Thanks 4 posting words to this amazing Ulali song, long time fave of mine. And Clockle's post's right, unfortunately, your translation's off. Jen (1 of the founding members) gave the same interpretation that Clockle did (performance in '02 @ the Univ of WA). It's a video on YouTube titled "Ulali in Performance" posted by preAmerikkkan.
Is it possible to edit your video so the education potential of it's complete? Thanks again!
The CD that this came from, Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble, was great. I have always loved this song. I think I'll pull this out and listen to it again.
I don't think that translation is correct. Native american languages had your average subject-verb-object structure and word-for-word translations could usually be made.
Your english verse has 7 lines and the lyrics have 6. Plus "mahk jchi tahm/taum" are repeated in the first two lines, but there's no repetition in the first two lines of the english verison.
What gives? Will we ever have a coherent translation?
clockie your translation must be right because I only read the lyrics on the liner notes on Robbies album and was like thats not how i feel when I listen to this song...your translation is what I feel...thank you...
Thank you so much for this! I have never been able to get the chant down... it's so intricate and the words so fast and different. Now, I can learn this beautiful chant!
Clockle - thank you for posting the accurate translation. Beautiful piece of music and message

Actually thats the wrong translation...this is the correct one in the Tutelo-saponi language:
Our hearts are full and our minds are good
Our ancestors come and give us strength
Stand tall, sing, dance and never forget who you are
or where you come from
