Everything he said was otherwise correct, except for that the coriolis effect can be observed 20 meters minimum distance from the equator, and that you can observe this effect using a container. I am not sure if he's correct about the way the vines coil.
please ask a physics teacher what coriolis-effect is (NOT a real force, it is an apparent force where something moving in a straight line appears to be moving in a curve, from a rotational point of view)
It's an apparent acceleration effect if the object is free to continue in an inertial straight line, like a flying projectile.
If the object is constrained to follow a straight line on the rotating surface (like a car on a drag strip) the rotating body has to exert a force to "keep" it against the Coriolis acceleration, in which case the object does see a force.
In short, whether it manifests as an acceleration effect or a force depends on how the object is constrained.
This is a totally phony demonstration. The direction of draining depends on the shape of the vessel and the way it is filled NOT the Coriolis effect. It's just an amusing demonstration for tourists.
@sonnyzum Here the direction is purely controlled by the guide who is pulls out the plug and takes out and puts in the leaves. It's particularly when taking out and putting in the leaves that they affect the flow.
A demonstration, which they want people to think is real, and which many tourists fall for.

Coriolis does not work at such a small level
It actually has to do with the TOILET JET STREAM DIRECTIONS

@xsupernazix I do believe there is NO toilets in the video.

@sonnyzum, you are a retard - the coriolis effect is clearly demonstrated on either side of the equator - it makes perfect sense

hmmmmmmm interesting @ indigostudio i never knew that. Thanks

When the woman asks whether the vertical line is the Greenwich Meridian, caught me out for a second, lol stupid.
Though they are Africa, but east Africa.

I want a certificate verifying that i crossed the equator and saw the Coriolis effect in both hemispheres... only 200 shillings, jealous....

i think this can help on how to counter attack those swirly strong wind with devastating out come.

@perfectdonk, my geography textbook calls it a force.

It is a real force, I have a Physics degree.

@petertr2000 It IS a real force, but this video is fake.

That doesn't work. The coriolis force doesn't effect your toilet, nor your water tap.
SuperHurra 3 years ago 14
@SuperHurra
Toilets are forced to go in opposite direction so they stay clean longer,
and as far as your tap, try filling up the sink then let it drain.

actually you only have part of it, it also depends on the Rossby Number
