that was great debut, even if it was a squash match. He had two or three good spots with the suplexes, but overall goldberg didn't stand a chance against cm punk
This is one of the most incredible matches in recent history, really. It's nice to see ACTUAL wrestling and martial arts skill in even scripted fights these days.
@not2shabby you know the "martial arts" thing was a gimmick. cm punk doesn't really know all that muck martial arts. he's really more of a mat-technic/semi-highflyer
Isn't it crazy to see how his style has changed. Everything he did in this match was the kind of thing you would have seen on a consistant basis. He does maybe 20% of it still. Moving onward and upward, and taking on the moves to match.
I'd say he's this generations Stone Cold, which is quite something considering their gimmicks are 180 degrees from eachother.
Cm punk is cool, but what about the opponents. they lose mainly bcs thy're told & scripted to lose. There's no great hero without a great villian. I'll also root 4 the underdog Justin credible
Yeah, ECW fans in the 90's were smart. they knew about other organizations.. internationally and independently. those of us who are WRESTLING fans, not just WWE fans, knew who Punk was years before he ever even appeared on national TV.
@Darazz He had established his name in Ring of Honor which is always in NYC and northeast. We knew who he was already and that he was one of the best.
@CrazyBenoit2000000 yes i know ROH TNA and more but look to his titantron he have a some clip whit CW Anderson and the match whit CW is next week Until this map whit J.Credible
@eresos77 The sound quality on this video is pretty bad, but as I recall from the original airing (which between this and Show/Batista, was fairly memorable), it was an ROH chant.
risky business debuting CM Punk in a strong 'real' ecw crowd. but heck they probs loved him since he was a paul heyman guy. or an indy guy. yeah buddy.
And actually, I really don't care anymore, Cm Punk will never be as big as Austin or the Rock, or Mick Foley for that matter. The WWE hasn't been the same since they left.
"Been the best ever since day one, when I walked in to this company. And I've been villified and hated since that day, because... PAUL HEYMAN, saw something in me, that nobody else... wanted to admit... Yeah that's right I'm a Paul Heyman guy!"
@WillFoSkill i know man, just saying that it appears that John Cena gets the upper hand in WWE a whole lot. Ever since mid/late 04/ early 05 he has been put on the heavy spotlight repeatedly.
@eatmydust2003 also if you dont want to count house shows as his debut...HIS DEBUT ON TV WOULD HAVE BEEN THE PROMO HE CUT...again you fucking fail
and again so you know your facts correctly...this was his FIRST TELEVISED MATCH FOR THE ECW SHOW..but not his debut in the wwe, not his debut on this show either...so fuck off
Try out matches really do not count as "debuts" because he was not yet with the company, he didn't get signed until after that match - colt cabana had been in five or six of those "try outs" before getting signed, as did Colin Delaney. At WM22 he was actually signed with the company, thus making it a "debut".
Otherwise you'd have to count countless other try-out matches as "debuts" for people who never showed up ever again, nevermind all the darkmatches against locals.
Thats where we differ. Under the definition of DEBUT. First public appearance,First appearance of something as a new product(Him on WWE TV), To Appear for the first time....HE DID ALL OF THIS on this day...
Depends on how you look at it. If you wish to go with what you believe than you are right, I am going to stick with mine under the definition of the word...plus its a lot different between him and some guy that never wrestled for the company again.
They should of kept ECW like this, and then kept it at this venue for all events. That is if they wanted ECW to be their separate brand. Damn they fucked up. Plus this ECW could of been TV-14 while the other shows SD and RAW were still PG doing there own thing. The only time any ECW superstar would be seen with SD or RAW was on PPV's.
@lilshady235 sluggish? how is he sluggish? his skills keep improving every day! and yeah he is trying to be different so the wwe can be awesome again!
Do you guys think it was possible that Punk was suppose to debut as a heel, until this majorly positive response? I mean, he was facing an ECW Original on his debut and back then 90% of their few ECW Originals were Face.
He sorta seems heel-like due to his smarmy grins and his ignorant (to fans) entrance, just kinda barging through them a bit. I could be wrong, though.
@iannyrockwell I know what it is I was just pointing out that the crowd was about to shout overated, then punk hit the shining wizard and they soon shut up :)
