I would consider gas colic! Or gas pain. I've seen this before with a horse I was having vetted who exploded while we were vetting her. And Sting released a lot of gas early on when he exploded in-hand with you. I know that the activity can cause gas but I do believe that sometimes gas pain can be the cause of activity. Just something to consider anyhoo...
You pulled him (with an opening outside rein) to the wall, he then was worried about what was there and really over reacted to that outside hand the next time it 'gripped'.
