGFD I would be extremely thankful that volunteer was there!
And for the shirt comment yeah no shirt is wrong, but PPE? I don't see many people at pump panels in full PPE with SCBA!

Just a little history for the paid boys that think theyre better than the volunteers. The first volunteer fire dept. in North America came in existance in 1746. Founded by none other than Ben Franklin. first paid carear, 1866. Doing the job longer boys. plus we work other jobs, then go home and make runs every day. you guys only make runs 10 days out of the month.

Everyone who follows the fire service has heard of a long set of problems with this company, Kentland 33 is know around the country for driving too fast, poor fire operations, poor personnel standards and a host of other issues related to leadership. I'm proud to be a voulenteer firefighter what makes paid people so much better than us? We take all of our training through LSU. I love what I do every second of it.

@tcat2884 How can you join a "real department" in NJ, you need to test, and get on a "list". Unless you are related to someone, or know people in high places, you will be on a list, and go no further. As far as a "jolly volly" we have to train and attend classes like a paid department, but we do not receive one dime for our time!

@tcat2884 you sure do talk a big game...but the reality is that both volunteer and paid departments are an extremely important existence. But these guys are from prince Georges county.. they are probably one of the busiest volunteer departments in the country and are busier than a lot of paid departments. Point is... they probably see more fire than you tcat2884.

I think we have lost sight of the main topic. We can all agree that what we do is one of the most dangerous tasks anyone can perform. While Kentland 33 is, and I have done my research, an example of a well organized and proficient all volunteer department. There are those departments that tarnish, in their actions, what we have chosen both as volunteers and paid staff to do. This video, while noble in its intent, was intended to reflect the “HARDCORE” side of firefighting.

I don’t charge into any fire, as I don’t want to injury, or worse kill a member of my crew. Fire attack is something that I want to make a calculated decision on, ensuring the safety of my fire crew, above all else. I hope that no one reading this will carry the burden of informing a family that their loved one will not be coming home. We all do this because we want to, but don’t glorify it to a younger generation. Remember this, If not I, than whom. Keep you heads down and your crews safe.

@winksta07 oh ok, there are alot of people who dont know....and as to your comment....it has been said.....alot...... but i gurantee that not one person on here can say they donned the full ppe that he NFPA/OSHA requires at every scene.

@winksta07 (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment, i.e. your bunkers, gloves, and idiot bucket (helmet). Because, as a tax payer so eloquently stated during a station tour, anyone stupid enough to do what we do has to be damaged in some way.

Ok, I'm a volunteer who runs along with an all paid dept in a lot of our fire area. Most of the time paid guys are more efficient, and better equipped. But several times I've made an interior attack and come out to see career guys ready to relieve me. We do training burns and extrication classes with these guys. I don't understand the high horse SOME of you career guys are on. It's not like y'all are supermen. We're all the same. And they may get there 2 mins sooner at 3 in the morning, but whe
